I think that this notice will make hapy many ones: Ubisoft and the BlueByte are making a remake of Settlers 2 :Brain:
Here you have the news, and look at those screenz: http://diesiedler2.de.ubi.com/sshots/sshot02.jpg http://diesiedler2.de.ubi.com/sshots/sshot01.jpg :monkey_dance: |
That is good news, but, I thought that BlueByte went the way of the Dodo.
|
I heard of it some while before. I think it's great, but they shouldn't "improve" the gameplay too much. Just tune the interface a bit, make it more user-friendly, and make some neat graphics, that's it. I want it to be as much Settlers 2 as possible.
|
Worst news I heard in a while. Seems obvious for me that they want to overshadow the real Settlers 2 from the new gamers so they don't see that 2D is better than 3D in this kind of game... By making even more money from it.
When will the game companies realise that taking a 2D game to the 3D age is creating a whole new game in itself? I am yet to see such a game even go near the appeal of their predecessors... :not_ok: |
I'll give this a chance for the simple reason that the 'old' gameplay was much more fun and specific then the 'new' gameplay.
It'll never overshadow Settlers II for me, for the massive emotional value that game has to me, but I don't want to deny newer generations acces to the same that I had acces to, even if it's put in a jacket they all accept but I disagree with :) |
A remake? So what does that make S3 and S4?
|
3D actually works better for this series, no more trying to find Settlers stuck under trees.
And despite what anyone thinks, I still think 3 and 4 are the best. |

Anyway, i hope that game will come out translated in italian: I'll buy it for sure :ok: |
Yep it is great news indeed. Who cares if its 3D!! It's a bloody S2 game!! I see paths therefore it must be good :P

In S2 I would keep trying to find Settlers stuck under dense forestation, or perhaps those annoying times when you have a huge cities and they stand behind buildings for no good reason! That was so annoying! Half my population was trying to avoid my eye by hiding behind some idiotic place. Now I guess you can zoom and rotate the camera so it won't be a problem. I just hope they retain that funky path and arrow system. And the roads, can't live without the roads! |
hmm... Looks interesting, S2 really was the greatest game in the series. I tried the demos of the later ones, and they really messed up the gameplay in them. If they manage to bring back the great gameplay that was in S2, I might actually buy it when it comes out.
Weird, I've never experienced that any of my settlers got stuck in S2. |
Only the ships :P

Wow, and settlers actually have different hair colors now :P |

sooo whats the point =P |
Yeah, stuck behind the tree or not, he'll do his job...

Lots of gamers today can't stand "cheap" 2D-Games. The game will sell much better if it has nifty 3D-graphics. |

Will buy this 3D-version though, sometimes I just need my dose of good 3D ;) And of course for the fixes they hopefully built in. |
That sounds very good, the very best in S2 was the transport system. In S3 and S4 I never got it to work like in S2.

The point is that we'll be able to zoom to the settlers face and look at their expressions... that's just what the original S2 was missing! |
jesus... <_<
anywayz, i dont realy think that they will have some great expressions |

Well the demo is out... anyone played?
I had a shot tonight and it's pretty zany! Good to see they used the same cursor.... |
Too bad that my PC is too poor to handle that game :wallbash: :wallbash:
As soon as I can, I'll buy a new one and I'll buy that game, too! ;) |
Listen it's the year 2006, if it didn't have 3D it would be a travesty and it would give me 50% less reason to buy a REMAKE, because what's the point of buying something that plays and looks exactly the same with only a few extras? One reason I bought Pirates! the remake was because I wanted to explore the world now that it was far more vibrant and interesting, rather I wouldn't want to stare at those hideous pixelated fat little blobs the settlers used to be.
It'd be a lazy and inexcusable way to remake Settlers if they didn't use new graphics. Besides, who would buy anything that looks like it's from 1995? Almost nobody that's who, and especially for the fans, who've probably played Settlers II to death. If they don't get brand new sexy visuals then they'll most likely get bored of it even faster. And yes, graphics can make it different and interesting, that's why I wasn't completely bored with Half-Life 2 or Doom 3. |
The graphics don't really work against gameplay, and it looks good. I don't mind, even though I certainly don't see 3D graphics as a plus in many games.
Anyway, the Settlers are cuter then ever. Seriously, this game is hideously sweet. Fell in love with the Settlers all over again :D Negative: Too many bambies in this game. Need to build more hunters :P Oh, and a note to self: No longer does a forester supply two woodcutters and thus two sawmills. I´m too much stuck in the Settlers II routine. |
bloody hell it looks like Black and White 2 ... but without the creature :)
Ive got the old settlers 2, its an unforgettable game... is it french by origin? |
German, I think. The original is called "Die Sedlers" or something like that unless I'm mistaken.
|
Die Siedler

Hey,
I know this post is ooooold but we have a Remake. (-; You can find it here: www.rttr.info It is an open source multiplayer "addon" for the original game - so you need the "settlers II - gold edition" to play. We aren't allowed to share the graphics but you may find them somewhere (-; And you may find us in the IRC server: irc.freenode.net channel: #siedler2.5 Greetz Riagan |
