I'm so sad I'm going to cry.
Whenever I try to play SS2 it crashes when I attempt to start a new game.
It was fine on my previous PC, but that was a Windows 2000, my current is a XP.
Is System Shock 2 incompatible with XP? Or might it be some other problem?

SS2 works fine with my computer and I have XP. I'm running the version I got off HOTU btw.

Blood-Pigggy 22-08-2005 10:01 PM

Wait, the Full CD-rom they updated it with or the old CD-rip?
I have the original version on a disc I bought.

I'll have to try and install it again.

System Shock 2 works on my Win XP machine. I got it from HOTU, and I thought they gave the full cd version.

As long as you keep the DixX \ Div Codex files and the game files in the same folder, it should work.

System Shock 1 was MURDER to get it to work on Win XP, but it was worth it.

:ok:

I got the original to work first try, but without sound.

I'll have to reinstall System Shock 2 and see if it works alright.
Last time I think a file was corrupted.
I'm not sure but it's still weirding me out.

I've never got it to work on mine - there's a thread about it somewhere I think - despite trying various fixes etc - it seems to be incompatible with some XP versions.

Well, my is running without problems at all, and I have XP Home Edition. Tried that with compatibility modes yet?

Gamefreak 23-08-2005 11:47 AM

Also (no editing for guest) my HD's file system is Fat32, not NTFS, to be compatible with Windows 98 on other partition. That might also be the reason why System Shock 2 runs well on my PC.

Blood-Pigggy 23-08-2005 02:53 PM

Holy crapcakes that might be it.
Last time I checked I have NTFS.
Fat32 is usually much more compatible with older games.
Gah!

Mmm, Nevermind.
I put it in compatibility for Win98, it got to the loading screen, then froze when it entered the game.
When I put in compat. for Win2000 it worked perfectly.
Strange.
