Alternate Reality - The City

Hey guys, Im lookin for an old game called Alternate Reality - The City, and it's for the C64, but is there a DOS version? If not i'll just have to bust out my C64. I'm lookin for download links for either of em. Anyone able to help?

A. J. Raffles 11-07-2005 02:59 PM

HOTU appears to have the C64 version, if that's any help to you.

Borodin 11-07-2005 03:16 PM

The game's author, Phillip Price, maintained a website until recently. I know he okayed the DOS version for download, and I believe it's available through several sites.

I remember having DOS version on one of my classic game compilations. So if it's abandoned - I can supply.

A. J. Raffles 11-07-2005 04:01 PM

According to The List it's abandonware.

MrBackAlleySka 11-07-2005 06:38 PM

Sweet, glad to hear it's abandoned. I'll search for a download site myself, but if anyone knows any, go ahead and post it here in case anyone else that's idly reading this thread wishes to have it :D

Sir! Yes! Sir!

:borg: Upload commencing tomorrow, ETA: 24 hours and counting.

The Fifth Horseman 14-07-2005 02:03 PM

Up on the server.

bjbrains2002 14-07-2005 10:22 PM

Actually alternate Reality belongs on reloaded because it is freeware horseman.

The Fifth Horseman 15-07-2005 11:15 AM

List says its abandonware. Argue with the list.

PrejudiceSucks 15-07-2005 03:18 PM

What does this game entail?

Is it an RPG/Strategy/Shooter?

The Fifth Horseman 15-07-2005 03:38 PM

FPP RPG.

MrBackAlleySka 15-07-2005 10:39 PM

Hehe, it's a wonderful game. I hope something good comes of this *cough loading it here cough*

The list is wrong because if the author said it was okay to download it then it counts as freeware.

You certianly enjoy telling people they are wrong don't you? :D That's the second time you've corrected the big brains behind this site about what's abandonware and whats freeware.

Naughty.

The Fifth Horseman 18-07-2005 12:24 PM

MrBackAlleySka, you can contact Kosta to review the game at any point now. Hope you enjoy it.

MrBackAlleySka 18-07-2005 12:45 PM

I'll try my hardest! Im busy, but im certian i'll be able to get around to reviewing it. Heh, this'll be my second review. Also did a review fort Crescent Hawks Revengs, but I havent seen that uploaded for a while. ^_^ No worries though!

The Fifth Horseman 18-07-2005 12:56 PM

CHR probably didn't get through because of the ESA lockdown. Ask Kosta about this.

BTW, I saw your review on the server a while back and had a read. Good job.

MrBackAlleySka 18-07-2005 01:40 PM

Hehe thanks. I figured ESA may have given it the boot. But it's alright heh. Reviewing games is a free enterprise. Costs nothing to do them, make them, or lose them!

Hello!

I'm the admin of The Original Alternate Reality Homepage and creator of the Alternate Reality FAQ and I have been in contact with Philip Price a few times over the years.

Neither The City or The Dungeon is abandonware or public domain, but they are free to download and distribute. Philip Price's official stance is (quote) "do what you have to do ;)" (end quote).

If you want, I could write a review for the PC version of The City (which incidentally is absolutely the worst version of the game, because it actually contains emulated code of the Atari ST port since the coder for the PC version couldn't figure out how the game worked).

EDIT:

Oops, I just saw this:

By submitting reviews, these reviews become the property of Abanondia.com and you can no longer claim title to them
Sorry, but then I will have to retract my offer.

MrBackAlleySka 19-07-2005 12:58 PM

Well. Seems we've been given the ol duct tape to the mouth. Oh well *smile* :kosta: Thanks for the headsup Eobert. I still havent gotten my hands on a working PC version, Eobert, mayhaps you could supply a link to me, and any others that wish for this game?

You know, all this phrase really means is that you in effect give Abandonia a permament non-cancellable permission to use your review on the site. Not that you lose the right to give permissions for its usage to other sites. I asked Kosta about it a while ago.

AFAIK, that's exactly what falls under "public domain" specification, no matter how you call it.

eobet 20-07-2005 01:26 PM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_domain

Philip Price holds all the copyrights in regard to Alternate Reality.

But he may have changed his mind. As the site is no longer around, that bears some thought.

Note: Alternate Reality was designed and coded by Phillip Price, who has given approval for redistribution of this game.
Here we are to quote off HOTU, so Im guessing we can have it, regardless of what anyone says. If the MAKER of the game says it's good, then it's good. :ok:

Yep.

That is just a statement we've made saying that once you submit a review to us, we can use it (even if you decide to leave the site). We've gotten a lot of people quitting and saying "I'm leaving, remove my reviews". In these cases, we see if we can find someone else who is willing to re-review the game, but if no-one is willing, we stick with the old one.

You still have full credit for the review (which is why we state who reviewed it), and you can also use it on other sites and in other ways as you see fit. :ok:

The Fifth Horseman 07-07-2009 08:12 AM

It's been four years.

Is anyone up for reviewing this thing? Pretty pretty please with sugar on top?
