Zombie Wars

I remembered this oldie when cleaning up the pinned "what oldies would you want to see" thread. Out of curiosity, I went to check, and this is how the facts present:

1. HOTU used to have it for download before it went under (yes, I KNOW...)
2. I could not find any online store that still sells it.
3. Alien Carnage & Zombie Wars copyrights belong to the author, John Passfield. Proof 1 Proof 2 (altough Apogee still offers the AC/HH shareware version for download)
4. Gee Whiz = defunct (though some of their former crew have supposedly set up a new company)
5. ESA or its members do not seem to have anything to do with what was left of Gee Whiz.
6. Altough the full game occupied an entire CD, there also exists a ripped version that is approximately 6 megabytes large.

So, the following points of the site policy on additions seem to be fulfilled:

1. No-one is selling the game: The game is not sold anymore.
2. No-one is supporting the game: The game is not supported.
3. No-one will get mad at us for placing the software up for download. Copyright holder is defunct, and ESA is not protecting the game.

Sounds like it would be a highly possible (and very good) addition to the site, but before I take any action to that extent, I'm asking you to try and prove me wrong.

Well, if ESA isn't protecting it and no one is selling or supporting it, then I say add it. The worst that can happen is that they'll ask us to take it down, and hopefully enough people would've DLed it by then, LOL.

Now, anybody got a copy of the game?

the worst thing that can happen is they file a law suit against site owners, send them to jail and shutdown this site.

Does it work in Dos-Box?

LordHogFred 01-04-2006 11:21 PM

I think I have a genuine copy of Zombie Wars lying about somewhere.
Am I right in thinking it's the sequel to Halloween Harry (Alien Carnage)?

thatmexicanguy 01-04-2006 11:51 PM

You are correct, sir. It is the sequel.

LordHogFred 01-04-2006 11:56 PM

Ah well it that case I definately do have a copy of it somewhere, will have to start hunting through my gargantuous collection of games LOL

thatmexicanguy 02-04-2006 12:57 AM

Good luck with that. I think we'd all enjoy playing it.

_r.u.s.s. 02-04-2006 07:40 AM

helo-o i have it

SirPeter 02-04-2006 10:34 PM

O man that would be great. But then ofcourse the non-ripped version, never played that version before :D

The Fifth Horseman 03-04-2006 10:17 AM

I do have a copy, BUT I'm asking for confirmation of my info.

Jimmy Bojangles 04-04-2006 04:45 PM

I took a look around, and I honestly can't find anyone selling it. I think it'd be a safe bet that we wouldn't get owned for putting it on the site.

moljac 06-04-2006 09:11 AM

What about Halloween Harry ?

The Fifth Horseman 06-04-2006 11:58 AM

The status of Alien Carnage (and therefore also Halloween Harry, since both names refer to the same product) is currently unclear.
See this thread for some info on the subject.

Anyone willing to review it?
Take note the game only works on Windows 9x... it won't run on any of the NT-based ones, including XP.

EDIT: There are references to it being runnable on Windows 3.x - true or just an urban legend? Needs checking.

The Fifth Horseman 11-08-2009 06:23 AM

Note for the future: the demo version includes a level not appearing in the full game.
Thus, we should find a copy of the demo to add under Extras.

EDIT: Despite my best efforts - demo not found.
However, I found a FULL cd version with the intro and outro videos - it's runnable without the CD after installation, and can be copied around however you like. :D Coming to ISO Cellar and Abandonia's FTP soon.

The Fifth Horseman 12-08-2009 06:14 AM

Myself to review.
