Holly is seven years old and she is from Nevada, USA. She is my friend's niece and she is doing a project for school involving helping Flat Stanley to see the world. The idea is to take Stanley somewhere, take a photo and also write something about where he went.

For example, I'll take the Flat Stanley's drawing (see picture bellow), just as a friend of mine asked me to do, to a coffee bar in Zagreb. I will place Flat Stanley next to me, order my capuccino and have someone take a picture of the two of us. Cigarettes on the picture are out of question :smoke:

I'll do this in Zagreb, can you do it wherever you are? And then post your picture here!

There's plenty of time. Holly has a presentation in early May.

Do you remeber a dwarf from French movie Amelie?

:tnx:

Ines 06-03-2006 08:07 PM

Stanley's drawing is coming in a moment!!

Danny252 06-03-2006 08:08 PM

Oh, nevermind..
Damn posting between reading and actual posting!

Anywho.. so, print out stanley, place him next to me, take photo, say where I/we are, and.. uh.. put it back here? LOL

Also been a while since you popped up ;)

Wow... cool school project! In "my time" we didn't have that kind of projects, but I guess that was a long time ago

I'm not going to promise anything (because I hate to break promises) but I'll try to get something.

BTW, wouldn't it be better to take "him" to places that could be easily identified? I mean, and following your example, a bar - unless it's a very well known place from a very specific town - can be difficult to connect to the town in question. I think it could work better if we take "him" to visit some national buildings, statues, bridges, towers, etc... But this is just my suggestion :tomato:

Stanley in the Maksimir Park. This public park was established in 1794. Stanley is standing in its central area in front of Vidikovac (panorama building) with a beautiful view on the lakes, the central alley and thick woods surrounding the park. Next to the park is a city ZOO with 281 animal species. People come here to enjoy the nature, jog, walk their pets or take a ride on a bike. In summer children go pony riding.

hmm maybe ill do it, maybe not.

Stanley at the Flour Square, the most famous square in Zagreb with numerous kavanas (kava means coffee, kavana means a coffee place), flower kiosks in the south, a cinema and a church. Zagreb people love having coffee in kavana with family, friends or colleagues. They also don't mind sitting alone and watching people go by or simply read a newspaper. Kavana is for sure a central socializing place in Zagreb and in Croatia.

:tnx:

Oh do I ever. Amelie was one of the best films that I have seen in a long time. Along with the dwarf (garden gnome), there is that delightful bit with the prompter for shy people, and the faked letter from the wayward, dead ex-husband of the concierge. Except for the gratuitous montage of sex scenes for the question "How many people are having orgasms, right now?", it would almost be a good family film.

Kon-Tiki 14-04-2006 01:10 AM

Le Fabuleus Destin d'Amélie Poulin's an awesome movie, especially the garden gnome idea in there :D I'll see if I can get a pic with Stanley from Belgium, and'll ask 'round to see if some people I know that aren't on Abandonia can take a pic with Stanley from where they live, too :ok:

#BlakhOle# 14-04-2006 02:03 AM

Is this a game?

Stebbi 16-04-2006 03:01 AM

gnnghhh wont.....let.....this....thread....die!!

Ines 17-04-2006 09:39 PM

This is not a game. It's for real.
In the next two weeks we can still help Holly have more pictures from Europe, as deadline for Holly is early May.

However, we can also do it for the sake of Abandonia community. Actually, after early May maybe we can do the same with Abandonia logo.

But if you don't think that would be interesting, never mind.

Have a good day and may the force be with you. :monkey_dance:

Kon-Tiki 17-04-2006 09:54 PM

Only Europe? Was going to ask a friend of mine to take one in front of the Phra Pathom Chedi, in Nakhonpathom, Thailand :D

Shrek 17-04-2006 10:57 PM

Oh :tai:

I' m glad you guys / girls bumped this one up... (I almost forgot it, sorry  )

So, two weeks... that means this week and the next one...

BTW, is there a specific size for the picture? (1280x960, 640x480 or something else?)

Mutantmessiah 18-04-2006 10:58 AM

Isn't Flat Stanley from a book? Isn't that breaking copyright?

Blood-Pigggy 18-04-2006 11:37 AM

Well we aren't selling him or anything.

Kon-Tiki 18-04-2006 12:45 PM

It's actually good advertisement for the book :D

Ines 18-04-2006 06:22 PM

Wow, sorry, I said it clumsily. I mentioned Europe because Holly is from the States and she can have plenty from there (ain't I smart!!). She will get photos with the Flat Stanley from Africa too. Wouldn't know about Asia and other continents. In any case, all places on this planet are equally interesting, of course!

As for the size of the photo. Hm, the Flat Stanley should be clearly visible and his size shouldn't be smaller than A4. The photo with Stanley should be of the size which can be printed and displayed for other people to see.

Sayonara :kosta:

P.S. Holly drew this, so even if she did it based on a picture from a book it is still Holly's interpretation and her artistic skills.

Sebatianos 18-04-2006 06:29 PM

Expect Stnaley to post his photo of the Slovenian visit soon :ok:

Ines 29-04-2006 05:18 PM

Finally someone heard my pleas. I'm sure Holly will be happy.
Have a look at Kon-Tiki and Stanley in front of medieval town hall in Leuven.

:ok:

BeefontheBone 29-04-2006 05:20 PM

Wow, that's a really nice building. I'd love to help out, but don't have a printer I'm afraid.

Tulac 29-04-2006 05:32 PM

Draw him yourself :P

Ines 08-05-2006 05:33 PM

Dear Abandonians,

Yet another Kon-Tiki's contribution to this rarely visited topic. :tomato:

His friend Bow from Thailand took a picture with Stanley in front of the "Big Chedi", that is, Ong Pra Pathom Chedi which is the official name of the 127 m high temple/pagoda located in the center of the city Nakhon Pathom. It is an important buddhist center since the 6th century. The current building was created by king Mongkut in 1860.

You can also find this information on Wikipedia.

All other contributions are still most welcome.
