Havell 03-03-2006 07:36 PM

I'm opening this poll early due to all the complaints about missing the poll last week. Voting closes 8pm GMT on Sunday, as usual.

BeefontheBone 03-03-2006 07:41 PM

What happened to Red Dwarf? If we're going to openly flaunt our nerdiness *cough*StarTrek*cough* it might as well be funny :)

On the other hand, I'm liking the way feet came out of nowhere :)

Kon-Tiki 03-03-2006 07:50 PM

Aye, Red Dwarf's a good suggestion. As for the current choices, I voted Spectrum Games, although I'd prefer to cast a negative vote for owls and Firefox.

Don Andy 03-03-2006 07:58 PM

As for the generally annoying "Yay, Firefox" (which is yet to be yelled) here is my generally annoying "Nooo, not Firefox....again!" :bleh:

I'm going with Musicals this time.

Danny252 03-03-2006 07:59 PM

"Yay, Firefox"

Happy?

Firefox have way more right to be there than most options. C'mon now people how could someone even think of having a week with feet as avatar? I find the idea so ridiculous it's actually revolting.

Frodo 03-03-2006 10:49 PM

I voted Spectrum games again. Hopefully this week it will win. :D

Before I forget ...

Nooooooo. Not firefox :bleh:

Besides the whole Firefox thing, I totally agree with you. Havin feet as a theme would lead me to not participating in the theme. Although I wanted to participate in every I will not going to take feet as an avatar.

heLL0 04-03-2006 12:20 AM

:eeeeeh: Spectrum games definitly.

Modeus 04-03-2006 12:23 AM

Oh let's please not do games or firefox :\

Anyway, i vote for spectrum games.

Tulac 04-03-2006 10:07 AM

Well yeah spectrum games = almos the same as 80's games...

SirPeter 04-03-2006 10:32 AM

Iron_Scarecrow 04-03-2006 11:29 AM

I so want to see owls win. The boards will be flooded with "O RLY" avatars. LOL

Eagle of Fire 04-03-2006 11:38 AM

Who's game to have several people to have the same avatar if Owl win? I am. :sneaky:

Gelfo 04-03-2006 12:02 PM

swiss 05-03-2006 03:40 PM

I presume that "National Costume" will make it ... so here is my brand new Avatar!

<----

It shows one of the "Doskerkerls". A group of old man that relive the good old days (at least on festvials) of the place where I was born.
I really didn't want to post a Dirndl or Lederhosen for that's just for the south of Germany...

Danny252 05-03-2006 03:42 PM

Fiiiiiiiirrrefoooooooxx...

Don Andy 05-03-2006 03:46 PM

Oh, to hell with it, can you people please vote Firefox so we don't have it again anytime soon? LOL

Puffin 05-03-2006 04:12 PM

I actually have like 20 professional photos of me wearing our national costume.. But I threw my scanner away :(

Grinder 05-03-2006 05:35 PM

Owls. We do NOT want to let it come to this...

Kon-Tiki 05-03-2006 05:40 PM

All that owl muck's actually asking for despising it, y'know. It's dumb as a brick, and it's no fun at all getting slapped 'round the ears with it all the time.

It was funny the first few times, but now it's getting just as old and not funny as a joke that was told a million times in a row.

I must admit, that some of the owl pics still make me smile, but that mainly because of the owls, and not because the text. Of course, the real owls, not the ones that were humilated and disfigured beyond recognition through Photoshop.

It just like with every other craze on the net, like All Your Base or the Numa Numa Dance. It was funny when it started, but it is not funny anymore.

Eagle of Fire 06-03-2006 04:01 AM

Ok, so which pic we should take to all get the same avatar for the duration of this week? :P

gregor 06-03-2006 05:56 AM

This is incredibly stupid. if i remember correctly we were supposed to pick subject everyone knew. so that with the picture, that would be according to the selected topic, we could show our personality (in a way). how are we supposed to do that with owls if we dont' know anything about them? moreover how are we supposed to show it to the rest who also dont' know anything about them?

sugestiuons like that are stupid. as far as the firefox goes what exactly is that? It's a programe for browsing internet! how can a that be an avatar theme? what are you going to do? are you going to use their logo? ok fine but what about the others? what are they going to put if you already took the logo?

suggestions should be such that everyone knows the topic well and that the topic has potential for many avatars instead of just one (like firefox). potential should be big enough so everyone could find themselves in it. and not just some bird lover or programme freek.

I suppose the logic would be that if it won the poll then there clarly are people who can get avatars for it. That's democracy. Anyway, I know bugger all about owls and yet can still appreciate the expressions on their beaky faces. There is lots of fanart etc connected with Firefox and clearly the people who keep voting for it have something in mind for their avatars.

Oh, and shut up punch.

Eagle of Fire 06-03-2006 06:54 AM

I don't see why Firefox would be a problem. Here is the avatar I made and I should have displayed if it wasn't that people constantly keep voting for other themes because they lack imagination.

http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/3499/firefox26cs.jpg

gregor 06-03-2006 07:18 AM

aside from a fox on fire i don't see what it has to do with firefox browser.

should i find a fox, put some petrol on it and lit it to get a firefox? no it would have to be the logo and there is only one logo. unless you do variations from it which is not the same anymore. if you showed me this picture without me knowing you are talking about that browser i would never connect it to it.

Tulac 06-03-2006 08:28 AM

Well what about ZX spectrum games, how can they reflect your personality, do you think everyone here knows much about those games?
Also national costumes, or fruits, flies, how the heck can they reflect your personalities...
Musicals, now please tell me how in the world can that reflect your personality, or how much people even know about musicals???

I don't really know what's wrong with owls ,no you don't have to put O RLY and things like that on them...

Basically by your way of thinking the whole avatar week is stupid because there are always people who won't know much about the theme...

Shrek 06-03-2006 08:35 AM

Well, I would say this is a good oportunity to "learn" something about it.... at least that's what I do, but maybe I'm just a "freak"

to increase the learning amount of the avatar weeks, what about adding a rule that every post made to the current thread MUST contain a fact about the theme?

I don't know what all this owl fuss is about, but please enjoy my photograph of an airship hangar under construction in Orly, France, in 1920-something. It could (and possibly did) house quite a number of owls.

here is my 2 cents (slavic peoiple should get it):

gregor 09-03-2006 05:36 AM

woul dsomeone car eto at least explain to me what's with the "Orlyi"? what does it mean? why do you have it written all over?

a1s 09-03-2006 07:13 AM

well, as you know 'O RLY?' means 'oh realy?' in geekspeak (or whatever it's called) ОРЛЫ is a letter fro letter transition of that into cyrilic, but it allso means 'eagles', which is sort of a praise.

kajjj 09-03-2006 07:29 AM

in Polish ORLY means eagles as well, no praise in it though.
and there's a slight difference in spelling: ORŁY

gregor 09-03-2006 08:05 AM

i am not enough of a geek then...

yah "orel" is an eagle in slovenian and "orli" would be eagles. that's why i dont' get it.... ah never mind...
