I used to have this great ability as a kid - and I'm trying to get it back!
That's right, I'm talking 'bout lucid dreaming.
People who master the art of lucid dreaming, can do anything they want in their dreams. Fly around, peek on that hot neighbour, brutally murder anyone who you encounter, transform yourself into other creatures... it's great fun!

Who recognizes this - or even already does it? Everyone, that's right, everyone can learn it. It would be disgraceful if I deprived it from you. Experienced lucid dreamers can even meet with eachother... anywhere you want! Enlightning, free and most of all fun.

As mentioned, I occasionally did this when I was a child, but now I am deprived much more often of my sleep and I lost my talent. There are numurous exercises which can help you experience this, you can find them tons of them when you Google search 'lucid dreaming'.

There are already groups of lucid dreamers who meet everyday (night, I should say) and have amazing fun. Maybe, maybe, we can set up the Abandonia Lucid Dreaming Group one day...

The main goal of this topic is to discuss lucid dreaming, or help eachother (if you're interested, of course). I already know some trics which can help you on your way.

Good night!

TheGiantMidgit 11-02-2006 11:49 PM

Yea, it's pretty easy to master, but it takes alot out of dreaming...

I assume you've seen "The Waking Life"?

Tulac 11-02-2006 11:50 PM

It sometimes happens to me that I realise that I'm dreaming, I mostly wake up, but once I actually was really controlling my dream for a couple of minutes, it was great, I was sorry that I woke up...

Chuck the plant 11-02-2006 11:57 PM

Well, I'm usually able to control my dreams once I actually find out I'm only dreaming in the first place.

However, what do you mean by "lucid dreamers are able to meet each other"? You mean like sharing dreams or even something like "telepathy"? Sorry, I don't believe in such a thing...

Himmler 12-02-2006 12:06 AM

i often killed a lot of people on my lucid dreaming(or beaten) and now i quite master it :D

you must know that dreams last for a few seconds, right? :D

Yobor 12-02-2006 12:09 AM

I do this. It's great stuff.

Same here. Although dont you just hate it when you know that you are dreaming and then waking up (Still dreaming!!), walking downstairs and notice that you are still dreaming. That freaked me out allitle ones.

Or when you know that you are dreaming and want to wake up from that dream becaurse the dream sucks LOL.

Playbahnosh 12-02-2006 06:48 AM

Looks interesting.... I look into it... :ok:

Iron_Scarecrow 12-02-2006 07:25 AM

Sounds ridiculous to me.

Quintopotere 12-02-2006 08:15 AM

Sometimes I make lucid dreams and almost always I use those opportunities to fly like Superman :w00t:
That's a really great experience :D

Danny252 12-02-2006 08:33 AM

I can control my dreams in the morning, 4/5 am.

Fun.

Iron_Scarecrow 12-02-2006 10:24 AM

Yeah but you're probably half awake then Danny.

TheChosen 12-02-2006 12:02 PM

OhmygodOhmygodOhmygod....

This is what i always wanted to do: Contol my weird dreams!

I don't know either, only read it. I think it is possible, why not? It would be cool to invade my friends's dreams and do cool trics on them... hehe.

Do you dream at all? Of course, everyone does, you might not remember it. I can assure you, it is really wonderful. It's like performing magic! With some training, you can even force OEBs (Out-Of-Body-Experiences) and travel the whole world for free, visiting your friends, man, that would be cool!

I'm no expert, but the site mentioned says dreams (and the REM sleep) last from 5 minutes to an hour, and I find that more plausible.
besides I'm sure he ment dream time, not real time.

Only at night, baby

TheChosen 12-02-2006 01:06 PM

Okay, i read the whole site and im ready to try the technique.

Sweet dream everyone!

Kearnsy 12-02-2006 01:21 PM

I haven't actually had a dream in about a year...seriously!
Im not just forgetting about them as soon as I wake up, because I can remember the ones I have had for quite a while.

...Its actually quite sad... well Im of to sleep in total darkness now.

Master MC 12-02-2006 01:23 PM

To bed?
But... it's still afternoon!

BTW have you read the site?
It says that everyone dreams. It gives some tips on how to remember them - the first step toward lucid dreaming.

Don Andy 12-02-2006 01:34 PM

Well, the page also tells not to be so excited about the whole thing :P

Yobor 12-02-2006 01:54 PM

I was under the impression that the dreams you remember occur in real time.

Gelfo 12-02-2006 03:31 PM

Pff..

What's the point? .. honestly.

Master MC 12-02-2006 03:34 PM

Nah, it's useless.

Yay, controlling dreams! Allright, I'll try.. once I'm done with that I'm gonna try and control my real life :bleh:

Grinder 12-02-2006 04:48 PM

I once had this really weird dream...I don't remember if it was really a dream, but it must have been, and I've hat it two or three times. Here it is.

I'm standing somewhere, doing nothing. Then I get this strange feeling. I pull my
legs off the ground, and all of a sudden, I'm floating. I move like I'm swimming,
and it just feels awesome. So I'm swimming around the room (which is also weird,
because everytime I dream this, I'm in my brother's room), and suddenly, it's
gone. It's not that I drop down or anything, I just can't remember the rest.
I either wake up, or I dream something else.
Everytime I dreamed this, It was day. But once It was a late summer's
evening, the air was warm, and the horizon was orange. It was beautiful.
I stood in the window (in my brother's room, again), and I floated out.
I rose up into the sky, and I was just sitting there in the air, looking over
the street and all the houses. Then I swam over the roof and towards
the next street, were I stopped in front of a window and looked inside
at two people that were talking, but they didn't see me.
Then, I flew (yes, I was flying now) in another direction. There's a large field
in the middle of Heiligen-see (where I live), towards which I flew. I sat down
on the rooftop of a house and watched the beautiful sunset. Then, I flew back
to my house, entered my room through the window, lay down in my bed and
immediately fell asleep.

When I woke up, I had had the best sleep in my whole life. I can still remember almost everything about the dream. It's heard to describe, but I've never been so happy as in the dream.

EDIT: typo.

Master MC 12-02-2006 08:49 PM

From your story, I can conclude that you have serious dreaming-talent. You might want to train yourself - I have the feeling it'll be easy! The rewards will be great...

Grinder 12-02-2006 08:53 PM

I would really like to dream like that again. I'm not sure if I should
believe this whole lucid thing, but I think I'll try it.

Master MC 12-02-2006 08:57 PM

It's true, trust me ;)

gufu1992 12-02-2006 09:00 PM

I can't control dreams... But I can easily wake up!

punch999 12-02-2006 09:40 PM

Master MC 12-02-2006 09:58 PM

ReamusLQ 13-02-2006 12:01 AM

I have a book on Lucid Dreaming, and it has a bunch of tips and tricks on how to train yourself to become lucid. I've done it exactly four times in my sleep, before I became too busy to keep up with the process. My Dad did it for a long time too and had Lucid dreams for a long LONG time. It was one of the most incredible experiences ever.

A problem a lot of people have when they become Lucid is that they wake up in the excitement. This took awhile to over come, but the times I have been Lucid were amazing. The coolest was the time I was able to fly to the sun. It was soooo wonderful!

When I was lucid, I would use the time to practice my music. I was able to practice a song for like, six hours, and when I woke up I had totally improved on it. It was really amazing.

Master MC 13-02-2006 12:03 AM

Why don't you summarize the book for us

punch999 13-02-2006 12:19 AM

Squalidangel 13-02-2006 03:48 AM

Same here, when I was younger I was very successful at lucid dreaming but now with lack of sleep I hardly ever have them... but what is that about the 'group' lucid dreaming stuff...? They can meet each other or just try to experience the same kind of dream together..? Check out erowid.com they have alot of information about it and related links. Also a list of herbs, vitamins, illeagle substances and special machines that can help induce lucid dreaming.

Grinder 13-02-2006 04:53 AM

Here's another one I just remembered. When I was a little child, I
shared a room with my younger brother. We had a bunk bed (Is
that the correct word?) and I was sleeping on the upper bed. I was
dreaming the following:

I was lying in my bed, and I saw a toothbrush. I grabbed the
toothbrush. I realized I was dreaming, so I held the toothbrush reaaally
tight, to be sure I was dreaming. Then I woke up, and the toothbrush
was gone. And, I remembered the dream. It also happened once with
some money in my hand, but the rest of the dream was the same.

Oh, and punch, I'll be there. I'll be in the empty building on the second
floor with my Barett M82, and give you cover.

Great! We should start making teams!
Quinto, you'll be in my team and fly out the ammo to us.
Or, you could be the runner - They'll never get you!

I was using these tricks to remember dreams yesterday before I went to sleep.
At first, I was a little distracted by the other sounds, but then I was quite calm.
My eyes started to get heavy, and I just let them go. After a while, I got this feeling
that I sometimes get. I was lying there totally straight, and I felt my body shaking.
At first it shaking like I was lying on the floor of a boat, but for the 4th - 14th time, I felt
like my body was rotating to the right, stopping, and rotating back in its original
position. I don't know what that was, but I remember having it earlier a couple of
times. Does anyone know what that is? It happened about 5 minutes after I went to sleep,
and I was still awake and pretty conscious.

Ok! We'll win easily ;)

I'm used to feel the same sensation when I make meditation!
To make lucid dreams is very useful make that kind of meditation in which you have to feel every part of your body, and that's because in your dream you have a "different kind of body" so you'll notice that!

Another important thing is starting to remember the dreams you made in the passed night.

Two songs I had in my head when I was half awake were Electronic Performes by Air
and Seven Days Of Falling by the Esblörn Svensson Trio.

And we need to get punch on our team. What a great combination.
Me as a sniper, punch as a striker and you as an ammo runner and explorer.
They'll be sooo owned.

You've all gone mad.

Don Andy 13-02-2006 09:59 AM

What's so "mad" about writing down one's dreams? Reading some dream diaries can be more interesting than reading a good book. Especially when you are interested in psychology.

I did not know that.
Scarecrow, I'm a little sceptic about the lucid thing, too. But since I've had these dreams I could control when I was little, and now know what they were, I thought it might be interesting. Plus, the dreams I had were awesome. By writing a dream diary, you trick your subconscious into remembering the dreams, just by writing down what you felt the night.

TheChosen 13-02-2006 02:35 PM

Okay, i think it worked last night.

In my dream, i had powers to create objects and move object by toughts. I managed to control everything, altought the dream was little fuzzy.

Oh, i do remember a one lucid dreaming technique in my childhood.
When i was a small kid, i usually had a strange nightmare, where two owl, two flying cat or two flying dogs come in trought the window, grab me and take me to the oblivion. I had this nightmare many times until i did something in my dreams: When they came in, i hide and they couldnt find me.

When i did that in my dream, i stopped seeing that nightmare.

A bit off-topic, just thought I'd mention that Paul McCartney composed Beatles' Yesterday in a dream too.

Imagine if he wouldn't have written it down after waking up.

WaAn 13-02-2006 02:59 PM

Blood-Pigggy 13-02-2006 03:16 PM

The first step is just realizing that you're dreaming.
And that's the hardest part. :bleh:

It's really easy actually, I do it each time I have a dream.
Why just tonight, I had a dream that I was a dance party, and I thought of "Jesus" and bam, there he was.

It's cool, but you gotta watch out for your thoughts, don't want to bring in your childhood fears.

Ah!

You really had me there last night :sneaky:

The Fifth Horseman 13-02-2006 05:23 PM

Interesting, might actually check it out.

I used to be able to control my dreams some time ago. Moving through walls and flying happened a few times, then, too.
However, in recent years the dreams started becoming realistic (full sensory range illusions, in fact), and most recently I don't even remember my dreams after waking most of the time.

Grinder 13-02-2006 06:21 PM

Something I forgot to mention earlier. Yesterday, when I was trying those exercises for remembering dreams, I woke up at 3 AM. I read about these OBEs on the ld4all website, and it said there that sometimes your astral body falls into your physical body at the end of an OBE. Maybe I was having one, but I didn't remember it. That would explain waking up in the middle of the night. What do you think?

Don Andy 13-02-2006 06:32 PM

Nah, you most likely just dozed off. When having an OBE you basically "just" leave your body. You can then move around like you were some kind of ghost and should see some kind of "silver string" connecting your "spirit" to your body. This string was so far confirmed by everyone having an OBE. Rumors say, "cutting" this string results in death, but noone ever really managed ;)
Well, if you really had an OBE you would remember standing outside of you body. You should've been even able to see yourself lying in the bed, but when seeing yourself the first time from the outside, you will most likely be so friggin scared you will be thrown back in your body at an instant.

If you ever manage to get an OBE, try to go as far as possible before your string doesn't allow any more distance.

I read some kind of guide about OBEs way back, if anybody wants it, I'll browse my bookmarks for it.

punch999 14-02-2006 12:55 PM

That is funny the only thing I ever heard about cutting a obe string was from AD&D

In other news dreamt is the only word in the english language to end in mt.. isnt that a nice thing to know

Havell 14-02-2006 01:00 PM

I started a dream diary the night after I read this thread for the first time and I'm already noticing that the length of the dreams that I'm remembering is increasing, my latest one was about 5 minutes long, involving me fighting against a load of kids trying to spray graffiti on my house and myself. It was much longer compared to the dream on my first mgiht, which involved a pack of Monster Munch bigger than myself.
I haven't had lucidity yet, but I've noticed a couple of things that mgiht trigger lucidity, firstly, my dreams usually feature my house, but a slightly distorted version of it (more rooms, etc), secondly, they tend ot have elements lifted from computer games (eg a minimap or inventory screen).

punch999 14-02-2006 01:33 PM

Yes this is my second night on dream diary work and my dreams I remember a lot more.

Grinder 14-02-2006 01:35 PM

My dream diary is 2 nights long. Can't remember a single dream.

punch999 14-02-2006 02:40 PM

You need to brainwash yourself into doing it.

And wake up 3 times a night. You will at least remember 1 dream

Quintopotere 14-02-2006 03:25 PM

I remember one dream of the first night and two dreams of the second night and in a dettailed enough way :D
But those dreams were too strange to "recognize myself" and take a lucid control...

punch999 14-02-2006 03:36 PM

Keep studying it. Im hooked on writing my dreams. There is something about writing them down that kind of starts digging thru your brain and you really start remembering a lot about the dream.

Playbahnosh 14-02-2006 04:19 PM

Hmm, anybody watching/ed Star Trek: Voyager? There is an epizode just about this when the crew gets attacked in their dreams. Chakotay has learned to control his dreams from his grandfather, and he is the only one who can battle(or at least try to reason) these attackers. He uses the Earth's Moon as his reality check object, this way he soon realize that he is dreaming and can do stuff... well considering the fact that Star Trek presented this idea too, it might deserve a try :ok:

punch999 14-02-2006 08:32 PM

Master MC 14-02-2006 08:33 PM

Last weekend, I went to the holodeck and climbed the K'Plar mountains.

punch999 14-02-2006 08:40 PM

Havell 15-02-2006 06:20 AM

There's no need to wake up more than once per might. Though it would increase the amount of dreams you recall (as you usually only recall the dream you had beofre you woke up) but is by no means necessary.

Don Andy 15-02-2006 06:34 AM

I already saw some kind of "pattern" in my dreams (I don't have a diary, yet, though).

My dreams take place in 5 different "dream-worlds" everyone with another setting.

The first one is the "normal world". When I'm there, I usually have a dream about family, school, etc. and everything seems to be, well, normal.

The second one is the "weird world". When I'm there, everything can happen. And I mean everything. I just can't control it, yet ;)

The third one is the "dark world". There, everything is pretty much like the normal world, but with a way darker and serious setting. (Anyone every played The Dead City? You get the idea.) But you can't call these dreams nightmares, yet.

Then there's the fourth one, the "nightmare world". Well, it's not really a world for itself, but a "deformation" of the other worlds. It's like having a normal/weird/dark dream, but with these things you want to close your eyes at, and then see you can't.)

And last, the most horrible one, I don't know what to call it, let's say the "cogwheel world". If anyone read my post in the nightmares thread that was here a while ago, he knows what I'm talking about. In this place, nothing is normal. I shift from one point to another without even wanting it and every place is more horrible than the last. There's a place where everything is one big machine and I'm inside it. Then there's one, where I just can see cogwheels. Then I can see earth exploding several times, then I'm back at the machine. The colors black and white always occur often in that world. Also everything that happens in this wolrd, no matter what, and may it be the slightest rotation of a cogwheel, fills me with some kind of guilt, that frightens me more than everything.
If dreaming brings you into parallel dimensions, then this one is hell itself.

Im having the problem of not remembering my getting up at 1:30 AM so I remember 2 dreams. But not getting up in between then.

Sadly I don't remember my dreams last night which I feel is a rather large step back. Damn

No one posted here for two days... are you trying no more?

This night i've made the first step in lucid dreaming :Brain:

In the dream it was raining and i was running... but suddenly (maybe because I was not wet) I thought "Hey! But I'm dreaming!". So I made a 'reality check' and that confermed my thought: so I said "Yipee! Let's fly around"
I started to fly, but maybe I was too excited so I woke up after few seconds...
