How old do people / teenagers have to be in your country do do stuff?

I mean stuff like:

Buy alcohol
Use alcohol
[where do they sell alcohol?]
Tobacco
Enter clubs / bars
Drive
Get married
The age where you [how do I say it???] controll your own life. Can do whatever you want to.

In Iceland (correct me if I'm wrong):
Buy and use alcohol: 21 years.
They sell it in liquir stores.
Tobacco: 18
Enter clubs / bars: 21
Drive: Start learning 16, licenses 17.
Get married: I think it's 19.
We can do everything we want to at the age of 18, which is a bit of a controversy, seeing that we can't drink, clubbin' or get married untill 19/21 :not_ok:

So. If this made ANY sense to you guys, how is it in your country?

Havell 27-09-2004 07:23 PM

Here in England:

You have to be 5 drink at home, 14 to drink in a restaurant and 18 to drink in a bar or buy alcohol from shops (messed up I know).
16 to smoke and marry,
17 to drive,
18 to vote and own property (control your own life like Puffin said).
Then there's obscure ones like driving a heavy goods vehicle (like a lorry) or pilot a civilian plane at 21.

aaberg 27-09-2004 07:28 PM

DENMARK

Buy alcohol: 15 (This rule is only a couple of years old)
Drink alcohol: When you are born!
You can buy all kind of alcohol averywhere.
Tobacco: 15 (This is a new law, a year ago there where no rules about tobacco.)
Enter clubs/bars: When you are born
Drink at clubs/bars/restaurant: 18
Drive 18, you can begin taking the license 3 month before.
Get merried: 18, I think.
Vote: 18

:ok:

OMG I can't wait for my trip to Denmark
Everything is really strickt here, I find it. But teenagers DO drink, smoke and all, but it's not always easy :( (hey, but I'm an angel  )

I certainly didn't understand a crap of that! :D

Hi mom :bye:

FreeFreddy 27-09-2004 07:44 PM

Here it's that age:
Buy / use alcohol - 18 / 16
Same for cigarettes or tobacco.
Clubs / Bars - 18
You can drive cars and get license at 18, but you can drive mopeds at 16 and rollers at 14.
Actually you may marry here at the age of 18, but often teenagers just rent an own flat and live there together most time, because they can have own flat at 16 years if they're able to pay for it.
Control you life? Actually the age of 18 is more fitting for that and oficially allowed, but some try that at 16 and with some problems and restrictions they actually can manage it.

Well, I think that makes sense... Well, I can't really imagine any younger president than 35... but hey, that's just me :P

Red Diablo 27-09-2004 07:52 PM

Buy and use alcohol: 18/20 years.
Tobacco: 18
Enter clubs / bars: from 18 upwards depending on the place
Drive: Start learning 16,5, license 18.
Get married: 18 (?)

Allowed to start fiddling around with (o)(o) at 15. :D

Btw Aaberg probably knows where I'm from, at least if I say we're the ones you'll see drunk on Strǿget in Kǿbenhavn...

aaberg 27-09-2004 07:53 PM

In Randers, a town in Denmark, the mayor is only about 25. That ain't the president, but then again Denmark is a monarchy, we don't have presidents. We have a queen, who always says: "Gud bevare Danmark", which means something like: "God, let Denmark remain" That sounds a little wrong. Hmm, it's not easy to translate. :D

FreeFreddy 27-09-2004 08:01 PM

God zij med ons (God be with us in Dutch) ;)

Stroggy 27-09-2004 08:44 PM

does sound a lot like "God Bewaar ons" in dutch
or in english: "God keep us"

anyway.
not sure about clubs and bars, but i've been drinking in restaurants since I was born.

Gilato 27-09-2004 08:45 PM

In British Columbia, Canada:

Buy/Use alcohol: 19, you can buy alcohol at 'liquor stores' or 'cold beer and wine stores'
Tobacco: 19 (use to be 16)
Enter Clubs/Bars: 19
Drive: 16 (In Alberta, Canada you only have to be 14)
Get Married: Whenever you want!
Own a House: Whenever you can afford it
Vote: 18

:D

Havell 27-09-2004 08:47 PM

Get married whenever!!!
How does that work?

Gilato 27-09-2004 08:49 PM

Well, within reason.

I mean as long as you're mature enough and can afford to settle down, then you can get married.

Stroggy 27-09-2004 09:06 PM

a friend of mine once gave me an entire page (pages) with info like this on each country.
when its allowed to drink
when its allowed to get married
when its allowed to drive
when its allowed to have heterosexual sex
when its allowed to have homosecual sex
basically a whole lot of info

Puffin 27-09-2004 10:30 PM

In Iceland, the sex age is:
kids 14-18 can have sex with other kids within that range.
So basically a 18 year old can't have sex with a 19 year old.
I think the same applies for homosexual sex...
But I don't think they do anything unless the parents disagree with that.

Mr.Peskapoe 28-09-2004 04:27 AM

Sweden

15 to start messing around in bed.
15 (I think) to start taking a drivers lisence and 18 to finally get it.
18 to buy alcohol from the average shop, as well as tobacco.
20 to buy any alcoholic beverage with more then 3,5 % alhohol, which has to be bought through a government monopoly.

I think Titan can fill in whatever I've missed.

Tom Henrik 28-09-2004 07:03 AM

Sex 16
Drivers Licence 18
Test driving 16
Vote 18
Adult 18

Maikel 28-09-2004 07:29 AM

Drinks 16
Nastier Drinks 18

sex...well, whenever you feel like it, though when you are 18 and the other is 17 it better be real love cause you can be sued by the underage

Adult = 18

Get Married: Whenever you want![/quote]
Not good that you can marry whenever you want. I mean the decision is left to the young people, and now guess what most of them do? They mostly marry as early as possible, right? After that their possibility to study for better job in the future is mostly ruined then...

Stroggy 28-09-2004 04:47 PM

well in some countries people are already technically married before they are born (in India the upper class for example... not sure if it still exists but it did)

Puffin 28-09-2004 04:54 PM

How about gay marries? Here they aren't allowed <_< :not_ok:
but gay people can live together, in confirmed cohabitation.
They can't adopt babies either :not_ok:

FreeFreddy 28-09-2004 05:01 PM

They're allowed to marry here, either gay or lesbians. <_<
They also may not adopt children here - bad influence.

aaberg 28-09-2004 05:03 PM

Are you gay or something, since it seems to bother you so much?

I really don't know how it is in Denmark, but I don't think they can adopt children. But I don't think there are any problems in getting merried. :)

aaberg 28-09-2004 05:05 PM

Not that there is anything wrong with being gay! ^_^

Puffin 28-09-2004 05:14 PM

Well, although it's really fun talking about my sexuality, I think we're off topic :ot: ;)

Open another thread? :P

FreeFreddy 28-09-2004 05:17 PM

If you wish. I'll be there to discuss / talk. ;)

unclefester 28-09-2004 09:32 PM

Here you can drink smoke have sex whenever you want (but you have to take care so that your parents won't know)(some stupid people in my school even smoke black(kind of joint))

Unknown Hero 28-09-2004 09:57 PM

In Croatia 18 everything cept:
Driving licence for motorbyke (50cc) 16.
Clubs - depends which and when.
Cigaretes and drinks are not allowed under 18, but we always buy it.
Sex - you can have sex with people who are 17 or less if you are 17 or less, and if there are no more than 6 months difference batween partners. (I broke the law! )
Get married - since you're born.

I guess that's it.

  dammit, I want it to be legal here to!

No matter, I'll just break the law

I haven't actually smoked a joint in almost 3 years, and I'm probably not going to the next 3 years. I grew over it. And now the police have stopped the hashish trade on Christiania, so now it's not that easy to get anymore.

Puffin 29-09-2004 08:49 AM

It's so expensive here :not_ok:

Unknown Hero 29-09-2004 10:40 AM

It's not very expensive here, but I will never buy it (just like cigaretes), cuz my friends always buy it so I don't have to! :bleh:
Croatia rulez!

FreeFreddy 29-09-2004 12:18 PM

The usual price for Marihuana or Piez or LSD or similar here is ranging from 60 to 200 Euro. Depends on the kind of drugs.

Maikel 30-09-2004 08:55 AM

haha A prerolled Joint here cost like...2 euro's or so.

a normal joint here is much stronger then an american Blunt , which all those Jay-z's and stuff Rap about. I would like to sit next to them when they take a dutch Blunt

Unknown Hero 30-09-2004 11:08 AM

A "pile" (it's called something like that in Croatia) of joint (or cannabis, I'm not sure which one of those two) costs around 7 euro.
1 ecstasy pill costs 3-4 euro.

I never took ecstasy and I never will! I'm clean!

Puffin 30-09-2004 11:28 AM

Wow... a gram of green coasts about 45 € here
I have no idea what ex coasts... but hillusional mushrooms coast about 56€.

Stroggy 30-09-2004 11:38 AM

FreeFreddy 30-09-2004 02:16 PM

I don't use them also. But still know the prices as some of my friend's friends smoke them.

WOW my danish is rusty** and the fact that i don't have Icelandic/nordic letters on my computer doesn't help* :P

The only gramatic error, is that "naerre" should be "n?r", so it was not that bad. And no, ?rhus is not near there at all. ?rhus is the second largest city in Denmark, the capital of the province. It's in a totaly different part of the country!. :not_ok:

But hey, the other places are probably great too :ok:

Puffin 30-09-2004 09:52 PM

Well, I don't have the letter... so I do ae. so the error was basically the "re" in the end ;)

But hey, who knows, I might travel around if I find time :ok:
I've never been to Denmark before, so it's about time :w00t:

In 8th grade I was the only girl that hadn't lived in Denmark. Crazy.

Isn't it a little weird, that you have leaned the language, but never been to the country?

...then again, I've never been to england!!

Puffin 30-09-2004 09:59 PM

Well, when I was young (oh those old days...*sigh*) we started learning danish in 6th grade and english in 7th grade. Not sure how it is now.

I went to Germany for the first time the day AFTER my first german lessong :P

but i've almost graduated from danish. Just need one more semester (taking a semester off in danish now, actually).

aaberg 30-09-2004 10:08 PM

You are pretty good at danish. I had german leasons for 4 years or so, and I never learned it!. <_<

I can't say one sentence!

By the way:.... Ich bin nicht eine wienersnitzel!

Puffin 30-09-2004 10:10 PM

Well, thank you... I've been studying danish for 5 years, german for 1 year... My german sucks... not to mention my french and spanish
And my icelandic is probably worse than my english. In other words: BAAAAAAAAAAD.
I've only twice spoken to a Dane in danish B) one of them always replied in english, the other was almost deaf
