This is just a suggestion. So don't flame me if it's a piece of crap.

You know how when you go to a game and it's got the littlelist of stuff like; 'Walkthrough, Manual, Box Art and such. Perhaps there could be an 'In-Joke' section. For example in Day Of The Tentacle we could have something like this:

Oozo the Clown is the name of a character used in LucasArts SNES game 'Zombies Ate My Neighbours'.
[SCREENSHOT OF OOZO FROM DOTT] [SCREENSHOT OF OOZO FROM ZOMBIES ATE MY NEIGHBOURS]

Good idea?

Sebatianos 10-10-2005 11:51 AM

Oh, you mean stuff like:
When you walk to the Lou's store in Zak McKracken, you see a poster advertising Maniac Mansion on the wall.
When you enter Indy's office in The Last Crusade, you see a statue of Sam and Max and if you go through the items on the shelves, you'll find a slimey metheor from Maniac Mansion and a Crystal Shard that some guy in San Francisco wants...
When you play adventure games, you're likely to stumble upon a phrase from The Last Crusade: Hi, I'm selling these fine leather jackets.

Aren't these called 'Easter Eggs'? and for people something like 'Cameo appearances"

Tom Henrik 10-10-2005 12:05 PM

Easter Eggs. I had actually started on compiling a list of Easter Eggs for the site when I was in Spain. The list was split in two. One just telling you how to see it, and the other would have screenshots as well.

Basically, one list for those who wants to see them themselves, and one for those who have no problems whatsoever with spoilers.

Sadly that computer was stolen.

Easter Eggs, in-jokes. Whatever people call them today.

So, this is currently in production or it was but got cancelled?

Tom Henrik 10-10-2005 12:25 PM

It was, but got stolen.

Bobbin Threadbare 10-10-2005 12:30 PM

Soooooo.... Does that make it cancelled? Ot just make it slowed down? Or are you still making it? I', still unsure about it. What I mean is. The original data was stolen by a big, huge thug (Or a fellow smurf) but is it still going to happen?

Tom Henrik 10-10-2005 12:50 PM

If I get the time, I will, sure.

If anyone else is going to, go ahead. It's a nice feature.

Sebatianos 10-10-2005 01:06 PM

Well I do remember some of them (and I do have the games), so I may write some of them up and supply the screenshots, but I need to know, how it should look like or something...
Can you give us an example :Tom: ?

Bobbin Threadbare 10-10-2005 01:17 PM

I can also supply dozens.

Danny252 10-10-2005 03:24 PM

I don't really know any for old games... I know one for Microsoft Train Simulator (Hidden track) and one for Operation Flashpoint Reesistance (Your character wears a top relating to the game)

Tom Henrik 10-10-2005 03:26 PM

An example?

Uhm.. ok...

In level 2, in the maze, go left - left - right - straight - left - do the chickendance and then turn right. You'll see a picture of Kosta cleaning out his toilet.

Play Operation Flashpoint on Christmas day for a christmassy theme. Also the Stronghold game from a couple of years ago says "Merry christmas my leige" and I believe also has Easter programmed in too.

Or you could just set your clocks for 25th December I suppose.

Dungeon Keeper also had a couple of special levels.

Yeah, if I remember correctly, secret levels appear if you play while it's a full moon.

Let's not forget the holidays celebrated by the Pipboy in Fallout.

Eagle of Fire 10-10-2005 04:57 PM

Easter Eggs are add on for games hidden by the creators for the fans, not jokes. The hidden levels in Dungeon Keeper and the Cow level in Diablo II are both extremely good examples of easter eggs.

Other jokes like posters of other games are exactly that; jokes.

Fruit Pie Jones 10-10-2005 05:36 PM

You folks know about this site, right?

Sebatianos 10-10-2005 07:04 PM

I also kno of many other abandonware (even warez) sites, yet I still hang around here, review stuff and make screenshots... Although I could simply read that stuff elsewhere

Frodo 10-10-2005 10:41 PM

I just found one in Darkseed.

When looking at the gravestones in the cemetary, there is one for 'G Threepwood - RIP'

:D

Above the keg in the Scumm Bar kitchen is a picture of the Pillsbury doughboy, who is the mascot for a dough company.

:ot: I remeber that, your laptp was stolen. You had like tons of reviews preapared on your laptop but it got stolen. I thought you recovered it when you made that big update one day. You remember that day when you uploadded like 20 games or even more. (Countdown was one of them)

Well, too bad you never got your laptop back. Also i guess it slowed down abandonia's growing a bit.

welll, back to topic now

i liked eggs but i can't remeber them now, except few bonus levels in some games

Tom Henrik 11-10-2005 02:41 PM

I collected those games in a week, Marko, and updated with it. That was my way of getting back on track, after loosing all that work.

Anyways... if anyone wants to collect eggs and screenshots for different games, then be my guest. But there isn't much point in just naming a single egg in this topic. Especially not when that game isn't even on the site ;)

Just pick one of your favourite games from this site, and make a list over all the eggs (use the net), take screenshots, and zip it. That's it.

ZIP and post to this thread?

Legend of Kyrandia II: on the first "level", when the dragon asks you to bring him the letters, go to the place where the steam comes out of the ground. Use the letters on the steam to read them - several obscure references to other computer games, including the first Legend of Kyrandia.
