Not the oldest game you've found--hell, we're all abandonware fans, so that's nothing. I mean the oldest game you've still got from the time you bought it, even if you bought it secondhand.

I still have my original Ultima III box floating around here, somewhere, but the one I can place my hands on is Hidden Agenda. I reviewed that for Compute! or PC Magazine back in 1988. It remains one of the most addicting strategy games I've ever played, and probably the most insightful. Unfortunately, the creator of the game hasn't any interest in updating it and seeking a new publisher. And given the current fat cat industries that control gaming, it probably wouldn't be taken onboard, in any case.

Well I haven't kept boxes (not even CD cases usually, but I kept some C64 game tapes). The oldest game is tha one my brother got on the very same day he got his Commodore 64. It's (surprise surprise) Ghostbusters (from 1984).

Not being able to find Atari ST games in their legal form, the earliest ST (thus any type) game in box that I also still have were from 1989, Vindicators and Airborne Ranger. If there were ST games sold then I would have much earlier ones. Unfortunately in all 7+ years I had an ST (from 1987) I only managed to find and buy in boxes just 15 or so games. All the other were from other sources.

I was born in 1987 so the earliest game I have is Ice Climbers for NES, sure the box is taped heavily but it still holds together.

The oldest game I have in the box.

sadly, not many old games in the box

but I'd have to go with

M.U.L.E.

Still have the box for that.

MdaG 22-08-2005 08:23 AM

Frontier, Eye of the Beholder or Monkey Island 2 for the Amiga, can't remember which is older.

My guess would be eye of the beholder as oldest among them.

The oldest PC game that i have in its box is Prince of Persia, but the oldest should be Asteroids for the Atari 2600!

TheChosen 22-08-2005 01:48 PM

In the box?

....Ah! Pool of Radiance,Gunship or Stealth Fighter.

Theyre not the first games nor the first game boxes i had,but theyre definetely the oldest.

MrBackAlleySka 22-08-2005 06:41 PM

Oldest boxes I have are Lunar Lander for the C64, and Dragon Warrior for the NES. Best KEPT box I have would probabally be.....hm, Cyber Empires.

Blood-Pigggy 22-08-2005 06:42 PM

Original Gold Box Pool of Radiance for me!
Got it from my Uncy.

moogle 22-08-2005 06:48 PM

Archon for the Apple 2, oh yes, huge floopy disc, totally awesome, complete with manual :bleh:

Rogue 22-08-2005 06:57 PM

When I moved to USA, I left all my games in Germany. (same thing already happened before to me once)

Now I don't collect boxes for games, but a lot of Genesis games are boxed, including this one.

gorkur 23-08-2005 10:22 PM

Bruce Lee on the C64

Still love that little game :D

Doc Adrian 24-08-2005 02:30 PM

Transylvania....PQ 1...Kings Quest 3 all in the boxes. I try to get one to play and one to save.

Collector thing :ok:

mundungu 26-08-2005 08:34 AM

Oldest game I actually still have lying around is Legacy of the Ancients for the Commodore 64.

I don't know if it counts, but I still have the box front and disks to an ancient Atari ST game called "Wrath of Denethanor" stashed in a cardboard box with some Atari 2600 cartridges and other misc Commodore/Atari computer floppies (All in 5 1/4", and if there is any part of those days I am happy to see gone, it is those).

Still have the Hero Quest slipcover, the disks are there (first full game I purchased with 3 1/2" floppies) though they're pretty much fragged.

Space Hulk, Ultima VI, Doom 2 for the PC...

And both Juggle's Rainbow and Juggle's House cassette tapes, though neither of them would likely work any longer, regardless of the fact that I was so young then that I can't even remember what they ran on, as well as the fact that they really stank.

efthimios 26-08-2005 08:57 AM

Do you mean wrath of the demon? I haven't heard of that Denethanor guy.

Tulac 26-08-2005 07:06 PM

The oldest game I have is "Beware of the ultimate evil of Warlock" from Acclaim for Sega Genesis system, it's from 1994, unfortunately I didn't have any gaming system before that...

Chuck the plant 26-08-2005 08:33 PM

That would be "Space Invaders" for Atari VCS 2600. Including the silly comic-book :[img]http://www.abandonia.com/forum/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' />

Borodin 27-08-2005 11:36 AM

LOL! I actually found my original copy of Crush, Crumble, Chomp (or something like that) the other day while we were doing a long-needed spring cleaning of the garage. No reason I should have retained it, but somehow, it got lost among the flotsam of a bygone age. :)

spooks17 27-08-2005 08:06 PM

moogle 27-08-2005 11:32 PM

I just went out and bought Command And Conqure, the first one, doesn't even run on my computer, but its nice to have something nogalistic. Maybe I should start collecting...

ShadowXIX 05-09-2005 05:35 AM

Oldest game I have still in the box is Altered Beast for the Genesis system in 1989 I believe.

Oldest without the box would have to be Super Mario brothers/ Duck hunt circa 1986. I dont have any of the boxes for my old NES games they where just weak cardboard or something.

Zakhal 05-09-2005 05:47 AM

My first original games are from 1989. Those were the golden days! Funny how new games cost only 5-8 € those days. The first games I bought were collections (Great games 1&2?). After 5 years I sold the tape 64 for 120€ and bought my first PC - 486DX33. It had a harddrive and everything! :D The main reason I bought PC was to play RPG and strategy games. 64 and amiga were limited when it came to those genres.

Year or two after that I bought my first soundcard (Soundgames?) and modem. Soon I was cruising along the boxes and bulletins playing VGA planets and Zombiemud.

Office_Monk 07-09-2005 12:49 PM

C-64 tapes: Yie-Ar Kung Fu, Kane, Kickstart, Samantha Fox Strippoker, Hercules, Kentilla (which was a damn text adventure but featured a nice cover) and Lazy Jones

PC Boxed (don't know which is oldest): The Chaos Engine (my first PC game), Motor City, Humans 1 and 2 (single box), Wing Commander II

The Fifth Horseman 07-09-2005 01:10 PM

Battle Isle 1.

MarkO 07-09-2005 03:17 PM

Most of my boxes have gone the way of the dodo.

However, I do still keep the Gabriel Knight 1 & 2 boxes.

Dave 09-09-2005 10:30 PM

My first original game is Nathan Never!
Amiga 600 rulez! I've got the box with the poster & an unpublished comic ! Wow...I loved it.. :kosta:

Yep, definitely EotB.

My oldest is the Ultima Collection, although the oldest game I've had in the past is probably Manic Miner for my old 48k Spectrum. I once posted all the games that I've misplaced over the years at Home of the Underdogs and I was told I should be shot for losing so many classics.

Monkey Island 2 was made in 1991. My oldest is The Secret Of Monkey Island. I know it was made in 1990 and I was born in 1992. My brother has it. But I stole it, so I have it now. Bwahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaahahaha!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!

STFM 14-09-2005 01:24 AM

Ive got Level 9's Time and Magik Atari ST version from 1987 in original box with manual.

THEEVILOFMEN 15-09-2005 05:14 PM

Hmmmmm.... well... I would have to say Asteroids for the old Atari system. Does that count? If not, then I am afrid my oldest is probably Civilization 2.
