Hullo, this is the topic for all my games and crap I'm making, I decided to move everything into one compact topic.
FOR THOSE THAT CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE CONTROLS U is the universal "use" key, if you look at the spell icons in the "Power" bar, you will see each of them have a letter, Blaze has B, Teleport has T, and so on. If you bring your cursor over the icons they will give you extra info on the spells. R is the "cancel" key, if you have a spell selected, press R to revert your cursor to normal, or destroy a skeleton you are controlling. To cast a spell, press the hotkey, example - Press F for fireball, you cursor should change, now put the cursor where you want to shoot the fireball, over a tree for example, now press U. Get it? F selects fireball, U casts it! To use Skeleton, press S to select the spell, bring your cursor over the corpse of a dead human, press U, he should ressurect as a skeleton. Now press the arrow keys to move the skeleton, and space bar to attack. If any other spell is cast or you press the release button, he is destroyed. To teleport items, bring your cursor over a rabbit or coal, then press T to select the spell, press U over the rabbit or coal and it will appear in your "Food/Hunger" bar, now bring your cursor over the food and/or coal and press U, it will appear in your creature's lair, bring your cursor over the rabbit/coal to attract your creature towards it. To use blaze, press B to select it, then press U anywhere, creatures will be blown away. Now, for the most confusing spell, to use Dark Tower, set a patch of grass on fire (the green stuff that waves back and forth) to do this shoot a fireball at it, now, press D, put your cursor over the coals, and press U, a tower will come out of the ashes and it will shoot lightning periodicly, no need for you to do anything else. Those are the basics of the control mechanics. |

Bleed isn't exactly serious.
I mean it's gory and dark, and the story is serious, but there are some black humor moments. Example, one point in the game there's a old drill sergeant that's been transmogrified into a sword (how it happened will be revealed ingame), he know lives a posh and comfortable life as a gentleman. Yet if you throw up blood on his good carpet, smash pottery in his house, and cause general chaos, he'll let off a lot of cursing and vulgarity. It's kinda funny cause you get to use him as a weapon later and he screams insults when you kill enemies with him. |

If you look at Jazz Jackrabbit1 and Ren and Stimpy, you can see the variations of Toaster guns. I like the Jazz one, but putting someone in a giant toaster might be funnier :sneaky:

Depending on the type of MIDI it can be really good. IE, I'm not saying we should use it, but Doom had fantastic music and it was all MIDI, you just need to look around. |

The situation usually is that you don't have enough material later on and you try to cram everything in, instead of planning and putting everything in as soon as possible when it becomes available. I'm trying to avoid cramming everything in. |

That's pointless, you're better off searching for the MIDIs, if those things aren't going to work. Try and find something over the net, attatch it if you can.

I've thought about different themes, like if the area is full of monsters there might be a more urgent battle theme, but not too explosive. When the area is empty, like you're walking around or trying to solve a puzzle, some foreboding music plays, or if you're in a boss fight then some heavy metal comes in.

Well, each area is split into gates, and usually you have to find out how to open to gates.
Sometimes there are random puzzles too, I just don't want it to be constant action because it'll be repetitive. Tryin to make you think a little bit more. |

I'm trying to make a game here, I take your advice into consideration, but this is overall what I'm trying to accomplish. There's going to be alot of adventure qualities in here, I'm definatly going to add a skirmish mode, cause you guys have great ideas. But I want the singeplayer game to a unique story-filled experience. Here's some of the ways I want it to be -Intense action seperated by puzzles and NPC conversations -Extensive dialouge choices -Interesting and well written story. |
Dont get me wrong I respect what your saying its just puzzke and gory adreniline filled action to me has never been a great combination of genres but. Its your game do what you wish.

P.S. - All the alpha will be is probably a skirmish mode like that, ten enemies, spawn a few more later, get a few weapons, choose from a few different arenas, and go wild. Not really a RPG, take it as a Action Adventure. I do suppose RPG elements come into your blood consumption though. |

Good news, the first attack animation is complete. Here's a little descript of it. 1. His cloak billows out a bit. 2. His hand comes out. 3. Sword slides down. 4. He makes a few quick slices. 5. Retract cloak + hand. |

Actually no, I assemble the image frame by frame in the editing tool.
It works like a slideshow actually, you put one pic, then the other, and change the position each time. It's like claymation then it plays it. |

The game's version of it, it's meant to be like a lightning fast speed attack.
But it gets the message across, I don't really expect the GIF editor to maintain every aspect. I've also updated the main post with this :D . I've got to go now, big day tommorow (not really). |

As far as the movie and the sprite, I notice the frames in the animation are different from the ones in the zip file. I like the frames in the zip file better persoinally and think you aught to go with those as they are more detailed and actually quite fabulous, and the ones in the video are good too, but not as detailed and the colors don't mix on his tattered clothes in the videos, whereas the colors on the frames in the zip file match perfectly. I give this sprite a total thumbs up. It rocks. :w00t: Good job. I like the color choices. The blood and ghost like figure is very creepy yet very cool. Keep up the good work. :ok:

Believe me, it does NOT look good in medium speed, it looks like he's poking something.
I do need sounds for weapons, like a sword and gun etc. As for concept art, I'm largely clueless on how the enemies will look so feel free to whip up anything for the following. MALIC - A organic computer being with a large red eye (think HAL) a very important character in the game plot. Saminia's Minions - All I know is that they have to be largely disfigured human/scorpion hybrids. P.S. Two animations now, Blast, I like them both, one to capture colors, and one to capture speed. (By the way the sprite is much larger in these gifs so it's going to look alot sharper in the game. |

Here's the freaky computer organicoid creature. I made him as gross and spooky as possible to fit the style of the zombie and the ghosty main character guy. Here he is. Let me know what you think. EDIT: if you can't tell, theres an eyeball in his hand and hanging from his mouth for extra spookiness. Hope its not too wierd. :P

He's really damn cool, but there's one thing that I wish you could've done.
I sorta hoped the colors would be more simplistic (there're less colors and not that bright) but it's great and I'll probably just change a few things myself and then it'll suit my needs. (It's prolly going to look worse when I'm done with it, but I'm trying to make it fit into the game more). Nevermind, when I bring it into the editor the colors transmute along with it. |
It's ok, your sprites are really good, I didn't know you wanted simple colors, sry I didn't realize that or I would've done it that way. Can't wait to see the finished product. :) BTW the zombie sprite rocks, I can't wait to play your game. ^^

Sure, any sounds will be good, as long as they match pretty well, you know what I mean? Like don't give me Doom 3 sounds then afterwards give me Doom 2 sounds, the quality will be way too off.
I hope you get better Troop, and meanwhile here's a list of the current weapons I need sounds for. The sword The Uzi's Some kind of sound that would fit with the blood vomitting, IE maybe a sound from Blood Omen 2. |

The main character now grunts when he jumps, it varies how he grunts, so you're never bored :D . The zombie moans. The sword swings back and forth. |

He's partly mechanical, every now and then he lets loose a small cloud of smoke from the bottom of his little shredded loincloth thingy. So, he propels himself into the air. What kind of platformer doesn't have jumping? So, I guess I need one of those steam hiss sounds too. |

At the beggining of the game text in blood appears on the screen as he says "Justice is not blind, for I am her eyes" spelling it out, then when its done blood slowly creeps down the screen and turns it completely red, where it fades to the menu.

Actually, making them would be easy. All you gotta do is grab said half of body, and pull it away a little bit at first, etc. Then you add the zombie guts :ok:

The hard part is making the torso fall face down, which is where I have to completely redraw it at a different angle.

Heh, I'll actually change the crotch one two a complete half slice.
I'm not saying it's "impossible" to do a torso mutilation, it just takes awhile. It will definatly NOT take as long as the walk animation took, which took me about 30 minutes for 6 frames. |
In paint, I think you can rotate a picture by such and such degrees.

Cause I'm stupid like that. Total quantity of weapons in the entire game is undecided, but the tech demo will prolly have 5 or 4 (not that much, but to keep you interested in the others). As for the story and characters, I'll be revealing the story ingame, and the characters are going to vary wildly, you'll hardly see a similair NPC in the game. If you look at the character sprites I've shown you'll see it's somewhat cartoony. |
Yeah, I guess total weapons would be hard to count if you counted Environmental weapons, and weapons like furniture or decoration.

I like that screen a lot, but one thing is bugging me. I think that the moon should be a lot bigger. More menacing. Just a thought. It might make things scarier. Another thing might be to add some spooky dead tree silouettes in the background. Mayeb even some fog. But these are just suggestions, you don't have to listen to them. Just a thought is all. :) But I really like how the game looks so far. I think you are doing a great job. I can't wait to play this. :w00t:

Of course, at Nerologic you can get the SNESamp for winamp to play them as you would hear them in your SNES. Now you can check out a SNES music of choice and convert it to midi. |

Right now, you have to press enter to use the gun, control to use the sword. I'm changing it right now so you have to press number keys. It'll work this way. If you press 1 The sword icon will pop out at the side of the screen, to symbolize that you have it equipped, the icon will have a sword and the number you need to press. Press 2 is the same, except for the gun. And so on. |

I really like the game so far :ok:
Points of attention: -My character got stuck a couple of times after I jumped a couple of times, and fired a weapon. It got unstuck when I changed weapons. -The zombies have some difficulties getting out of the crypt. -If I press jump in mid-air there's still a little cloud of dust :P And, errr... The zombies are somewhat slow to react to a bullet. |

Well, the zombies don't react slowly, it takes the bullet time to travel, I can't change this. (Actually I can, the bullet fires as soon as the anim reaches frame 7, making it frame 1 would make it seem sped up).
For the stuck thing, that's unavoidable, it's a animation overload, just try not to smash buttons. The zombies aren't having difficulty getting out of the crypt, I have it set up so that they stay in there for awhile, if you shoot your gun or wave your sword it should attract them towards you (or jumping). They'll come out of their own after awhile. The cloud of "dust" is not dust but steam, he uses propulsion, if you jump in mid air his system can't propel him any higher, so it's a nice effect, that's why every know and then even if he isn't jumping it lets loose some steam. |
So if you just sit on top of the gargoyal and swing forever they will mass under you? :sneaky:

Then if you walk out they'll come out bunched up. The good thing is that if you leave them alone they eventually go in random directions so they aren't bunched up. |

WARNING: It's possible for the game to overload with zombies if there are too many corpses.
Triggers go wild, the zombies start floating in the air, ETC. This is fixed in the next release. |

UPDATE: I've taken into consideration what you guys said and problems that arise.
Animations can now be unstuck by pressing the refresh button (Z) Zombies spawn faster. Zombes corpses no longer last forever, they decompose after a short while. Bullets now travel at appropriate speed. That's all that I have fixed so far. Unfortunatly you guys aren't getting another ver until alpha, haha. *opens Game Maker* naaah... *Alt+F4* Oh, yeah, and see what you can do about collisions. They get weird when jumping on that gargoyle sometimes. Also, if you hit gargoyle with your headwhen jumping and you keep shift pressed you don't fall down. Keep it up. |
UPDATE: I added a way to get ammo, and it isn't pickups.
It's like a buy interface, up where your ammo and weapons are displayed I've added some more icons, the price of a certain item is shown (in this case pistol clips) as you kill things you get cash, you use this cash to buy more ammo, if you get 25 dollars (the price of a clip of ammo) you can click on the icon and you get two more clips. |

Some people mark their shotguns with colors as personalization. At least in the south :bleh: . Well, so far I've only made the graphic, I've yet to give it firepower. |

This version fixes the massing zombie problem, Adds money per kill, Adds the option to buy ammo, And fixes a few small other probs, BleedSamplerV2 You do NOT require the older version of Bleed. |

Okay, I figured out how the shotgun works.
I took Fawful's idea, anything in a close range to you when firing the shotgun is wiped out. |

Heh, the Shotgun death animation is fantastic. The torso is seperated from the legs, it falls down. The leg stands there for a few seconds, then falls down. |

Actually It's going to be one of those things where it tears him up and he steps backwards a few times and falls down, play Fallout on high gore, shoot someone with a automatic and you get the idea.

UPDATE: The shotgun is now complete, all it needs now is ammo.
Considering the insane power of the shotgun, I'm going with 3 rounds per clip and 6 clips max. |

The things that kinda look like candy bars are pistol clips, and the magazine with the rounds next to it is how full the current clip is. The buy icon, and how much cash you have are to the side. |

Energy weapons yeah.
No pistol and Uzi don't use same ammo. It's like this. Heavy weapons that're kinda like the shotgun use same ammo (Rifle, it looks similair and very powerful). Weapons that have single fire and are of moderate strength use same ammo as pistol. And rapid fire weapons that aren't energy will use same as Uzi. And now the shotgun has ammo, so no more infinite fire unfortunatly. |

You should make an item that causes the enemies to go crazy and attack everything, including each other :D Like berserk or confusion. In crusader an inhibitor can do this to servo mechs and battle mechs. But of course, this would require some other form of reasoning... I would put this in the last release you make, because it would probably be damned annoying to figure out. |

One time one was so high up that I had to shoot him. It only happened twice to me though, and that was like leaving the game on for 30 minutes. |

It can kill like 3-6 zombies at once, it's random.
To buy the uzi, once I've implemented weapon buying (after first alpha) it'll be like 200, ammo is 30 (25 for pistol, 40 for Shotgun). Oh, and I finished the pistol and everything to do with it, it's now a complete weapon! Whoopee! |

the game is cool and runs smooth :ok: ..but i found a bug...
if a zombie is getting out of the crypt and you land behind him and he touches you it will throw you "inside" the crypt and you get stuck. i'm waiting for the alpha fix or beta with at least 2 levels :D..and i know that will be in the future..i love the uzi, thanks for adding it and the animations are awesome. :ok: :cheers: |

That bug I'll have to fix somehow, it's probably very annoying (I haven't found it myself). Something I added is that if you sit in the menu for 10 seconds or longer it'll start talking to you. |

It goes away after awhile, by the way, a new and improved interface.
It's now at the bottom of the screen out of the playfield, so it doesn't get overlapped by annoying clouds or such. Oh, and the bug with parts of the ammo and crap dissapearing is now gone. Yeh, I did, and I must say I like it a lot, I think you are doing a great job with your game. I like all the different weapons and I think the Uzi is the best, but the sword is also one of my favorites. BTW could you pm me what you would like the minions and computer thingie to look like so I have something to work with on both. I went back and noticed that you said the computer organic thing must be attached to a wall which i hadn't seen before so I think i messed up on that sprite then but i dunno. But anyway, make sure to pm me with some details on that if you can. Also, in the alpha, I wnated to point out that I got a bug where if you jump on the crypt and jump on the side of the screen on the left you can actually jump off've it. :P
BTW I also have some sounds and music from House of the Dead 2 I could send you if you want it. |

Not over, I mean that you can jump on the side of the bg then jump off've it, like Mario does on buildings. Jumps on the buiding then bounces off've it.

I found it kinda hard cause if you want to get lots of money you have to have lots of zombies. Then once you're surrounded it becomes insane (That's why you have the shotgun tho) |

Notice, the only time you can get hurt is if you're walking or standing still. So it's either use your weapon, (when you're done swinging a sword, and a zombie is still touching you, you'de be hit for that split second you're standing still) or stand on the gargoyle provided. Next alpha you'll have to buy weapons :D . |

maybe you could do a zombie with a cloak or something..not necessarelly massive and that can lift off like the main character and the possibility to shoot you with something..and after you kill him you can get his ammo..or something.

Well it's kinda built into the story.
He isn't MASSIVE per se, he's more like twice the size of the character, think Nemesis from Resident Evil but with far more mechanical features. |

:D There's one bug I still know of and that's the one where you go to the side of the screen and it shoots you upwards. Also does it with the crypt if you use the sword right next to it. Those aren't very problematic tho'. Next release will have something cool. I've thought of implementing this. After killing a good amount of zombies and another enemy I'm adding, like 200 or so, a portal will open that takes you to the zombie boss. I've thought out how it will work. At first he smashes to ground to send shockwaves, he also throws rocks and picks up pillars and tries to smash you under them. After enough damage is done he rips in half, torso following you. At this point, normal weapons will not damage him. You need to do somewhat of a puzzle to get the massive pillars to fall on him and crush him under it. It also have a little bit of the story as a teaser. :blink: |
sounds hard to do...a suggestion:maybe where the boss will be you can put some platforms so if he tries to get to you (he's BIG) you can jump on some platforms to avoid being hit

I've decided no platforms, I'd like the battles to be tough.
There is a way to dodge each of his attacks, so it's pretty easy if you figure out his patterns. Besides, you can jump VERY high. |

I've noticed something: when you jump under the large gargoyle and hold the jump key, you can stay suspended there. If just your shoulder is touching the wing of it, the zombies can't reach you. Perhaps you should make sure not to have any overhanging objects in the zombie boss stage or people will figure out how to use this to get away.
There no longer is a pause option. Also, there is no custom-controls option. Did you change engines or something? I don't have a problem with the controls, but I was hoping to use my controller with it :evil: |

No, I didn't switch the engine, but there will be hotkeys to pause the game or etc. As for the gargoyle thing, I actually hope to make it part of the game, so you can hang off of ledges and such. |

I'm going to release a new fix in the near future. The reason why is because I've realized the game is very slow, zombies don't spawn fast enough. So... remember how they spawned every five seconds? Change that to two seconds :twisted: Prepare to slaughter! :Titan: |

No, the exact limit is 27.
Heh... So after you kill them, you wait for the bodies to decompose (it takes about 30 secs, but it's random at what time they'll go away). They'll start spawning again. |
So it will stop temporarily? If the quantity reaches 27 it will stop until all the corpses are gone right? We don't want any flying zombies :twisted:

You should make them past the rubble there. Then, make it to where the zombies can't get past it, and they stop spawning when you cross it, but start spawning when you come back. Simple enough?

The things in Torment are Vargoyles.
But I think we need to get a original name. Try saying something until a "smooth" name comes out, by that I mean one that sounds right. |
