Indignus IV 06-06-2005 06:21 PM

Here is my question:

What is your favorite city, country and/or place and what would you do there?

For instance:

I would go to Canada because I love wide open wilderness.
As a city, I would go to Rome (even though ive already been there) because I love the culture and the history. I also enjoy excavating ruins.

:bye:

PrejudiceSucks 06-06-2005 06:24 PM

I'm tempted just to ruin this, but I'll humour you.

I would go to Scotland because the people are friendly and the air is clean.
City-wise, I would go to Frankfurt, because it would be great. I could tanze in die Discotek.

Sebatianos 06-06-2005 06:27 PM

The country I'd like to visit the most would have to be Butan (the fact that it's almost completely seperated from the rest of the world...), maybe even Kirghizistan.

As cities go there are many I'd like to (re)visit. Pisa would be on the top of that list, then also Kairo, Bejing, Manaus,...

Indignus IV 06-06-2005 06:29 PM

Yes! My mom has been to scotland a thousand times, but I havent.
I really want to, though. Haggis...... :D

Pisa, Ive been near there, but not in it. What would you want to see in Butan?

A. J. Raffles 06-06-2005 06:30 PM

I'd like to go to England because of the lovely climate. :D Alternatively, I'd go to Armenia, because people there speak the most amazing language. They even have an alphabet of their own.

Edit: Erm, Indignus, do you realise you've just been spamming your own topic?

Indignus IV 06-06-2005 06:31 PM

AJ, where are you from?

Doubler 06-06-2005 06:31 PM

I would really like to visit most mayor cities once.
And I would really want to go back to Prague some day. A single week was much to short a stay. I love that city.

Danny252 06-06-2005 06:40 PM

oh look, seems you just spammed your topic.
again.
anyway, umm... sweden is always good for family (and mcdonalds ;))
city.. ummness.. maybe.. ehh.. dunno..

Data 06-06-2005 06:42 PM

*cleaned up some spamming*

I want to go wherever there are mountains.

PrejudiceSucks 06-06-2005 06:46 PM

Well there are a fair few around. I recommend the Alps.

LOL , yeah it's hard to find any where you live.

Come and visit Italy! We've got many mountains. :P

I'd like to go either to Spain or Corsica, I was planning to visit Croatia this summer but sadly some major organisation problems forced me to renounce.
My fav city is Barcelona, I like Holland and Spain as for countries, and what I would do in those countries goes beyond what's permitted to say here.

Playbahnosh 06-06-2005 06:52 PM

I'd like to go to Canada. There are many Hungarians there, and I'd like to meet with some :D

Doc Adrian 06-06-2005 06:54 PM

I love Norway which is my home away from Home and where my Grandpa comes from.

Citywise...I would like to see London

PrejudiceSucks 06-06-2005 06:56 PM

London's quite good, I've been there several times.

I recommend the zoo there, it's really good, as are the bus tours.

Camden Market is worth a look too.

Havell 06-06-2005 07:03 PM

I'd quite like to go to Berlin, I've been before but only for a few hours, which doesn't cut it for a city like Berlin. Luckily, I'm going on a trip with my Economics class next year :w00t:

Rogue 06-06-2005 07:20 PM

There was a topic like this before....

I like to visit: Egipt, Turkey, Greece, Palestina, Iraq, Iran, Afganistan, Turkistan (should I just write wild cart? *istan), Burma, Thailand, Philipines, India, China, Russia..... Albania, ....

Of course, in no particular order.... :D

Playbahnosh 06-06-2005 07:54 PM

I think this topic is particurarly useless. I'm not saying that traveling is not fun, but there is not much to talk about. Everybody just writes his/her own opinion and that's all...

hm...

Does a volcanic erected island have enough mountains for you? Then you're welcome here.

It becomes hard to find a single road that doesn't go uphill though...

Edit: Oh yeah forgot the main topic.

I'd like to visit either Australia for the wilderness, or the Scandinavian countries (something in the cold there attracts me). Also Italy, Russia and France for cultural reasons.

I'd probably choose Rome, Instabul or Lhasa if I had money to travel.

There are always suggestions...

@Data - you're welcome to Visit Slovenia anytime. We got some Alps and the mountaineering is really popular here, but I'd also suggest Austria - just about every little village in the near of Salzburg is heaven for a mountain lover (unless you want mountain wilderness).

Data 06-06-2005 08:43 PM

@all
thank you all for suggestions.
Austria and swiss are my favorites although I usually ski in france.
I'd love to visit you all.

@lethe be sure to visit paris then for cultural reasons.

Tulac 06-06-2005 08:45 PM

I'd like to visit errrm Pohorje :P...

But seriously I'd like to visit any big metropolis in the world...
I'd definetly want to see playces like Japan, USA, Germany, just to see how other people live, that's interesting for me(and nightlife), and not so much the historycal aspects of countries...

Is there mountain called Vogel or something simillar. I was up there, so nice view. You can see Triglav (if I'm not mistaken) which is highest mountain in SLO.

Playbahnosh 06-06-2005 08:50 PM

I want to see all countries! To know people from around the world... :bye:
I know it's theoretically impossible, but I WILL try! LOL
I like to get to know people from different countires... Like you guys! :D

(like the quote says: You cannot f  all the girls on earth, but you can TRY! :roflol: )

Yes there is a mountain called Vogel and yes it is close to Triglav (nice to know some 'forigners' know a bit about Slovenia). LOL

Well I guess the genreal desire to meet as many people as one can is clearly expresed in this very forum. I mean - if you can't go and talk to people in a certain country, you may join a strong international forum and talk to them (I think this is one of the possitive sides of our little forum). :ok:

Been there. Would go back again anytime. :ok: I actually wouldn't mind moving there, as long as I'd have a window turned to the river.

i want to overland europe again. slovakian alps i think, mmm, need to dig out photo.

Indignus IV 06-06-2005 11:28 PM

Playbanosh is right. The real thrill of abandonia forums is getting to know other people from across the world. Sebatianos, u r a good example. I am in Chicago, you are in Slovenia. You are the only person I know from slovenia. Halfway across the world! You can travel on your own computer. You dont need to go to slovenia to see how the people are, you have Sebatianos!

p.s. dont mean to spam, but Sebatianos, your email address says yahoo.uk. Does that mean you live in the United Kingdom? I thought you were in slovenia.

'foreigners' LOL

Really nice memories from Bohinjska Bistrica and Bled. Two great places for people interested in mountains, such as Data.

This guy was my role model. :) No wonder I like to travel. LOL (should name mine minivan Calypso! ;))

To answer your question, guy with number 4 in your name, Seba is in Slovenia and he just used yahoo.uk to create his email.

Iron_Scarecrow 07-06-2005 05:50 AM

I'm quite happy where I am.

I wouldn't mind seeing New York though.

Puffin 07-06-2005 09:43 AM

I'd like to visit Luzern in Switzerland again.
The Swiss alps are wonderful!!!!!

That city is really beautiful. Didn't have time to stay there for longer last time :(

I also want to see Paris, Copenhagen, Oslo and Rome. Well, any city in Italy would do :D

Data 07-06-2005 09:44 AM

Yes Luzern is very beautiful
A great park they have with al those sculptures and fountains.
Aah the days I've spend there....

I only got chance to go downtown, where the shopping street shaped like U is. But i fell in love with the river that runs through, with the bridge over it :D
Do you remember the name of the river?
Have you been on Mt. Rigi? WONDERFUL!!!!

Rogue 07-06-2005 12:27 PM

Last time I was in Luzern was around 10 years ago. Really nice...

VERTICAL PIG 07-06-2005 01:10 PM

Any ruines like the grate wall or pompeii would be kool to walk around. Also new places no one's been before

Indignus IV 07-06-2005 01:12 PM

You guys are lucky! Especially with the EU now, you can go all over Europe in a single short car trip! I have to sit on a stinking plane for eight hours and three thousand dollars just to get there! I wish I was you guys. :D

In Europe all I've been to is London(twice) Rome, Naples, Sorrento, Pompeii. Thats it. I want to go where you guys want to go

A. J. Raffles 07-06-2005 07:20 PM

Go all over Europe in "a single short car trip"? LOL

Seriously, having been to Europe several times is probably still more than the average American fourteen-year-old could claim, so you're doing fine. No need to rush it.

Doubler 07-06-2005 07:25 PM

Errrm, and Indignus...
You do realise you live right near something most Europeans never get to see? A city the size and proportions of Chicago?
I certainly hope I can visit that city once, amongst others :)

Indignus IV 07-06-2005 07:56 PM

Trust me. You dont want to see it. It sucks. Woopdeedoo, you go up in the Sears Tower for ten minutes. You go to a museum or two. Thats about it. I wouldnt recommend it. What is it you would want to see in Chicago? Nothing much, believe me. It rains 361 days out of the year and its always cold.
Oh, there is one interesting thing: Indignus IV <dont say I'm egotistical, it was a joke> :D

Havell 07-06-2005 07:59 PM

We don't really have cities like the Americans in Europe, London, for example, has one skyscraper (Canary Wharf), and I'd quite like to visit a big city, like New York, Hong Kong or Chicago.

Doubler 07-06-2005 07:59 PM

Life there itself, mainly.
Oh, and I want to go up Sears Tower for ten minutes,
and see a museum or two :D

The nearest city for me to go to, is Leeuwarden. Barely a flat there... Barely a shop there :( .

And if I'd be willing to pay a bunch of money, I could visit Amsterdam, or Groningen.
Well, those cities are fun, though. Can't complain there.

We got some great clubs that open late, and a few pubs that have been used in movies

Lots of theatres if you like plays. The Museum of Science and Industry, Field Museum (with Sue the T Rex), The Shedd Aquariam, Art Institute of Chicago with alot of fine Euro and American paintings (alot of Monet). You can go up to see the Sears tower like Ind says. The Navy Pier is nice, especially on the nights with fireworks and its got rides and shops to see. Two Major baseball teams, a football team, a hockey team, and a basketball team all pros.

and of course its got Ind.

and maybe a Doc or so as well.

Please, you're tormenting me...

Havell 07-06-2005 08:03 PM

I actually consider Chicago to be the proud owner of the tallext skyscraper in the world, most skyscrapers have a big spire on top to artificially raise the height of the building so they can claim the tallest, but the Sears tower actually has the highest habitable floor and so is the proper tallest skyscraper (yes, taller than the the WTC ever was).

Doc Adrian 07-06-2005 08:05 PM

Sorry, didn't mean to flood ya with tourist info :)

I just love it here

Indignus IV 07-06-2005 08:08 PM

Oy. I'm bored to tears. I have been all over Chicago over and over. But if you want to come, have it your way. I'm not going to stop you. Its just that I'm tired of shiny, stainless steel american corporate centers and I want to spend more time in old, elegant, ancient European cities. I go more for the history than the glitz and glamour.

Oh, and Doc, your from Chicago too? Where do you live?

Doubler 07-06-2005 08:08 PM

I'm sure it love it their too...
Maybe if I work all summer, and the year after... Maybe... :w00t:

I've been many times in Chicago, and tell you the truth: there is really not much to see. City it self is huge, dirty, unfinished, partially dying...

Couple things that I’d like to recommend are Museum, Aquarium (or what's called), Science Museum (they had a name for that one too) and planetarium. Other then that, nothing special, except huge amount of unhealthy air, high criminal rate and tons of cars....

Summer is not that cold, actually a lot of old people can't handle summers, as humidity is very high thanks to the lake.

Nice nearby things that you can see: Mackinac Island. (Michigan)

My parents just went on the trip in Europe (and my in laws went to Bosnia). My parents paid $560.00 for ticket to Amsterdam, Holland (I live between Detroit and Chicago), while my in laws paid their $1,300.00 a peace, as they order them 4 days before take off. So no need for 3 grand....

wormpaul 07-06-2005 08:24 PM

 OMG why no Spam???

A. J. Raffles 07-06-2005 08:27 PM

It's called the Oceanarium. I still have a T-shirt from my visit there in, erm, 1992, I think. Chicago itself didn't really leave much of an impression on me, but I thought the Art Institute was rather nice. If you like that sort of thing.

Edit: Removed a capital letter which had managed to sneak in there somehow. Must have come from reading Andersen with his odd habit of capitalising nouns.:)

Indignus IV 07-06-2005 08:28 PM

First of all, Anubis, Indignus travels first class! :D

Also....

I disagree in some respect with Anubis. The air is very clean in the center of the city, and crime rate is extremely low. on the fringes of the city are the ghettos, where crimerate and pollution is high. You, Anubis, are between Chicago and Detroit. That means you came in through Hammond and across the Chicago Skyway. That route is the dirtiest, worst route in. Don't judge a book by its cover, Chicago is quite nice everywhere else, its just that you probably went through the harsh industrial sector. Don't worry, ive been there too and the pollution disgusts me.

Nothing against you, Anubis! :ok:

p.s. I slept over in the aquarium one night during a special school field trip. It was awesome! I got a cool shirt, too. :ok:

Actually I think except of vegetation and sights the world is everywhere the same and
I finally can stay at home as good as traveling somewhere else.

So I think its not Spam :bye:

Rogue 08-06-2005 03:43 AM

#4,
Think what you like to, but Chicago, and for that matter Detroit are nothing to compare to some cities in Europe, such as Frankfurt, Munich (can't make that u with two dots :)), Prague, Vienna, Zagreb, Rome....

I don't say it's not shinny at the night, but over the day its far from nice...

And I spend couple days in Chicago (on one occasion, whole week), and I can't tell that crime rate is low, and air is polluted, just you did not realize that yet. And with your age, I’m not surprised…

And yes, don't judge a city by it's pictures taken at night... (for a reason ;))

Indignus IV 08-06-2005 01:52 PM

I live in Chicago! Of course I know what Chicago is like! But, if you read what I said earlier, you will see that I agree with you ....I hate chicago and want to live in an older, more dignified city such as Rome or London or even Edinburgh. :D

Argith Nuei 08-06-2005 02:42 PM

I,d like to travel to england some day. Visit any small village in the english country. :ok:
The closest I`ve been to england was this one time I was working on the "hurtigrute" (not sure what the english call it, but i seem to remember some tourists reffering to it as the hurtygurty LOL )and we were on a promotional-tour to Lervik.
(or somethin like that)
I was amazed to find that they actually put vinegar on their french fries, whats that all about? Still. I would love to go back there someday, got a lot of cool things that were priced at one-tenth of the ammount I`d have to pay back in norway. Oh yeah. Tokyo! Gotta love those japanese.

Don't think I don't love the European cities, people! I like to be impressed by a city, whether by it's culture or by it's sheer proportion.
I've just been to Prague for a week. Much too short for sure! It's a wonderfull city. The beauty of the old city in contrast of the outer city... I'd want to go back there any day.
