Try the compatibility mode by right clicking on the game.

If it doesn't work, the only thing you can try is Virtual PC (a program that emulates another OS under windows)

The_Toad 23-05-2005 04:06 PM

where can i get the virtual pc program, i tried all the compatability options before i posted

You can find it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx

You must pay if you want the full version (you can download the limited time trial from the site)

thanks, but if anyone can give me a long term relativly free fix on this that would be great, ive searched for ages for this game and now its killing me not being able to play it.

Sorry, i have no more solution.

The only thing you can try is to install Windows 98 in your computer.

Strange, HotU page state that the game is made for DOS while your topic title says you got an error saying that you require Windows.

What exactly was (is) the error message, or what exactly might the problem be?

The_Toad 23-05-2005 04:52 PM

in the dosbox window it gives me the exact message "C:\Power.EXE This Program Requires Microsoft Windows." but if I try to start it outside of dosbox it tells me that its for dos.

:wall:

efthimios 23-05-2005 05:56 PM

What are the other (if any) executables or bat or com files in the folder?

The_Toad 23-05-2005 06:30 PM

the only 3 executables in the folder are Power.exe Setup.exe and TSetup.exe

efthimios 23-05-2005 06:42 PM

You have tried running setup first, right? If so, what does it look like? Is it the same kind of setup of other old DOS games?

samtam90 23-05-2005 06:47 PM

The strange thing is that this game doesn't appear in Dosbox site.

Edit: Mobygames lists it as a DOS game.

The_Toad 23-05-2005 06:47 PM

i get the same message trying to run all 3 executables, it tells me that it requires microsoft windows.
Im begining to hate bill gates more and more everytime i hear the name "Windows"

This game is very obscure. It flopped almost immediatly. I think it was released before its time. Id like to see a remake with a better AI engine and some good 3d graphics. This concept has potential. It doesnt suprise me that it isnt on the dosbox site, nor on any other emulation site ive been to. Most people havent ever heard of nor seen this game.

:help:

I really don't know how to help you....

the only thing you can try is to install Windows 98 in another partition, but in this case you ave to format the PC. Decide what to do.

Don Andy 23-05-2005 09:05 PM

I tried to run the game on Windows XP Home Edition SP1 (power.exe) and it told me to set colors to 256.

So I told it to run at 256 colors in the compability tab and it worked just fine. The Desktop flickers a bit at the intro, but the game seems to run quite OK (Music is WAY too loud though).

You can also try to set the colours to 256 at this Screen property window thingy (don't know it's english name, but you know, that window were you also can set up you screensaver and desktop background and stuff)

If you tried that already, then I don't know any other solution either :/

Flop 23-05-2005 11:54 PM

If you're running xp, be sure to have the service packs installed. I seem to remember that the compatability didn't work properly before sp1.

The_Toad 25-05-2005 01:06 PM

After downloading service pack 1a for windows i get the following error message while trying to run the game.

16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXE.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.

any ideas to what i should do now?
