i think that this game is the best from this big koei game upload. koei almost create complicated strategy games in the good old days. :ok:

wers mag, für den isses dat höchste.

good games at all!

Good god, probably the worst of KOEI games. It looks nice on screenshots, but it's absolutely terrible.

Razer 21-05-2005 01:03 AM

Why do you hate it?

Brut_bg 22-05-2005 08:12 AM

It's a good game, but the best...The AI is not challenge (except the Berlin mission- Hardest diff(Axis)/ France- Hardest(Allies)). But if you have a friend to play with :)
Then you could enjoy the game. (If you are looking for a turn based- WW2 strategy I recommend you Panzer General). :D
p.s.: I'm sorry for the mistakes in my post(s), but my English isn't very good :-)

The unintuitive controls, combined tactics not needed to win, combat is far too simplistic and on top of it all absolutely horrible AI.

LCJr 28-05-2005 08:34 PM

I've only played the SNES version and it was pretty poor. AI wasn't too good, the combat engine seemed to be the same one used in NA and RTK with a few new features tacked on. Worst of all the AI would ALWAYS place it's HQ in the 1st Unit of the 1st Division so one successful Special Ops attack and all their units are without orders.

Doc Adrian 05-06-2005 02:30 AM

I just tried it briefly...I need to try it more I guess so far I have a problem getting into it compared to most KOEI games

Slash78 19-12-2005 05:14 AM

The SNES version of this game was the first strategy game I ever played. Two-player is definately the best way to play.

Always wanted to play the PC version but I'm having problems getting it to work on my machine. What the hell does "Unable to play MIDI-the Maestro FM Synthsizer is in use by another application" mean? Also can't seem to make a boot disk.

Slash78 19-12-2005 08:59 AM

Also getting an ingame "not enough free memory" warning after it asked for mouse or keyboard control. Anyone had this problem and know how to fix it?

Guest 28-02-2006 03:49 AM

I think the sega genesis version is the best. the SNES one has an horrible sound effects in battle

manan_force 06-09-2006 12:20 PM

good game. thank that koei was born to do strategy games. :w00t:
all of you said strategy is simple and easy. think this way. it is 12 years old game.

Anyone knows were can I download the manual? I ve been looking for it but without positive results....
Thank you!

The Fifth Horseman 08-10-2007 11:18 AM

Try www.replacementdocs.com

Guest 21-10-2007 10:38 PM

Thank you, horseman. I took a look at the page and the manual is being aproved. When I played the DOS version, I also got the same msg: not enough free momry, but I tried it in another computer and worked perfectly, I don´t know why....

if you run via windows, right click the excutable and in properties, memory tab select automatic for ems and xms memory

Abandoned Witch 10-05-2011 10:32 AM

One of my favorites. That game was my first step in strategy games.

something awful 10-09-2013 08:17 AM

So, according to wikipedia, the axis powers have rockets in the storming of normandy. Anybody know how to do that?

Just made a donation and downloaded Operation Europe, but it is just a list of 36 files. the .exe files when opened just say they made an illegal operation and have to close. How do I open it?

arete 05-06-2016 08:01 AM

You need to get a dos emulator like Dosbox. The exe files won't run on modern windows. Once you've installed dosbox, put a shortcut to it in the game folder, then drag and drop the main exe file onto it. That should run the game.

Downloaded dosbox.74 shortcut on desktop. dragged the shortcut over to the Europe file and now there is a file Dosbox .74 in list of Operation Europe. Dragging main.exe over to dosbox has no effect. What is next?

OK, got it to work, but the screen is tiny and is there a manual?

arete 05-06-2016 05:54 PM

Use Alt-Enter to go to full screen and back. If we haven't got a manual you might try googling the game and looking on other sites. I don't know if replacementdocs is still a good source.

EDIT we do have the manual; look on the game page. It's under the link to this forum thread. "Discuss this game here".

Thanks man, I am getting there! I have everything figured out except the controls for the individual battles. The manual is the one from SNES, so it wont tell me how to play on my laptop. Anyone know how to control game in a battle?

I have yet to meet a better strategy game when played 2 player! I have everything figured out except how to control the battle on the small screen. How does that work?

arete 06-06-2016 11:55 AM

Sorry, I've never played the game myself.
