Moonstone
Hehe used to play this game alot on the amiga, alongside with "Cyber Empires" aka "Steel Empire"
Deff one of my favorite games back then. |
Yay... just played it throu... damn.. it brings back ALOT of memories... it's one of the games i BOUGHT for my Amiga 500 back when it was released in 92-93'ish.. (can't remember when i bought it)
And it took 30-40 mins to finish as usual.. ;) SPOILER: The trick is to just finish the dragon off.. and man.. the dragon is one of the easiest creatures to kill once you get hold of a claymor.. Just lure it into steaching it's neck down, chop it with an over-head blow, and move towards it, and back again.. repeat until dead ;) Muhahaha |
i used to play this game on the amiga way back as well. The disks were screwed tho so you could never finish the game. i never thought id play this game again but by god ill finsh this son of a bitch this time
Muiltplayer is the absolute best tho i used to paly 3 palyer with my 2 brothers and always lost :( lol its been so long that i dont remember is the only way to play multiplayer with one computer or can u do it over networks? fantastic fucking game well done tom for posting it you are a ledgend |
man i never realised how censored this bord was, "son of a femal dog"
jesus |
Quote:
Sorry  (I hate the sencorships as much as anyone). |
I don't think censorship is that bad, since there are sometimes people too, that just would love to go on with all that **** and **** words if allowed. Especially when there are even more people visiting the site.
|
Gentlemen, may I ask for your help?
I CAN'T RUN the game. After the introduction finishes, the program crashes back to windows, no messages displayed. Couls anyone help me? What am I supposed to do? I run WinXP in a P4 with 512mb ram Thank you in advance. |
You should always try to run old games in DOSbox before doing anything else. This program is the best program out there for playing such games.
You can download it from our main site. :) |
Thanks for the hint,
I did download it, but I am ehmmmm,,,, unable to understand how to use the dosbox............. any help? Thank you |
|
Basicly...
If you have the game installed (unzipped) in C:\Games\Moon\ comman-line looks like this: "c:\[wherever_dosbox_is]dosbox.exe c:\Games\Moon" A window pops up, saying "C:\" at it's last line... This is the "Moon" directory.. Now just execute the main program (MS.exe) and the game starts running.. Now there is other variables so "c:\[wherever_dosbox_is]dosbox.exe c:\Games\Moon".. read the readme.txt for them is DosBox.. ENJOY! |
Exscuse me! But is there anyone that can tell me how to defend attacks? Or can give a kind of "Manual" of controls?
Thanks very much and improve my english ;) Congratulation for the site! It's wonderful!!! |
You can parry attacks when you press fire+back (from the direction of your enemy).
|
Quote:
Manual... of.... controls.... :x DAMN! They will be up, in 5 minutes! |
Umm... Expect it as soon as I have found it in one of my two laptops
|
Good thing we have so many new people drop by and get Tom doing things or else he'd forget.
|
Hehe...
But there is an unused topic in the Request part, where you people can help me remember. It's just that no-one has bothered writing something there... except for Danny252 who just gave me some lip :P |
 So I need to wait that you found them? OK! ;) No Problem ! :D thanks!
|
This game is best when played with a bunch of friends I think. there's nothign more fun than letting your friend get hold of the moonstoen only to bumrush him and chop him to bits before going ot win the game yourself. The rivalry in this game was the best part.
|
Ok.... Clumsy me has managed to loose the file with the controls.
Could the person who sent them to me ages ago, please sent it again? |
So what to do when you have defeated the arena, and got hold of the moonstone?
never did get this far, since the game i had was buggy, and crashed when i next time viewed my backpack with the moonstone in it. |
When you have the moonstone, all you have to do is just wait for the right day to appear, then the end-video appears end the game ends.
|
Could I get some help? When I try to start the game it wants me to put diskA in drive and press fire. (???)
Sounds simple but I really don't know what I should do. |
Played it in DosBox, available on this site? ;)
|
YES! It works! I guess DosBox did it's job again :ok:
|
I need some help... I found out how to get soundblaster soundeffects by editing the moon.cfg file, but how do I get music :music: ? (using dosbox)
|
I'm not exactly sure now, but it should be set to Adlib, if I'm right there... ;)
|
I use adblib.
|
Last time I played Moonstone was on WinUAE. It has better Music, I think. Does the PC Version support digital sound effects?
I had some problems while emulating it on the Amiga. When I kiled the dragon for example and took a key valley, i had all 4 in my inventory shown on the wrong position. This caused the Amiga to make a Guru Meditation (blue screen of death on Amiga). Ar there similar bugs, when I emulate it on dosbox? c ya gdp2000 |
I never played it much, so I never got to the dragon. But the time I played it, I didn't encounter any bugs.
But it would be nice to know for sure. So try it, and tell what you find out. That would be great! :ok: |
can anyone please give me a description of the scrolls and what they do
|
Description:

I have another question about that game...Does it have an Extro ? I just finished the Guardian in the Valley, got the New Moonstone and now ? Was that everything ? Or what do i have to do with the Stone ? :Titan:
|
You have to return the moonstones to moonstone. I can remember that the right moonphase is necessary.
There'll be the extro. Did you play it on DosBox? Did you encounter any problems? c ya gdp2k |
The easiest way to use DOSbox would be to simply drag the game file into the open DOSbox window :ok:
|
|
|
great site!! :ok:
I played moonstone last time on the amiga emulator, and it was a great version because it had a bug wich alowed you to sacrifise daggers for lives.. LOL |
In the dos version you have to click on your character values to get a life in moonstone...
c ya gdp2k |
I got a problem. I run the game fine, but no buttons seems to respond. And the intro goes on until the insert disc A appears and nothing happens. I run it in dosbox yes. and I also dont have sound.
Windows XP here. |
Hello...Does anyone know why the game crashes while encountering dragon with yellow knight…I also have to re”mount” my drive again…and that sucks!!!....... plz help…
I have windows XP |
i used to play this game on my amiga and i love it.
but i can't get it to work and i don't know how to make it work i just get to the point were it says you have to put in disc A and i can't get on. does anyone know what to do? |
Are you trying to play the game in Windows XP?
|
man, what a game...
i remember playing it on my atari st, and i thought of the game a few times since then but couldn't remember the name... then i saw the screenshots, and boy was i happy could someone just list the keys and the uses of the scrolls btw since i don't know where else to say it: THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE BEST SITE EVER |
Thanks.
You attack using combinations of the cursor keys and the Enter key :ok: |
yes i tried it in windows xp

When I play, it says, please insert disk A....... what the hell?
|
Could we please have some more information?
What system are you playing the game on, and so on? |
Just came across this game...looks like my kind of game. Short, replayable, a touch of rpg and arcade. I love games with overhead maps. =) I wonder why I've never heard of this game before.
Anyway, can anyone give some pointers here? I assume I have to master parrying as right now my strategy to go all out and hack opponents is't doing the trick. So I press back and hit my return button? (Actually I'm using the joystick and buttons). As for making money, do you get any money win defeating other nights? Is there a way to loot them? I tried the dice game but didn't win once in 5 tries so I'm out of coins. Also when entering a lair, I saw a chest but I couldn't live through the multiple monster attacks so I have yet to see what rewards I get. So basically get money by kiling things, improve you level and visit towns to heal and buy stuff? Just want to make sure I get the routine down. |
You loot ;)
I never parry. The best strategy for me is to attack, then move out of the way. :ok: (Learn the attack pattern of your enemies). |
I played in dosbox but the game not work after main menu screen( choice how many player etc). cursor can't go down to play the game....
help me please..... (i used win xp pro amd prosesor) |
I am experiencing the "Insert Disc A" problem too. The intro runs as it should, then I get the "Insert Disc" screen, and it says "press fire", and no key is going to make anything happen... (I'm pretty sure that one of the following was used as the "fire" button: Enter, Spacebar or Right Shift)
I'm trying to run the game using VDM Sound on a Win XP system. |
Try using DOSBox.
I have WinXP as well, and I played through the game (and updated it to the site). Worked for me. |
I voted this game as a best amiga game ever.
I got this disk error, When i just put all the files in one folder. Try to use "Check-out" thing. |
:ranting: When I try to start the game is stands "insert disk a and press fire" but what the **** is fire? :ranting:
|
:ranting: When I start the game I get a message that says "Insert Disk A an then press fire" what the ***** is fire!!!!! :ranting:
|
Try pushing every button available.
|
this game is the greatest game I ever seen.
:sniper: :tom |
You're welcome.
|
I need help.
When I die, I go to the inventory, and I don't know how to exit it... :help: |
If I remember correctly, you need to move the sword cursor either to the middle between the two "gates" and klick there or to the very edge of them either left or right and klick there. Either way, I hope it helps ;)
|
get your self d fend - the handy dandy frontend for dosbox, it rules, period, jus make sure u get the right version o d fend for your version o dosbox.
joy of joys im playin moonstone again :D site rules as you guys know, amazingly enuff it seems that i aint being spared the weird bug syndrome as with evry copy o moonstone i have ever played in the past. sometimes the darn dragon attacks me 3 times in a row, on the 3rd time it crashes out on me, anyone else had this problem, mb its my d fend config , god knows :eeeeeh: |

I just love this game....i miss it so much..use to play it on my long gone Amiga600....i really love this game... :\ *sigh* |
:Titan: At last the Knights of the moonstone embark once more on their quest for immortality... The dragons treasure will be mine in due time... The black knights shall fall under my blade... And I will be renown as the supreme immortal being, a star on the sky, and a god amongst men...
 Cheers everyone! Moonstones back! Were there made any changes to the pc version of the game? Until recently I had only tried the amiga version. :bleh: |
less bugs.
|
I THINK IS A FUN GAME YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN RIGHT? BUT I CANT MAKE IT WORK *** the rest of this post has been erased due to insulting content - strobe
|
How do you throw knives?
|
Press Up + Forward ;)
|
Due to the whole discussion 'bout moonstone, I'm an old fan as well... And I've tried to make the game work ever since I came to knowlegde about the option of playin' it again... but nothing I've tried has worked... neither DOSBox nor any other program... DOSBox simply won't start up the game, as described in; "newbies manual"... And windows can start the intro, but thereafter I'm experiencing the same problem as many others, "insert disk a and press fire"...
So please help... The despair will soon get the upper hand, if not succes will be achieved! I REALLY loved that game, an' I wanna play it again!! |
Hi !
I'm not english or american so excuse me for my poor words... I have a question : How can I download this game ? Is it free or not ? I don't understand the ESA site. Thank you |
ESA is an organization protecting the copyrights of game makers.
If a game is ESA protected it is not legal to download it. This game can not be downloaded. |
Thank you Sebastianos :ok:
I saw everyone here explain that they were pleased to play with this game today so I thought it was possible to download this game here or in an other site. Where can I buy it ? If someone has a good news for me, please write it to my mail : seajaws@free.fr Thank you. :bye: |
It was free to download here until the people from the ESA came. Here's what happened:
While Kosta was admiring his site some people came to his house and said: "Kosta? ESA. Come with us. We'd like to go over some of your records with you... upstairs." They tied him to a bed and wouldn't let him free until he agreed to protect the games that weren't classed as abandonware. Heck of a story eh? |
It's stupid !
The game is not sold anymore so why they don't let it be downloaded ???? :tai: |
It's their reason. If you put blood sweat and tears into a retail game you would want everybody loading it for free, right?
|
That's strange...
I'm ok to download it for free, but I can't do it now. I'm ok to buy it, but I can't do it cause it's not sold anywhere. Well, what can I do in order to play this game ? |
This Game Rules!!!Hey who killed the dragoon because always when i have three keys he atacks me and kills me and i end the game. Can the dragoon be killed???
|
the authors are chuffed that people used to download this game ie: the two guys who coded the game and hand drew the graphics. unfortuantly when you get a game published you lose copywrite to the game. this is one of those games where i dont accept this argument

I really want to play this game, but I don`t understand the controls. PLease help. |
Use combinations of Enter and the cursor keys :)
|
Press either Enter + direction keys to attack in different manners or on joypad the button for attack + steering cross.
|
Thank you!
But what abaut throwing knifes? |

That is, only if you have them. If not, nothing to throw *g* |
Btw, you can cheat the driuds at Stonehenge. They tell you, that they want magical items for life. But you can give them those daggers for new life :D
|
Thank you- :D
|
how do i download the game? And do you guys know where to find The Lost Patrol ? Games not availible for WinUAE ?
|
You don't download the game. ESA permits that, as visible on the button where download button is else supposed to be, so it's illegal to download it somewhere else, and you'll have troubles finding the game for download.
|
Where can i get a working copy of moonstone?? i've spent hours playing the game back in the day on my amiga only to have it crash the moment i set eyes on a moonstone! it's been hanging over my head for years and i need to lay it to rest!!! please help!
|
If I remember correctly, there was a problem with the amiga version of the game, so a lot of people never got to see the ending.
anyway, HOTU has a pc version available for download, which I believe is sanctioned by the ESA. I don't know if it works, though, but I'm guessing it does. |
Do anybody know how i can start play?? I start play and i must get disk a... how i can do this?? I want play it but i dont know hw start :(
|
Extract the files instead of moving them into same folder.
|

Hi guys/gals,
Few more words from me: - you need 1 moonstone to finish the game, - to finish the game you have to kill the final boss, and completely destroy all the spots with monsters (one more time - ALL of them), - not only the upper attack works on the final boss - my final blow was the slash, it took me about 7 hits to kill her (4 upper ones, and slashes). The boss was one of the easiest monsters to kill. I had 5 points in strenght and 5 in Constitution, 3 Talismans of the Wyrm (its accumulate), and 3 Rings of Protection. Remember! "If you go to your home village and you have less then 3 life points, then your village druids will heal you for free" If you have more questions about the game, check out this site: http://www.dungeony.cz/hoborg/amiga/...one_manual.htm Its not mine (i mean the website) so I do not know how long the site will stay on a sever, make a copy of it or something... Have a good hunting ! |
This is XP compatible but I can't play it? Also, I have tried to download a useable DOXBox... but no go? HELP!!!
|
Hi
To the creator(s) of this site you PWN! that said. i love moonstone it is 1 of the best games i played it a cupple of times when it was new and later (when the 350mhz computers was new) i was chasing the game and has been ever since for pc and a pc that was compatible well 2 years ago i finnaly got my hands on a computer able to play it (70mb hdd in total ^^) then i stumble upon your site beacuse 1 of my friends and me were discussing if dune:2 was the first rts or if it was UTOPIA did not kknow that game (then) so he gave me the link to your site and people i gotta say you did a amezing job ^^ btw you can kill the dragon without having to move around all the time just get between his leggs and he will constantly try and eat you well just hold fire+up to me that upper chop? well you know what i mean and you can kill him easy as that once again thanks for a great site ^^ |
Can i get a copy of this off someone please!!
|
how do i down load it???
|
Hey just look at this stie http://www.moonstonetavern.co.uk they are makeing a remake
|
I have played both the amiga and PC version (i OWNED the pc version wiht box, manual, map and disks about 10 years ago, i hear its worth alot of money in germany now :(
the amiga version (i am running right now im WinUAE) has better sound, music, is slightly harder, and mythril the mystic actually does something. the pc version is a bit easier, but the lairs have more monsters. the buttons, for all those out there, are as follows 'FIRE (enter)' plus: up arrow -Strong overhead chop, does most damage but its slow forward arrow(towards opponent) - quick slash, fast and medium power. good for finishing guys off Down arrow - This will parry an overhead chop from the other knights and the axe/hammer guys and the jab from spears (not the big blue trolls though) back arrow(away from opponent)- reverse chop, weak but sometimes useful up+forward - upper thrust. good for dragon and balloks (big jumping guys in NE section) Down+forward - Jab. longest range attack, use on spear men. second spearman wont come until the bleeding stops :D down+back - Block. Blocks the Slash of other knights and of the hammer/axe trollocks. back+ up - Dagger throw. great to stop enemies and finish guys off. specials - press down and fire on the ratmen (in forest) to stab them in the head/in the tree. also down and fire when the mudmen have you in their hand. |
sorry that last one was so long...
to finish the game, you have to go to stonehenge (in the forest) when the moon is right, this will give you the finale! in the pc version, dont bother visiting mythril - he doesnt really work. to exit your inventory, press fire (enter?) when the cursor is OVER one of the white pillars In the PC version (maybe amiga) sometimes when a new day starts, or you beat a lair, the screen will be black. press SPACE to go to your inventory, and then exit and the map should re-appear! the dragon can be killed with any sword, just takes time with shortsword. you can get in a position where, when he lowers his head to breathe fire you can hit him with overhead chop just in time. we used to call it the 'death roll'. just keep doing overhead chop and you cant lose! to force the dragon to fight you (he usually has sword of sharpness) in PC (maybe amiga?) version, when its your turn press SPACE then exit. do this as many times as you need to eventually the dragon will pick you as a target. Thats about it, i have finished this game probably 100 times ask me anything :D |
You're actually wrong, that Mythril gives sometimes some bonuses, but sometimes he's in bad mood and turns you into a frog where you can't enter lairs (if I remember correctly) and are beaten automatically by enemy players if they encounter you, losing a life and probably some items (they like to steal good stuff).
|
Im talking about the guy at waterdeep in the bottom corner, not the magician (MATH) in the tower in the wastelands.
he often has errors in my pc versions as well, where every item in the game is listed down the screen in no apparent order. these are just my experiences, some versions/systems might play the game perfectly. as for 'mythril the mystic', on the PC version i have played the only responses you could get from him where 'My powers are weak right now and i cannot reach into the cosmos' or, in the top left hand corner of the screen the letters AMAAG would appear and again, nothing would happen. AMAAG has become a running joke with my friends and i when we want to annoy each other :D anyway, dont let these common errors turn you off, its a *GREAT* game...i play it still when i am in the mood |
why when you want to download it says no go because its esa protected how?
ive checked who the members are and mindscape arnt one  im only sayin this cause i want to play it again  |
Yeah, the Oldwarez list says it is Abandonware, but the company is ESA protected.
If you have solid evidence that the game is fit for download, please give it so that someone can sort it out. |
well i dont but some1 else must surely? :help:
:wall: :wall: :wall: :sniper: :Titan: He he boom |
try the moonstone tavern?
last time i was there they had both versions... the guy who runs the site posted earlier in the forum have a look through for the link to his site. |
ok thanx
 :sniper: :wall: |
ok, i have a tiny problem.... i dont know what the attack key is, im led to believe that the Right CTRL key is one? however, i have a laptop and its not equipped with that particular key...
any ideas |
I think it was Enter or Return.
|
Yes enter should see you right. cant remember the commands for the second player in the pc version though :P i think tab may have been the attack button
|
where can i download it? on the reviewpage, its not possible :help:
|
This game is protected by the ESA, I'm afraid you can't download it from this site. Your only real hope is to find it on eBay or soemthing. You could try e-mailing the ESA or the copyright holders (not sure who they are for this game), your chances of success are somewhat low, however.
|

Follow the on screen instructions to configure Moonstone for your PC. Playing Moonstone from Floppy Disks Log into your A: drive and type 'MS' [enter] Moonstone requires at least 620k of Free Base Memory. You may have to adjust your CONFIG. SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT to free up enough memory. We strongly recommend that you set up a Disk Cache when playing Moonstone. For further information refer to your MSDOS user guide. Additional note for Soundblaster users In order to play Soundblaster sounds you may need to set up your Soundblaster in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. The default setting is as follows: SET BLASTER=A220 17 Dl T4 If this does not activate sounds when playing Moonstone, then your Soundblaster is not at it's default settings. Consult your Soundblaster manual to set it up correctly. You will also need to set up expanded memory in order to hear Soundblaster samples. Using EMM386 or another Memory Manager set up at least 400k of expanded memory. This area of memory is used to store all the samples used in the game. THE HISTORY OF THE QUEST A very sacred time is upon the people. A time that descends once every thousand years. As the Druids will be only too happy to tell you, this is the season of the Moonstones! Danu, the spirit of the moon, has turned his attention away from the activities of the cosmos to those of the earth. It is during such a time that the Gods bestow a fabulous gift to the greatest warrior in the land; a gift of ultimate power! But first such a warrior would have to prove himself. Thus, the first warrior to complete "The Quest of the Moonstones" will rece;ve this great blessing. But any warrior considering such a quest must be prepared to wander the surrounding land, enduring many hardships, risking life and limb all the while. The land comprises four vast territories. To the northeast are the Northern Wastelands, home to giant Baloks that inhabit this great rocky territory. To the northwest are the Misty Moors, with their great tribes of vicious Troggs. Southwest lies the Great Forest, infested with the cunning Ratmen. And finally to the southeast you will discover the Wetlands, where half plant, half humanoid Mudmen stalk human prey inside their vast swamp. Over all these territories the Great Dragon roams high in the sky, searching like a hawk for the next traveller to eat or plunder. Hidden deep in the middle of the four territories, at the very heart of the land, lies the most sacred of places, "The Valley of the Gods", wherein can be found the sacred Moonstones. To complete the quest, you will have to assume the arms and armour of a knight. Then you must explore all the lands that surround you to find the four keys which will give you access into the Valley of the Gods. Along the way you will have to defeat many creatures and retain their gold and magic treasures to increase your strength so that you might survive the perils of the shadowy half world that lies within. Once the keys are found, you will then make your way to the Valley to find the sacred Moonstone, fighting horrible demons of immense power and strength. Once a Moonstone is acquired, you must then race to Stonehenge to present the fruit of your quest to the great Moon God, Danu. However, there are four possible Moonstones that are each keyed to a different phase of the moon, so you will have to wait for the right moon phase before you may complete your quest. But wait! Did you think you would be alone in the quest? Of course not! All the great knights of the land know of this most sacred of events. So there will be other great warriors looking to be the first to complete the quest. You will certainly have to do battle with many mighty warriors before your quest is done. Moreover, you are bound to encounter the dreaded Black Knights, who wander the land trying to convince any who will listen that the Druids are heretics, slaying any who do not. They particularly hate the quest of the Moonstones and will track down any who participate, especially if they are close to completing the quest! These knights are renowned for their ability to raise their skills during combat. They are never beaten until they are slain! After long, careful thought you decide to surrender to the fates and the strength of your metal. Donning your warmest clothing and grabbing your trusty sword and armour you set off, swearing to be the first to complete the quest or to die trying: for none can resist the pull of the Moonstones. KNIGHT'S STATISTICS Strength, Endurance, and Constitution The knight's abilities describe what you can do physically in the game in terms of numbers. Strength is a measure of how strong you are in combat. The more strength a knight has, the more damage you will inflict upon your opponents. Constitution is a measure of how much physical punishment a knight can withstand before you collapse. The higher your constitution, the more damage you can take before losing a battle. Endurance is a measure of how much physical activity a knight may endure before you become exhausted and must rest. The higher your endurance, the further you can move in a day. A knight's abilities can be temporarily raised by various normal and magical items. They can also be raised permanently by a magical gift from either the wizard Math, or by the Mystic. You can also permanently raise your abilities through "experience". Experience Experience is earned by successfully conquering a lair. 1 point of experience is earned for each lair that is cleared. 2 points are earned if the Dragon is slain. 3 points are earned when the Guardian is defeated. In a 3 or 4 player game, for each point of experience earned, either strength, endurance, or constitution can be raised by one point (at the knight's choice). In a two player game 2 experience points are required and in a one player game, 3 points. Life Points Life points are a measure of how close to death a knight has become, due to injuries sustained during combat. Each knight starts the game with 5 life points and every time you lose a combat, a life point is lost. When you are reduced to 0 life points, you are dead and and for you the quest is over. There are many ways to raise your life points. You can pay a healer in the cities. A potion of healing will raise life points. If you go to your home village and you have less than 3 life points, then your village druids will heal you for free. The last possible way of raising life points is to offer a magic item to Danu at Stonehenge. Life points are divided up into hit points. If during combat your current hit points are reduced to 0, then you will lose the combat and a life point. Hit points can be healed at the healer or through healing potions. Knights also heal naturally each day that is passed. The Phases of the Moon The phases of the moon are the key to the success of your quest. Once the cycle of the moon matches your moonstone you must reach Stonehenge to fulfil your quest before the cycle changes. Only then will you successfully complete the quest. As a knight with such a Moonstone in your possession, you can be sure that the other knights will stop at nothing to destroy you. Throughout the game, the phases of the moon will change constantly. This affects the strength of some of the creatures and is key to the powers contained in the Moonstone. After each knight has had three turns (each knight gets one turn per day), the moon advances one phase. The order of the phases are as follows: Full / Three Quarters / Half / One Quarter / New / One Quarter / Half / Three Quarters / Full... Movement Your position on the map is shown by an icon. Move the joystick in the direction that you wish to move. When you come in contact with another icon, that icon will start to glow. At this point you may choose to encounter that icon by pressing the fire button. Forests, mountains and swamps slow your movement down considerably and increase your chance of encountering wandering monsters outside of their lairs. During your turn you have these keyboard options. SPACE BAR- Displays current knight's inventory. E - Ends your turn early so you may rest and recuperate your hit points. ENCOUNTERS Lairs In each territory there are six lairs to be explored. Each lair is filled with a certain number of monsters that must be defeated in order to acquire their treasure. Only one lair in each region contains one of the four keys required to enter the Valley of the Gods. Once a knight acquires the treasure from a lair, you are awarded an additional experience point . The City of Highwood Located within the misty moors, where the high circle of the Druids resides, is the seat of religious power. The great druids are very secretive and don't generally deal with outsiders. One exception is that they trade artifacts of a magical nature for religious research in the High Temple. To discover the cost of an item, move your pointer over its icon and the the value will be displayed at the top of the screen. The City of Waterdeep Located within the wetlands you will find the home of Mythral the mystic . He is renowned for his ability to lift a knight's soul to a higher cosmic plane . When your soul is returned to your body, you will find that your abilities have been either raised or lowered by 1 point. It is a gamble you must take if you put your trust in Mythral. You may increase your odds with Mythral by donating more gold. A minimum of 10 gold pieces should be donated to improve your chances. Within the walls of both Highwood and Waterdeep, you will find many interesting characters. Healers, Inn-keepers and Merchants. Some of these should be of more than academic interest; the potions and weapons they will sell you will save your life! Healers The healer charges 10 gold pieces to heal a knight to full hit points and 15 gold pieces for each life point. You must be at full hit point status before the healer can heal life points. Taverns A popular game played in the taverns is 'Dragon Dice'. The game is run by a Dragon Dice Master and is played by placing a bet ( ranging from 1 to 5 gold pieces) before rolling 3 "Dragon Dice". If one of the following combinations is rolled, in any order, then the corresponding payback ratio is won: SEE DICE.TIF for a Diagram of the Dragon Dice dividends. Merchants Merchants sell armour and weapons. The prices are as follows: Throwing Dagger. ... 2 gp Broad Sword......... 10 gp Claymore Sword...... 25 gp Chainmail Armour.... 30 gp Platemail Armour.... 50 gp Battleplate Armour.. 75 gp Villages Each knight has his own home village from which you start at the beginning of the quest. No other knight may enter your home village under any circumstance. If, when you return wounded to your village, you have less than 3 life points your senior village druid will heal you to full hit points and grant you a free life point. This kind gift is only granted 3 times throughout the course of the Quest. Wizard's Tower The mighty wizard Math, the most powerful mage in the land, resides in his desolate tower in the northern wasteland. If he is pleased to see you he will bestow upon you either a magic item, money, or choose to raise either your strength, constitution, or endurance by one point. If he is annoyed by your insolence however, he will turn you into a toad for a number of turns. The more often you visit him, the more likely he is to become annoyed. Stonehenge This is a very sacred location, second only to the Valley of the Gods. This is where the channels to the gods are most strongly felt. The first knight to present a Moonstone during the correct phase of the moon will have proven himself to be the greatest warrior in the land and will be lifted up to the heavens to sit by the gods for time immemorial. Stonehenge can also be used for healing purposes. If a knight offers a magic object, you will be healed to full hit points and receive 1 life point. Other Players and Black knights You may challenge other knights to battle by moving onto them. To the victor goes the spoils, and the loser edges ever closer to death and failure in the quest. The victor may take either all the losers gold pieces or one object . If, however, the winner takes the last life point from the loser, then the winner gets all the loser's gold, objects, and magic objects. Valley of the Gods Once you have collected all 4 keys and you feel strong enough to endure the wrath of the Guardian, you may then enter the Valley of the Gods located in the centre of the 4 territories. If you defeat the Guardian in battle, you will be granted a Moonstone. While you remain within the Valley, you are untouchable by other knights. MONSTERS Troggs The Troggs are a terrible humanoid race that exist in all four territories. They are highly intelligent with a society very similar to humans, whom they hate with a burning desire for forcing them to live in places deemed unfit for humans. They use hammers, axes and spears in combat and have terrible war beasts that they've raised on human flesh. The tribes that exists in the Misty Moors are exceptionally vicious and renowned for their strength and skill in combat. Ratmen The ratmen are a small, carnivorous race that exist in the trees of the Great Forest. They are not very strong, but are always found together in large numbers and are exceedingly agile. They are often referred to as "Moon Devils" because they seem to grow stronger as the moon waxes. It is also known that these little creatures carry a deadly disease and if you are bitten by one of them you must be quickly healed by the healer or drink a healing potion, or you will surely perish and fail in your quest. Mudmen This strange race that infests the Wetlands seems more like a colony of intelligent plant life found in the mud than an actual animal, but sages say more research is needed. They are hard to see as they just appear to rise out of the mud, overpower a knight and drag him down into the mud to do unspeakable thinqs to him. Dragons Dragons are huge, flying, fire breathing lizards. They are cruel and greedy by nature and fly around the four territories looking for the next traveller to slay and plunder. Dragons are exceedingly dangerous in combat and difficult to slay. If a dragon defeats a knight, he will take all his gold pieces and one magic object (unless he reduces that knight to 0 lives; then he will take everything). However, whoever slays a dragon will take over it's accumulated wealth and magic objects. Baloks Baloks are vicious humanoids with huge jaws, long teeth and powerful limbs. Legend has it that Math magically engineered these beasts in his youth to act as guards for his tower, but the experiment failed and they have since escaped and multiplied. They now stalk the northern wastelands in search of prey and are one of the most feared of creatures. Trolls Trolls are vicious creatures that feed on human flesh. They are large, hairless humanoids that fight with huge clubs capable of striking down the mightiest warrior with one blow. These legendary creatures are greatly feared throughout the land. Black Knights These rogue knights serve a religious sect called 'The Dark Hall of Purity' that believes the druids are blasphemous and must be stopped. They wander the four territories searching for followers of the druids who are trying to acquire the Moonstones, in order to prevent them from completing their quests. The Black Knights have an uncanny ability to grow more skilled in combat and strength during an encounter. Guardians The Valley of the Gods is guarded by sinister demons. Only the best warriors in the land will ever stand a chance against a guardian. They can drain points from a warrior's abilities and when they defeat you in combat, they take 3 lives instead of 1. It is essential that you must possess the best armour before you join battle with a guardian, or else it will be a short extremely one-sided battle. MAGIC ITEMS To invoke a magic item, bring up the inventory screen of the knight by hitting the "SPACE BAR". Then, using the joystick move the dagger pointer over the magic item you want to select and press the fire button. Potions, scrolls, and gems (except the Moonstones) disappear after one use. Other magic objects have unlimited uses. Each magic item has its own market value determined by the druids in the High Temple in High Wood. Potion of Healing This will heal a knight to full hit points or, if he is already at full hit points, add 1 additional life point. Gem of Seeing By using this magic item, you may look within a lair and see what treasure exists there. Upon invoking the gem of seeing you will return to the region map but your icon will appear as a crystal ball. To view the contents of a lair move the crystal ball over top of the lair and press the fire button. Sword of Sharpness This magical sword does even more damage than a claymore sword. Ring of Protection This magical ring increases the amount of damage you can take in a combat. Upon taking this item you will see your hit points increase. Talisman of the Wyrm This magical cross will reduce the damage from dragons by half. This effect accumulates so the more crosses you possess, the less damage you suffer. A knight should be sure to possess this item before doing battle with the Dragon. Scroll of Haste When this scroll is invoked it will allow you to move twice as far as you normally could in one day. If cursed with a disease, you will only travel half your normal distance. Scroll of Acquisition This magical scroll will allow you to take one object from another knight. Upon invoking the scroll you will see the inventory of the other knights on the right side of the screen. To select a different knight move the pointer over top of the arrows in the centre strip and press the fire button. This enables you to rotate through the knights. When you see the knight you wish to plunder, move the pointer over top of the item you wish to take him and press the fire button. Scroll of the Hawk When this scroll is invoked it will allow you to move to any location in the four territories with the exception of Valley of the Gods . If this scroll has been cursed, you will be teleported to a random location on the map. Scroll of the Wyrm When this scroll is invoked it will force the Dragon to attack another knight. Using the arrows in the centre strip on the inventory screen select the knight which you wish target. If the scroll has been cursed, the knight that invoked the scroll will be attacked by the Dragon. Be warned! Scroll of Protection If you are victim of an unprovoked attack, you will be prompted, if you so wish, to cast your scroll of protection in order to avoid the battle. If the scroll has been cursed though, it will cause your controls to be reversed during battle. Magic Key There are four magic keys in the land. You must collect all four keys in order to enter the Valley of the Gods, there to meet the Guardian. Moonstones You will be awarded a moonstone upon defeating the Guardian within the Valley of the Gods. There are four possible Moonstones that you could be awarded. A full Moonstone, new Moonstone, or one of two half Moonstones (one waxing, one waning). Each Moonstone will double the amount of hit points you currently have during the proper moon cycle of the moonstone. System Requirements Amiga with 1 megabyte of memory, 1 or 2 joysticks. Loading Instructions Insert Moonstone Disk A into drive DF0: and turn your system on. Knight's Equipment Each player starts out with padded armour, a long sword, 10 throwing daggers (a knight can carry up to 10 daggers), and 10 gold pieces (a knight can carry up to 150 gold pieces). Each knight also begins the game with a strength, constitution, and endurance rating of 1, and 5 life points. Game Options Number of players Up to 4 players may play Moonstone. Gore Switch This allows the player to turn the blood and gory deaths on / off. Practice This mode allows 2 players to do battle with each other. Select Knight Choose which knight you wish to be. To select a knight simply highlight the knight you wish to be and press the fire button. This will prompt you to type in your name if you wish. Once done press return, or the fire button. KNIGHT BATTLE MOVES Combat is done with the joystick(s). When the fire button is not pressed, the joystick moves the knight around. When the fire button is pressed, the joystick executes 8 different combat moves. They are as follows: 1) Throw Knife This throws one of the knight's throwing daggers. 2) Overhead Chop This attack does twice the damage of a swing or thrust, but is easily avoided because of the time it takes to swing the sword. 3) Upward Thrust Good for hitting opponents jumping over the knight. 4) Thrust Backwards This is a thrusting attack directed backwards. 5) Swing This attack sweeps the area in front of the knight. 6) Block This defence allows you to block the swing attack. 7) Special Defensive Invokes a special defence move which varies from monster to monster. 8) Lunge This attack has the longest range apart from daggers. Throw Overhead Upward Knife Chop Thrust \ | / \ | / \ | / Thrust -------|------ Swing Backward / | \ / | \ / | \ Block Special Lunge Defensive When a knight faces the other way, the controls flip along the horizontal (i.e. 1 and 3 switch, etc.). If your knight begins to flicker during a battle, the game is warning you that you have 10 hit points or less left. Knight's special defence Many of the monsters have special attack moves which render you helpless unless you use your special defence. Wtf? Hey, it was maybe little better if you uploaded the thing somewhere and then linked to it here. Now it takes a whole mile to scroll down, mate.
|
the game won't work... It says "insert disk A or something like that".. anyone?
|
Did you try to install it? Don't install it, it's already in the installed state, just re-download it, extract it to some folder and play.
|
Has anyone figured out how to do fatalitys? I`m preety sure there are some. Anyways, it has been posted earlyer, so just a reminder http://www.moonstonetavern.co.uk/
|
How can i save in this game?
|
You can't, you can only play the entire game through in one piece, like on the earlier consoles like NES or Gameboy. But it's not that really long anyway, should take around 2 hours to finish.

Move your Dos games into other folders with max 8 letters, then you can see and mount their names appropriately in DosBox.

Down + Enter 7) Special Defensive Invokes a special defence move which varies from monster to monster. ??? 8) Lunge This attack has the longest range apart from daggers. Forward, Down + ENTER Is this correct? Can someone tell me how to throw Daggers? :) |
To throw daggers just press Up+Enter like in Overhead Chop, or maybe it was Up+Forward+Enter, don't remember anymore. You'll throw dagger automatically if you have any. Overhead Chop works only if there's something over the head to chop :P
|
up and back (away from your enemy) will throw daggers.
enter is fire/attack/button A/ whatever. i just wish i was playing games right now so bad!!! |
How can I throw dagger or use scrolls.
Thx for help |
Sweet! This find has made my day, this was my favourite game when i was five. I've been searching for ages for this game :brain:
|
@everyone:
In this forum, there are many hints on how to end the game and see the damn extro. I just wanted to add one thing (it almost drove me crazy): As sonn as you have the bloody moonstone (after smacking up the blue bitch with the whip in the valley of the gods), you have to return it to stonehenge in the woods. But it has to be full moon. You can see that on the screen "Next day...Press fire to continue". Remember that before desperately crashing your computer into the trash. |

Anyone know how to change the "fire" button in to something more suitable than return? |
I have a huge Problem with the Moonstone right now... I got the Half-Moonstone and I am Waiting at Stonehenge for days and days again but it never ends!!
Is this a known bug or something? Do ich have to kill all Monsters first? |
You have to get full Moonstone first, and only then the game ends at the Stonehenge at some certain day.
|
Ok,i have read all the pages related to this. Nothing works for me.

( after mounting drives etc i start game by just clickin ms.exe through windows, is that the problem? )
|
I figured out by moonstonetaver guid.
for people like me 1. Firstly stick the Moonstone directory at c:\moon (remove Moonstone folder but cut moon part out and put it in c:) 2. Run DOSBox and type the following... mount c c:\moon 3. Then type c: 4. It simply remains for you to type ms.exe 5. Wahey - no more "Insert Disk A" messages! |

i have downloaded the game and extracted it.i also have the dos box which works.how do i play the game now?please answer me...
|
Read the readme that came with DosBox. It's all explained there.
|
Having a spot of trouble here. When I get to the main menu the cursor automatically scrolls downward as if I were pressing down on my arrow keys. This happens when selecting my knight and makes movement impossible. Anyone have trouble like this? Thanks.
|
Dosbox seem to work on most of the games i have downloaded but when i try with moonstone i get Error : path not found (..\DISKA) ANy ideas
Thanks |
Quick possibilities:
Make sure the folders in question doesn't have names of more than 8 characters in length. If that is checked and cleared: Have you mounted a virtual C drive or a virtual D drive? If D, try changing it to C. This letter would be the lone letter before the path in the DOSBox mount command. |

well i have tried running it on dosbox 0.65 and 0.70 and both of them worked (with your directories)
check if you have all these files in the moon directory: +[MOON ] --files: 108 files with size 991 830 bytes --directories: ++[DISKA] - has 37 files, size 426 561 bytes ++[DISKB] - has 103 files, size 542 404 bytes ++[DISKC] - has 88 files, size 687 708 bytes ++[SAMPLES] - has 49 files, size 267 250 bytes apparently you are missing the diska directory, by the error message and here i have uploaded the selfextracting archive (maybe your winzip wasnt updated) http://www.zshare.net/download/29062753cd10de/ |
Thanks Man so glad i caqn finally play this game did not have any sub folders on my download not sure why but your link worked a treat thanks again |
no problem. i think you should update your winzip=)

Call me lame but I just can't beat this game. I always found it tough on the Amiga and the old 'go to Stonehenge' cheat for extra lives was in existence back then, I seem to remember, but for some reason, it never worked on my machine and it doesn't work on this machine now, either. I seem to be suffering from an ancient gypsy moonstone curse. I head rumours of a trainer for the Amiga but by that time I'd given up and had better things to do with my time, particularly when there was no save function.
Does anyone have a way of cheating? I just want to see what happens if you win through in the end. A way of adding lives if I'm in desperate need would be extremely helpful. |
Start a game with several human players. In a multiplayer game you only need 1 instead of 3 victories for a stat raise.
If you don't get all the treasure after defeating a lair you it stays and you can collect XP again and again easily there by revisiting. The easiest way to cheat is saving every few seconds with the amiga emulator and reload if you loose a battle. Try to get 2 actions per turn by clicking very fast before the others' turns start. Most important piece of equipment is the "sword of sharpness". The stonehenge cheat should work on the amiga version, maybe you didn't do it properly. What exactly did you do ? |

Help!!!!
I loved this games so much as a kid so was buzzing when i found this!!!!
Only problem is after the intro it says to enter disc 2 and press fire, i obviosly don't have disc 2 and i don't know what fire is!!! What am i doing wrong!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
The fire key is likely something obvious - like Enter, Space or Ctrl.
The game archive on Abandonia has all the files you need. |
My laptop hates Dosbox (actually, it hates any kind of emu), so any game i run in Dosbox, goes extremly, and then I mean extremly, slow. However, worked fine on my other comp, which is broken since a few days back, so I can't use it.
So, I'm looking for some other way to get through the "insert DISKA..." screen. My first idea was to make some floppy disks, but then a voice in my head said; "hey this is a laptop, what's the chance of that it will work?" so I laid that idea aside. But now I'm clueless. So, anyone got a sugguestion that doesn't include an emu? :wondering: |
Virtual floppy drive and floppy images?
|
archive broken
When I try to unzip the downloaded file I get an error message from winace. It says 'archive is broken' and refuses to unzip the file.
Any ideas? |
Could be a corrupt download. Try download it again.

Cursor scrolling
Just installed it and I have a slight problem...the game cursor is automatically scrolling to the bottom right corner of the screen. Now, and it has been a long time, I do recall having a problem like this with my amiga years ago - but how do I stop it???

Sound doesn't work for me.
Any help? Seems like a fun game but it's a bit dull to play with no sound. Moon.cfg is set to Sound=SB dosbox default is Blaster=A220 I7 D1 H5 T6 Moonstone doesn't appear to have any way of setting up the sound. |
Try changing the values for Soundblaster in dosbox.conf to A220 I5 D1 H5 T6 or type in DosBox
set blaster=A220 I5 D1 H5 T6 and see if that would help. |
Once again...
www.moonstonetavern.co.uk Great site for anything Moonstone, plus one of the regulars there made up a WinUAE version of it all fully configured without extra clutter (and not much larger at all) Quite frankly, its brilliant. You just need to throw it somewhere on your HD and run the .exe Its found under the emulators and abandonware menu. I strongly recommend getting the amiga version. The sfx are superior, the AI of the black knights isn't quite so stupid and the Dragon's flight path isn't quite so focused on killing a particular knight (he attacks you when your under him but doesn't beeline in the amiga version so you can avoid him if you need to) Go visit his site, its worth it. If its down for some reason send me a message and I can send it to you but its in better taste if you get it from there. I managed to actually finish the game in 1player mode in this version, so no bugs that I'm aware of.. or found. |
Unable to start the game
Hello,
I have some issues starting the game, Directly after the intro is done I get an error saying "NTVDM CPU illegal instruction" and alot of codes after it. Anyone knows how to fix this? I'm running the PC version |

Anyway , great game , even though it's really short and would hardly replayable if the combat wasn't so much fun:) Decapitations , yay! XD The game also becomes ridiculously easy once you know the dragons' pattern. I am having problems with the sound though. There is no music outside the cutscenes and everything else sounds extremely crappy  This is very different from what I remember it to be on the Amiga. Does anyone know if this could be caused by some problem with the sound settings or if this is purely because of differences between both versions? |
It truly was a great game, but has had some flaws and was too short. We're working on a game inspired by Moonstone, which will be longer and more elaborate.

Oh my god. How many people have posted in this thread asking questions that were answered already, earlier in the thread? F**ckin' read it!
I was also having a couple of issues but having read the whole thread, now i have none. But for anyone else who comes after me, i'll give some quick advice. Use DOSBOX. D'uh. Enter and Space are fire buttons. To attack you first hold down fire then a direction. A, X, D, and W are also direction keys (presumably to two player fights but i'm not sure which is the matching fire button, probably Space) Get better at fighting the enemies by starting a 4 player game and playing each Knight. You won't have to worry about other knights attacking you either. You will eventually have to start fighting and killing knights to get the keys though. I remember playing this game soooo long ago and in particular a 3 player with my brother and a friend. The friend had never played before and wandered straight into a Balok lair. He randomly swung his sword around and somehow killed it (only one spawned), and got the sword of sharpness for his loot! I know i must have played this several times but that's the only time i can remember, must have been too long ago! Great game. |

Hey Guys!
I played Moonstone A Hard Days Knight as a child on a Amiga 500. Now i´m working on my own knight game, which i call "Iron Blood." It´s not directly a remake of Moonstone A Hard Days Knight, but it will be very similar to it! Check out the website: https://www.knight-game.com Newest screenshots can be found on our Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/IronBloodGame Thank you! Gazu |
Hey Gazu, I checked out your game page. It looks a lot like Moonstone with new graphics. Hope it works out for you.

Moonstone is now on GOG for $5.99
|
It's also still free here.
Or did you meant hat it should not be available here anymore? As, if it's for sale it's no longer abandonware? |
Exactly.
