Wouldn't it be possible to sticky a thread somewhere where everyone who uploads games/manuals or whatever can post exactly what files they've uploaded. It wouldn't even become too big since you could edit your original post everytime you send something new.

I dunno, like it is now it's hard to know what is worth uploading and what's not, looking through the ftp every time is annoying and time consuming.

Not quite on the same topic but along the lines of making uploading easier.

Would it be possible to make a web-based ftp that would allow members to upload games without other ftp programs. It would still have to be password protected but Kosta could monitor and limit who had access to it!

Yeah. sort of but maybe have a log in that shows you the contents of your folder on the server and then you can browse your hard drive and select a file to upload.

I don't know whether it would work, it was just something that passed through my brain!

Any FTP client will do that... Unless you're behind a firewall and can't use port 21 (FTP) why bother with a web-interface?

However, FTP will do just fine for me! And Kosta can probably check quota and access for the FTP as well, if he'd wanted to.

Yes, but at present I could cause havoc on the incoming server because I have access to everyones folders. I could easily delete everything that has been uploaded (at least I think I could but I haven't tried and don't intend to). A web-based system would restrict access so that you could only access your folder. It wouldn't remove the problem entirely - it could still be done by someone who knew what they were doing - but it would make it much harder. Even on the incoming server it would be irritating if someone decided to delete the whole lot.

I would have thought that fairly obvious. No matter how good an ftp client you use, there will still be some people that don't understand it. If you can just select the file and click upload I would think nearly everybody could do it.

Would have thought it would be fairly straightforward php though I don't know how you would add the necessary security.

firefox users can get an extention called FireFTP which is very convenient :D

from a personal point of view fireFTP is s**t. It wouldn't display my remote folder at all and most the time it wouldn't connect for me. Personally, for FTP clients I'll stick to Filezilla and SmartFTP but my point is for those that don't really understand how to use an FTP client!

But if FileZilla would be to complicated for someone... I mean, how easy does it have to be? Fair enough, using one account for all uploads gives everyone access to all folders, but in this case that would suffice. There's even a FTP for dummies thread somewhere on the forum...

I can see your point, but how many people do actually have trouble understanding an FTP-cllient and are thus unablt to upload their files? If it's just one or two, it seems an awful lot of trouble to go through IMHO.
