That might have happened because I was doing the upload at 3am... I wonder what my real thoughts were at the time.

Just press escape and the opening menu screen will apeare. There's the save option button.

@ -holly: Where are you stuck? Once you find out how to do the first puzzle you'll be able to do get through the puzzles - except for the last one.

jerimi 29-01-2005 09:58 AM

:tnx: Now it will be better, my son got angry because I didn't know.

holly 29-01-2005 04:42 PM

i am stuck with trying to get key for cell

Sebatianos 29-01-2005 06:27 PM

OK - it's not that complicated, but it is a bit tricky. As Penny (the blonde girl) use her computer book (it's one of the icons) and you'll see some options there. One of them is a magnet icon. Click on that magnet and then your interface will change to "USE MAGNET WITH". Just choose the key and there you go.

Also remember - that book will come in hande with the puzzles. Penny can control the little gadgets (devices) she finds through that book (like gadget laser finger...).

:help:

Is the file corrupted in some way? When I unzipped the files (into a folder I created, "IG") and ran the game, the text doesn't work correctly!

1: When I try to speak to someone (e.g.: Inspector Gadget in the first scene), the text box is blank!

2: The white rectangle which is supposed to state what I'm highlighting (i.e.: the rectangle that contains the text "Go to?" in all of the pictures on the review page) is empty. The text is just squashed and overlapped somewhere on the left hand side of the screen (in the space of 1 or 2 letters, the whole word is squeezed), making it illegible.

I'm guessing that there is an error on the "text" file, but I'm not sure. Seems like I'm the only one with this problem.

athcnv 29-01-2005 06:48 PM

Oops, forgot to add - I already tried downloading the game again from the site - but got the same problem!

Sebatianos 29-01-2005 07:02 PM

Well you don't get to chose what you'll say. Penny will just ask Gadget about the call. When you click on the talk icon and the text Talk to apeares - just click on Gadget.

athcnv 30-01-2005 01:11 PM

I managed to work that out - and then got Inspector Gadget out of Dr. Claw's castle, but without the text I can't work out very well what to do next!

I take it I'm the only one running into this problem then?

Sebatianos 30-01-2005 01:46 PM

OK - I'll get the walkthrough (not the first time I'd write one). It will be done before the end of the weekend.

EDIT: Another afternoon gone, but at least you have the Walkthrough again.

athcnv 31-01-2005 04:14 PM

Er.....never mind. I managed to work out the problem!

Turns out the problems I mentioned only occur when I run the game in Dosbox (version 0.63). If I run the game in Win XP, no text problems!

BUT: my mouse doesn't work in the game if it is run in XP!
Luckily, the game allows the use of the keyboard (arrow and enter keys)

Unfortunately, the arrow keys are not precise enough to enable you to take certain small items on certain screens (i.e.: the cursor cannot be maneouvered (spelling?) over the key when trying to use the magnet on it in Dr. Claw's castle, without the mouse)

The only solution I had was to run game in XP, get to a point where I couldn't get an object without a mouse, saved the game, exited, ran game in dosbox, loaded up, used the mouse to get/use the necessary object, saved, exited, then restarted the game in XP.

Also, I managed to complete the game! Took a few hours I think (took quite a while before I worked out what to do with the bits that make up the robot remote!)

 No i'm having the same exact problem...i read ur other update on how to fix it but that's complicated....why does it work for everyone else on dos-box?

Kryspe 22-04-2005 10:55 PM

I'm having some difficulties. I'm in LA and Penny is locked in the room. It won't recognize that the gadet is in the cabinet. I already picked up the pliers, and when I couldn't get anything to really work with those, I checked the walkthrough, and there is definately a gadget in there. Penny even sees that there is a gadget in there, but I can't get her to "use" it or "pick up" it. This happened to me in Moscow too. I quit that game and started over. Any clues on how I can get her to pick it up, it just isn't recognizing it at all. Please help me rescue Penny!

Kryspe 23-04-2005 03:45 AM

Nevermind. I got DosBox and it worked perfectly. If anyone else is having a similar problem, just download DosBox (be sure to utilize the Guide, its great).

I had the same problem (text not appearing) and it was all due to exessive speed. Just let the game run on DosBox with the default 3000 cycles and only adjust the frames with Ctrl+F8 a couple of times (for me it was 4) and all should be fine! :ok:

james 02-07-2005 06:47 PM

Sebatianos 03-07-2005 05:34 PM

There is no need to install the game!!!

You just download the game - unzip it - and PLAY :Brain:

Tobi 08-09-2005 11:58 AM

sorry, but i can not find the "Robot Control Circuit"
can anybody help me?
:help:

Sebatianos 08-09-2005 12:10 PM

Aha...
You can't find it - you need to make it!
This is what the device you make from all those parts you find in New York is called (so you need to get all the parts mentioned in the walkthrough and put them togeter).

Tobi 08-09-2005 01:37 PM

oh...
funny... i think, that i tried to use the battery with the microchip.. :w00t:
never mind

thank you

and for the next time, i read the Walkthrough better, not only one or two lines

I'm guessing because..mouses don't work on DOS programs, I don't think?

Rinn 01-01-2006 08:27 PM

Had the same problem where Text did not show up. I finnally did something that fixed it in DOSBOX. I believe i simply went into teh file Setd.exe and then quit it.

I didn't change anything inside, but it seemed to fix the text on my screen...

Nope - mouse works fine with DOS-games, but for this game you need to run it in DOSBox - it's not WinXP compatible (mouse).

Mortal_Kombat_1987 10-02-2006 06:37 AM

I have tried every suggestion on this board, and I still cannot get my text problem fixed :wall: :wall: :wall: Would someone please help me fix this problem before I go insane?

Mortal_Kombat_1987 12-02-2006 01:33 AM

Nevermind, I figured it out. Thanks anyway!

Alice 07-02-2007 04:51 AM

This game sounds so cool. I couldn't wait to hear that familiar Inspector Gadget theme. When I ran gadget.exe, I didn't get any sound and my touchpad didn't work. People on the msg board mentioned dosbox. Is that command prompt? I tried command prompt and still had the same issues. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Guest 07-02-2007 05:01 AM

Strange, I was playing around with opening some of the exe files and the pointer started working. Still couldn't get the sound to work. The setd file has sound card choices, but I don't know which to pick. I tried soundblaster and ibm internal and it didn't work. On top of that after open some other of the exe files the pointer stopped working and the game is discolored. It's quite difficult to make stuff work with new technology. Any ideas?

The Fifth Horseman 09-02-2007 07:13 AM

Of course. Use DosBox to run the game. You can download it here.

This cartoon was excellent but the game not so much. I think they had a decent Inspector Gadget game but don't remember. Does anyone know another game very similar to this in both control & graphics. It has nothing to do with Inspector Gadget or any other licensed material. Its mostly about science stuff. You are in a construction area and click things... its an old dos game too.

that game was really good for education (for kids)!! anyone know what I'm talking about??

karekristensson 06-11-2009 04:23 PM

Have fond memories of the cartoon. :)

Glitches with Game

I've played the game twice all the way up to New York, and each time I can't seem to find the Gadget Roller Skates (I don't think they're needed but the fact I they don't show up is strange). Also, I think I'm missing a part for the device needed to control/stop the robots; I found the batteries, antenna, and computer board (combined them together). If there's something else in the receiving room cabinet (Penny says there is) but I can't pick it up or use it. Help would be very much appreciated!

Ah I forgot I also found the spool of wire, but that's not in the cabinet so I forgot about it. Still can't complete the game though with the four components I found...
