Review and download (if available)

Oh, now this is the Sonic game I love the most! As stated in the review, this game's got TONS of levels, great 90's graphics, and a rockin' soundtrack. Me and my cousin used to play the Windows version of Sonic CD often when I was at his house. :3:

Oh, and BTW, I noticed that on the ISO Cellar, Sonic CD hasn't been added yet, even though the "Notes" section of the review says it is.

It's there, dig in the ISO cellar 'Requests' topic, the links are submitted by SpiDoL
Just need to be moved to the right sub.
One of the mods will take care of it, sooner or later.

I just re-uploaded the custom "Japanese Music" ISO to Mediafire. Am working on the original ISO right now.

Quick question, does the game auto-install an early version of directX?

Donugee 29-09-2010 09:50 PM

Hey...Sonic CD was resold in sonic gems collection not too long ago, Wouldn't that make it not abandonware?

Not on XP or higher. It tries to, but then the installer crashes, which is one of the reasons you need to install the XP patch.

Sonic Gems Collection was for Gamecube and (in Japan and Europe) PS2, not the PC, so that version doesn't count. You can't find the original PC version in stores anymore, which is why it's on Abandonia now.

Holy $#!7! This is like my favorite game EVAH!! XD I even remember the little trick to get to the debug screen.

Use notepad or something to edit the "sonic.ini" file in the "windows" directory. Add the following line to the file:

[Secret]
User=Debugger

(Yes, capitals are important here) Start up the game and two new menus will appear. The "Stage" menu will allow any stage (including Special Stage 8) to be selected. The "FUNC" menu has the ability to turn on debug mode, turn off the special stage timer, record and play a demo, and uncheck the MMTimer option to place the game in turbo mode. :max:

Welcome to Abandonia nuts, and thank you for the cheat!

Thanks for this game, it rocks!!

But... Release content is really messy and I can't get game work, even the patch doesn't feel very reliable. All I get after or before patching, is "CD Check file is not found". Should there really be something to burn or mount as the readme says? Few instructions could be appreciated.

Might this be an issue to it being available here?

http://www.gamespot.com/events/pax20...ml?sid=6330809

It's being released on XBLA, PSN, Steam, iOS, Android, and... Windows Mobile (chuckle)

It depends on which version of the game the port is. If it is the original PC version, then yes, it will be a problem.

The Fifth Horseman 26-08-2011 05:42 PM

Reading that article, this is going to be half a brand new port of the original console title and half an enhanced remake.

SpiDoL 01-09-2011 10:42 PM

Plus it's gonna only have the Japanese music, which the original PC version never had. So I wouldn't worry about it.

ATTENTION!:
This morning I stumbled across a little program that makes Sonic CD for Windows 95 (as well as Sonic & Knuckles Collection and Sonic 3D Blast for Windows 95) fully compatible with modern versions of Windows.

No headaches, hassles, or nothing; IT WORKS!

Here:

My only gripe is that if playing in fullscreen mode on any resolution other than 640x480, the graphics will be distorted. I hate distortion, but most people probably won't care. :P

What we should do, is I'll re-upload the Sonic CD ISO to the ISO Cellar, and then we'll include this program in the Extras section on the Sonic CD page on the main site. We'll also explain what the program does on the page and pinpoint to it so anyone who wants to download the game won't have any trouble installing it. How does that sound?

I always liked Sonic games very much. Great musics too :max:

Hi Spidol, how you've been?

We can't simply upload and host other people's material. So you either contact him so we can add his program as extras with proper credits, or we simply add anote in review and link to this page. Actually, second options is probably cleaner one.

I say we do the latter as well. It's VERY hard to join the Sonic Retro forums; going through all that trouble just to contact that one person would not be worth it.

That said, how soon do you think the note and link will be added to the Sonic CD page?
