What is common and what is the difference between the words patch and cheat code?:mhh::OK:

Well, patches fix the game in regards to repairing any bugs and/or glitches which might be present in earlier versions while cheat codes are commands which have intentionally been put into games to try out things which you might not have been able to do in the normal game. Cheat codes could either be remnants of the debugging process of the game or just left there for those who want to mess around with the game for their own personal enjoyment.

Patches and cheats are for two dinstinctly different reasons. Like Oak said: Patches are for fixing/tweaking a game or program if it's broken or unbalanced. Cheats are well, cheats, they are for changing the game so you can do things the designers didn't intend, such as walking through walls, or eternal life etc etc or a remnant of the debugging during developement.

i would kinda agree that both make the game similar except for the fact that occasionally patches remove exploits and cheats

Okee. By steps.Patches are for fixing.they are for changing the game. It same or not?

Patches solve software problems.

Cheats solve in-game problems.

patch is something that you actually should use

A patch changes the game for good, it fixes problems and other stuff. But the main point it is once it is installed it has changed the game for good. Patches change the code into new or different code.

A cheat lets you change the IN-GAME enviroment while you are playing, but it does not afftect the game for ever, just while you have the cheat active. Cheats also rarely change the games code, they just allow you to bypass some of the games features, like walls being solid, or taking damage.

There are also the connotations of the two words.

To patch something is a good thinig to most people. Thus the word itself has a good connotation.

To cheat at something is a bad thing to most people. Thus the word itself has a bad connotation.

Patch
vBulletin is patched, so now the vBulletin software is on the qui vive when eugene425 is posting, eugene425 can't double-triple-quadruple post anymore.

Cheat
vBulletin has inbuilt codes that needs to be activated by eugene425, when the code is activated eugene425 can double-triple-quadruple post.
The code needs to be activated manually by eugene425 every time he logs in.

What both have in common is that they are derived from the game source code and have to do with the game engine and its features. The cheat is a programmed feature of the game. The patch is intended to amend issues found with programmed features of the game.

The first part I liked, because all deployed and clearly. But the second I do not understand. Because of the words amend issues. What does it mean?:whops:

Cheat = intended but optional part of the game.
Patch = to fix an intended part of the game that's somehow broken.

Thus, both be software code. But the patch is required for installation because it fixes bugs games (usually rather old). A cheat just for fun.
