Save me!
I got Doom 2 to work fine on the DOSBox and stuff, but it won't let me save.
Also, there's already save slots on the game. I was like, "wha...?". Seemed sorta like I got a game that someone has already played, but, how? I mean, when I load the names, they have their own spot and everything. Unless that's suppose to happen. But when I tried saving my own game, it said "game saved", but when I went to load, it was still at the previously saved game. (I even changed the name of the saved game when I saved. When I loaded, the name just changed back.) My brother said I had to do something (like make some sort of file or whatever) to make things and games like this save. He doesn't know how, so he told me the best place to look is the forums. I looked, and couldn't find. :( So now I'm just asking... :) |

Select all game files, press Alt+Enter (or right-click > "properties") and make sure the "read only" attibute is removed.
Where did you install the game, and are you using Vista? Try running DOSBox as admin to check. |
I just got the download off a sight that had a link to this sight. Oh, no. I'm using windows.
|
AAAGH. Lol, rant.
The properties was on "read only" so I unchecked it, applied, and pressed OK. I then double-checked and saw that the "read only" was still checked. So, it was like, not even saving my properties. Even though I used "apply" and everything. . . . . lol? |

*sigh* Whatever, use Skulltag to run Doom in Windows. Skulltag <- click BTW, if your 'Windows' is Vista work in your personal folders. |
Ah. Windows XP, sorry.
Skulltag seams OK. If you want Doom 1 for free. And I kinda said doom 2... Meh. :noworry: No prob. Thanks. |
noo that high resolution doesn't feel like original doom anymore
about the read only option, found this on the net Quote:
also try unchecking the single file and checking back. does it work? |

GLDoom! Boom! ZDoom! VaVoom!
Doom ports abound! :doomed: |
Wow I never tried Skulltag or jDoom or any of these other ports ... perhaps I should.
|
IMO:
Easiest for multiplay: Skulltag. Best graphics and ingame options: jDoom. |

As said: IMO.
And in jDoom there are lots of mods that can be loaded ..... And as last but not least argument: On my 23"CRT I can run Doom full screen without any pixelation. Ever tried the original game on a 23"CRT fullscreen? [Edit] And what's more I can jump in the ports. And I have mouse-aim. And I can set up multiplayer games in a breeze. And ..... Djees man, those ports bring Doom into modern FPS gaming, why would I play that excellent game in an ol'crappy way if I can fully enjoy it as a modern multiplayer FPS???? |

but i have my doom running on abandonware notebook connected to to 19 inch diameter widescreen SONY tv in the livingroom yeah babyy, pixels are teh shіt |
Let's kill _r.u.s.s. now .....
And something I forgot to mention, seems I really getting old, isn't it? Doom classic mod on the DoomIII game combined with the grandiose COOP mod. The classic Doom gameplay in COOP with the DoomIII engine/graphics. Rock'n roll baby !!!! I lost months on that one. |
Okay, that's enough.
Troubleshooting is a place to help people to run and play old games. Not some place to have an argument on which game or which port is the best. You all gave your advice to the guy, I am sure he have more than enough options now. You are free to go continue this conversation in Favorite Oldies and Newbies forum. |
