Some...pictures... Loz made 'em D:

First off, this is a WIP of a picture intended for my CV.
My CV is going to be styled like an old PC game, in a big box with a floppy boot disk and examples of my artwork in the manual, with the actual CV itself and my working examples on disk. (I'm...hoping...to go into Game Level Design)

EDIT: Here's the bare link if you can't see it here:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...2/CVcover2.png

The cover itself was based loosely on some old Commodore 64 covers I had knocking about, which were crazy fantastic.
Obviously, my attempt at a cover is still in dire need for some more refinery.
Let me know what you guys think, should any colours be changed? Should I make it lighter/darker? Should I add more detail or keep it simple? etc.

Otherwise, I'm not sure If I ever linked my Elfwood here, but if you guys wanna see some of my work, you can have a gander:

http://www.elfwood.com/art/l/a/latkinson/latkinson.html

Bare in mind though, that I haven't updated this gallery with new material for well over 5 years now.
I'd recommend starting your viewing with the Jester. Since I believe that's one of my personal bests.

Ho hum!

Also, if anyone has any old blank (preferably black) PC game boxes going spare, drop me a line :P I need to get my hands on around 5-10 more if I can.

_r.u.s.s. 10-01-2009 09:14 PM

how can you draw like that? WITCHCRAFT!

Lozzenger2 10-01-2009 09:48 PM

I stick pencils up my nose and sneeze them out; art appears!

Japo 11-01-2009 11:00 AM

LOL ... I would read it

ayoeness 11-01-2009 01:42 PM

This is really brilliant, and so are the old pics by the way. You make me never wanna draw again. :amused:

edit: even better, and you're right.

I feel the other way, your pics are really awesome and makes me want to draw again :E

Quintopotere 12-01-2009 06:21 AM

You had a very fine idea for your CV!
Sadly, I'm not able to see the pic in your message... :(

However, your drawings at elfwood are good: I just wonder how much you improved yourself in 5 years...

Dave 12-01-2009 12:17 PM

Wow, really nice

Spoonman 12-01-2009 04:01 PM

Very nice! I would really like to see stuff like those drawings integrated into a full picture with full background and stuff, that's got to be awesome (like your CV!) :)

Lozzenger2 13-01-2009 12:45 PM

@ Quin: I've stuck the direct link up underneath where the pic should be, not sure if that will work better for you or not.
Suffice to say I really don't think I've improved that much in 5 years. I took a looooong break for a while with the odd doodle here and there and have only really taken up my drawing habits again within the past year or so. My understanding of anatomy has improved a little thanks to some life drawing workshops my uni set up, but other than that....well, it's difficult to tell without me doing a big piece, which I really don't have time for at the moment with all the work I have to do.

@Spoonman: Do you mean that for the CV or for a drawing in general?

Thanks for the comments guys =]

_r.u.s.s. 13-01-2009 03:24 PM

who needs an improvement if you draw like that o_o

Spoonman 13-01-2009 03:25 PM

Possibly both now that I think of it, although you shouldn't leave the other works out :) But the cover of your CV is already more than "just" a drawing with a white background

Quintopotere 14-01-2009 12:04 PM

Sadly, here at work, photobucket is not enabled...

Lozzenger2 20-01-2009 04:14 AM

Sorry to here that, a strange thing to have disabled I might add.
I'm not sure where else I could upload it, it usually takes a month or so for anything to be accepted into Elfwood, which is why I rarely update that anymore. I need to get my ass in gear and sort my own site out.

Anyway, I have another addition to the judgement, my almost final piece Cave Project.

Best viewed in High Quality. n_n

I've also begun the lengthy modelling process for a Troll character to inhabit this cave. It's only the first week, so all I've really done is a very basic mesh to work with, but you can see things taking shape:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ger2/mesh3.png

I'll upload some of the concept art later in the week =]

_r.u.s.s. 20-01-2009 05:06 AM

i think that cave looks really awesome, except for when the character gets to jump over the lava, because all the time it feels like he was floating in air but when it comes to the lava he suddenly has to jump over it

Lozzenger2 20-01-2009 02:50 PM

Yeah, The camera is too high in the entrance, which gives the impression of floating. I should have noticed it when I playblasted the scene, but the playblast screwed up so I went ahead and rendered anyway since it had previously been fine and I'd forgotten I'd been playing with the graph editor.
It's one of the issues I'll be fixing at a later date along with the jerk before he jumps and the strange flickering of the glowing assets (Which is an issue with the autoexposure settings).
I *could* try and add a little shakey sidesweep to the camera so there's a footstepyness to it as well, but I think that would take too long. Still, I wont rule it out for after my troll project is done.

Spoonman 20-01-2009 04:36 PM

Well, you already know what needs improvement, no need for me to repeat that. I am gonna repeat it's awesome though :) Hmm so this is Maya.. I wish I had the patience to get into such programs

Lozzenger2 20-01-2009 09:15 PM

Once you understand what does what with the interface, 80% of the program is common sense, the remaining 20% is watching/reading tutorials. It really isn't as complicated as it looks when you first open it up :amused:

Quintopotere 29-01-2009 06:12 AM

Cave project looks good, expecially the crystals!
The worst things are the mushrums/trees which looks too "plastics/squared", maybe they oly need different textures...

Lozzenger2 31-01-2009 12:06 PM

Hmm. Do you mean it's too blocky or the texture itself is something you don't like?
Both issues are likely to be attributed to the very low polygon count.
If normap mapping would work on my laptop I'd have a bash at adding more detail that way via zbrush, since that's the method the industry uses. I'd have to UV map the meshes properly though, which would alter the original texture.
I'll add it to the list of things to do once my troll project is done =]

Speaking of which, here's an update on that one =P

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ftmodelled.png

I'm currently working on the texture, which I'll have some pics of soon n_n

_r.u.s.s. 31-01-2009 12:10 PM

i dunno, i like both mushrooms and crystals

btw are you adding bump mapping to that troll?

Lozzenger2 31-01-2009 12:36 PM

I'll be adding a normal map so he can get some finer details like wrinkles, spots, scratches etc. As well as refine the shape of the ears hopefully :amused:

Lozzenger2 01-02-2009 10:31 PM

Quick update on the texture, what do you guys think?

awesome troll lady

ps. did you get my pm?=P

Lozzenger2 02-02-2009 05:40 PM

I didn't notice it 'til you mentioned :P
I certaintly wasn't expecting it either!
Thank you very much, I'm downloading the file right now =D
Once I get the troll rigged I'll upload some playblasts. I can't wait to get him pulling some really expressive faces ! Hehe n_n

KapuAaka 07-02-2009 03:26 PM

That's cool :amused: It looks like an ogre. :omg:

Lozzenger2 12-02-2009 06:36 PM

Managed to get my normals working, here's a quick render of the almost finished texture :) the skin is very rough though, I'm thinking of making him more scaley...
I've bought a couple of mens fitness magazines too so I'll probably be going over the definition of musculature at a later stage since his pex are too flat anyway.

_r.u.s.s. 12-02-2009 06:40 PM

pretty neat i think

even though those pans look like the troll was sticking out of a sack. and at first i thought it's going to be a female by the looks on it's face, but a transvestite troll is way cooler anyways

maybe a bit less of a lipstick?=P

Lozzenger2 12-02-2009 09:03 PM

Yeah, everyone has made the same comment on that one :P
I'll tone the lips down to a more pale colour later tonight.

Halindir 14-02-2009 12:35 PM

Getting hotter

Lozzenger2 06-04-2009 03:59 PM

Cha ching?

www.youtube.com/lozzenger2

Hmm, still so much to do.

CrybKeeper 06-04-2009 07:40 PM

OH my GOSH, are you good! The troll is engaging and the dialogue is likewise and a bit humorous.

Troll mouth: eliminate the human lips, maybe go with no lips.

Lozzenger2 07-04-2009 11:15 PM

Considering you only get half the story from those clips your comment is much appreciated! If I could figure out how to use the annotations thing properly, I'd try to set it up so that you could experience the proper conversation as intended, as there are meant to be different options and conversation paths involved to lead to you the same conclusion.

I'm not sure if he'd look right without lips, but I can always have a play around and see what works.
