SimCity 2000 Network Edition

A network version of the game, SimCity 2000: Network Edition was released in 1996 for both Macintosh and Windows.

The network edition had the ability to share in-game resources and to compete or cooperate with other cities. If the user is on an appropriate network (TCP or IPX), then SimCity 2000 Network Edition works in a similar way to SimCity 4, giving the ability to cooperate with other cities (for example, by trading electricity for money, and vice-versa).

SimCity 2000 Network Edition featured slightly different gameplay in network mode, where mayors may start with more money, but must buy land before building upon it.

This version also features a revamped user interface. Instead of a static toolbar, items are accessed via cascading menus from the right of the screen, resulting in more screen real-estate for SimCity itself, without sacrificing functionality.
Not sure about the abandonware status because the basic version of the game is still sold.

It's really not the same game, it may look the same but the game play is different. HotU considers it abandoned.

SO sorry for not replying for so long.

its its apparently abandoned. classic gaming archive allowed it to be uploaded.

I sitll have the ISO ready for upload if this becomes accepted.

EDIT: If this does become okay to upload please note this does not run on anything above windows 95. It will just crash.

Maxis didnt code it to work on anything newer than windows 9x it doesnt even have a dos edition. its pure windows. so it wont work on anything above 9x.

The game is a pain to get running and ultimately not worth it. The networking is archaic and prone to crashing. And the game itself isn't very fun since you're just sharing land with another player. It would've been a lot better if it divided the map between the two of you or better yet, stuck the other player on an entirely different map.

This is far from unusual. There's a whole bunch of Windows 9x games that just plain out refuse to work on any newer Windows version.

Dave: Where did you find it for sale?

Sim City 2000 GOLD/Network Edition

I think it would be much cooler if this site had SC2K Gold edition :)

After looking on Wikipedia, it seems much cooler that the older SC2K edition (and more compatible with recent windows versions).

I would upload it myself, but I can't seem to find it anywhere :(

It someone would upload this, I'd appreciate it.

Professor Oak 13-08-2010 10:46 AM

A thread for this request already exists. Time for me to merge the two together.

tgp1994 13-08-2010 03:24 PM

So since it's approved, I guess we're just waiting for someone to upload it, right? It seems like I have the Special Edition, but I doubt that's the same thing. (BG music also doesn't play.)

So, if GOG sells SimCity2000 Special Edition, does this falls under rejected too? I'm asking because this is still in 'Approved' but ISO topic is removed.

Similar for SimCity2000 CD Collection?

That's a good question... If Abandonia's policy is to not post games until they are removed from all retailers, what do we do about companies that distribute games digitally?

I think it does, yeah. But what do other mods think?

Japo 29-11-2013 06:43 PM

I don't think different editions of a same game are different enough to approve one while another is for sale...? I don't think gog.com would be happy with it.

Digital sales are as valid as disk sales to reject a request.

marko river 02-12-2013 11:58 AM

Yeah, it doesn't really seem that different to be approved, but I wasn't sure.

Then rejected it is. Same for CD Collection.
