I need RPG tips.
Hi everybody, Itīs been long since i played a good RPG game, Does anyone know a good RPG game? something in the line of Diablo or Fallout?
What i am longing for is a game that is easy to play but still have more aspects then a simpel hack and slash, less bugs then Fallout 2(my cartrunk always sitts in trees and never on my car.) and quite a new game something around the year 2000... or do anyone know a more modern version of Shadow over riva? that whas a good game. PEACE |
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura.
Apart from the stampunk setting, the game is very fallout-like. No surprise, given many of the people involved in the first Fallout were involved with producing Arcanum. Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines Now, that's a hybrid between an RPG and a TPP action-adventure, but it works quite well. Bonus points for the setting and a peculiar sense of humour (which is not unlike certain jokes in the Fallout series) at many points during the game. |

thx guys, I knew I could turn to you guys. For me personaly i have a problem with sacred and Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines. I only have a Laptop to play them on, thusly i am locking for games that donīt have to high requierments.
I have tried bouth Sacred and Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines. good games, Sacred i played for a few month and got a good lvl dwarf. And Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines I had that a little while on my Comp and since it lagged a lot on that I donīt think itīs a choice for me now... Though itīs a very intresting game. PEACE |

There are some tweaks that improve its performance, BTW. |
OK well im just about to take on "Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura"... one game i loved but had problems playing whas Shadows over riva... Great game but i had problems with it since i couldnīt make it past the scen when i whas led by the people in the water to their town, I whas not able to get past it with Dosbox or in simple windows XP...(I played it in bouth, it whas so slow in Dosbox since i only had a 450 mhz comp, and the movies didnīt work without Dosbox.) does anyone know a game simmilar to the "realms of arcadia" series? preferably more modern...
Always a pleasure to get hepled by you "Fifth Horseman". PEACE |
It's a bit of a mixture of genres, but I'm momentarily captivated by Overlord, which is fun. It was definitely worth the 10 euros, but that was a temporary Steam offer I'm afraid. Sacred is a good game too, actually played that one before I tried Diablo 2.
And then there is Baldurs Gate and its sequels (which I need to continue playing one of these days), and Jade Empire is pretty good as well |
Planscape: Torment is great, too (but not very Diablo like). Another game that you can probably get for a few bucks is Dungeon Siege. The game itself is crap (well, you might like it if you liked Diablo, it is very combat heavy), but there is an incredible good Ultima V port for the engine. Easily worth the 5€ I spend for the game :)

The best RPG I EVER(!) played was Wizardry 6: Bane of the Cosmic Forge. There's no game that even remotely immersed me as deeply and completely in story and atmosphere as Bane. If u finish the game using only one mook char u will ascend to nirvana on the spot.
anyway: best. rpg. ever. |
Hm, I personally found VtM: Bloodlines a more-less crappy game. My recommendation is Morrowind, weird that noone else mentioned it yet, maybe it is first-person, but it's deep enough for the likes of Diablo and etc.
|
Talking about a game like Diablo and Fallout is a lil' contradiction. One is pure hack and slash, the other almost pure P&P RPG. But, if you say you want to dip yourself into something more than H&S I would strongly recommend to check other of Black Isle titles like Icewind Dale saga or Baldur's Gate saga (which I recently added to my collection for merely 10 bucks), not mentioning one of my favourites - Planescape: Torment. Also, I haven't played those but heard positive reviews on Temple of Elemental Evil from Troika (using AD&D system) and Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader from Interplay (which utilizes SPECIAL system known from Fallout), although those two games are from around 2003. If you prefer turn based combat over real-time one, Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor would be a perfect choice (Forgotten Realms), or the game I found quite entertaining despite it simplicity - Ascension to the Throne.

For a casual, Diablo-like, light RPG, I would recommend Fate: http://games.wildtangent.com/fate/
For more description, see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FATE_(computer_game) If you like the game but want to remove WildTangent *spyware* afterwards, see here: http://www.pchell.com/support/wildtangent.shtml Warning: RPG recommendation post directly below mine here is not to be taken seriously :bleh: |
Planescape: Torment is a horrible game with a broken AD&D application and a heaping of Chris Avellone subconsciously siphoning stupidity from Ayn Rand. Avoid.
Play Spiderweb Software games, I recommend Avernum 5. http://www.spidweb.com/ All other suggestions are inferior and placate only the minds of the rubes. |
For RPG games like Fallout, you can't go wrong with "Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Basically its a CRPG set in a open-ended victorian age world. Victorion equals like, 1800's I do believe, maybe 1700's. Yes, you haven ormal weapons like swords, staffs, blah blah, but where it gets neat is the ability to make new weapons (skills needed) and the fact guns are in the game. No not machine guns, that'd be dumb, but guns like Musketts, and Flintlocks :D Also, think of it like real-time Fallout, with multiplayer, and open ende story that has different endings, and a similar ending to fallout's, in hwich it shows how the land did after all is said and done :D Thakns to TheChosen for "supplying" me with this gem :D I almost think BP would like it! No, thats getting my hopes to high. It has very much so, Fallout styled graphics, very open-ended, and should work on every pc, cause it's new enough (2001) to be windows, and old enough that it has isometric graphics and doesn't require a super ocmputer to run it. Making your character is neat. You get to choose what race he is (human, dwarf, eld, half-orc, and the likes), there sex (sorry, no "Yes Please" otion was included in the game), there backgorund story (which hugely effects your starting stats) and go on to name there basic skills. You start the game by being on a Zeplin (for one reason or the other) and having it attacked by ogres in "New flying machines" (planes). It crashes, and you survive, to here a gnome calling for help. Moving rubble you see him there, he says something aobut getting a ring to a certian fellow, and "blargh", dies. Because im to lazy to tell you what heppens next, I'll tell this now. Violence itself has facters in the game. A Party member may leave, or even attack you if you use violence in a given situation. ...and because i have to go, ill leave you with this. Get it :D its worth it |
Just for rescat an old one,y will say Chronno trigger.....cmon!!that a great game, good story, nice graphics,an lovely fight sistem that reminds you to final fantasy.
the only problem is that, ejem is for zsnes emule. aniways see ya!!! |
Been playing Neverwinter Nights, internet multiplayer rocks(especially on the Higher Ground server)... Sacred is good, but high system requirements... DungeonSiege is pretty good too, but a little simplistic for an rpg, although playing multiplayer (solo or on a lan) really extends the value of the game...my wife is playing Disgiea for the ps2 and it is very like shining force(a good thing), and finally, a good rts is Original War, a hard to find gem that is very difficult but fun to play.
|
Also Blood and Magic is a good real time strategy game, although i havent played it in a while
|
the elder scrolls oblivion is fun and also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_and_Blade looks awesome but hasnt been released yet
|
I played an earlier version of mount and blade, but suffered from chs syndrome(can't hit s***)... it was cool tho, but very high system requirements... the mounted archery was awesome but i was seriously lacking in skillz
|
Planescape: Torment IS the best CPRG of all the time. (You should rolling on the floor screaming and shaking your pettitoes in the air that this statement is not true, but that's all what you can do with it.)
|
I prefer Arcanum.
For that matter, I haven't played it for two years and feel like getting back to it. :p |

actually it has been already released for quite some time now. and it's system requirements are actually quite low compared to most of today's games. all you need to do is some tweaking. depening on your computer capabilities you could try Stalker 1&2 (though they are more FPS) or Boiling point and it's successor White gold. But if you have an older computer they are out of the question. for older computer Morrowind could indeed occupy you for quite some time... ifg you dont' liek the 1st person look you can switch it to 3rd person anyway... |
Any Bioware/Black Isle game is good. Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights. If you want to go really old school, you should check out rpgs by SSI or Might & Magic, Bard's Tale, Ultima, Legend of Blacksilver.
|
i really liked REVENANT, it's like a Diablo-Clone, but really well done, by Eidos.

Planescape: Torment was a fantastic game, in my opinion. It simply took the whole RPG genre, and stood it deliberately on its head. And told a mesmerizing story at the same time, that just held me to the end. Can't think of another RPG that has ever done that, not even Ultima VI or VII.
But each to their own. ;) |
You Guys!!!
HAhA! i adore this...
I must reply to this... I started this thread... a thread like most other... and after half a year itīs nothing more then bashing on other ppls tips... AND to all recommending Arcanum....................... WTF? i tried to play. honestly... Just didnīt know how to advance... couldnīt finnish missions and sell crappy stuff... dunno what whas wrong... the game whas just whacked... I donīt remember if i whas recomended the patch that dude on the other site had maid himself... you all that have played the game might know what patch and what dude im talking about... I have now decided that itīs time to play Realms of arcania Shadow over riva again.... and hopefully have a chans to complete the game.... I just canīt find anyone that sells the game in sweden... I whas hoping for some tips on that side... I have been looking around on the web and have come upp with the results Amazon sells it but doesnīt ship it over sees or something.... ANYways im stumbling here.... Mail me some tips on how to get it cheap plz.... PEACE |
Get your hands on the original BG and play through the series, its easily the best rpg series ever made, i envy anyone who has never played it, its fantastic.

Another game I couldn't complete was Arcanum (Although brilliant). I was playing a Thief/Mage char, And I stole some items from a museum. One was a quest item (Unbeknowest at the time, some fur I think?) and I sold it and it disapeared. It just got me down to get so far but unable to complete that i never played it again. I still have the CD maybe I'll play it again some day... The best RPG i have ever played would have to be Ultima VII part 2 The Serpent Isle. closely followed by Final Fantasy VII (On PS2). Both amazingly atmsopheric games which totally suck you into the game world. |
