Anyone remember the Imagination (Sierra) Network?
The birth of MMORPG. Ran across this in wikipedia. Remember this commercial? I remember I was in awe at the time. The interface was very cool. Things have come a long ways. I still have all the Sierra Online client games. I never got much of a chance to use them, though.
I guess there is a group that is developing a server emulator to bring it back. They are using DOSBox and the original game code to connect to their new software. |
Yeah, I remember it...I also remember the gigantic phone bill it cost me to dial into it. ;)
|
And it's already working, been on it recently, via dosbox.
More info@ http://www.mightyseek.com/misc/imagination-lives-again Dosbox installer and explaination@ http://www.mightyseek.com/innrevival-installer/ Works fine. :) |
Wait... so the first MMO's also forced you to pay monthly fees?
:( |
Modern MMORPGs dont charge you monthly fees?
Although I caught this wave slightly later, being an Ultima Online and then Anarchy Online player, I paid fees and phone bills and in terms of what little money I had, it cost me a lot! But they are so damn addictive... |
I wonder if the client side software for these games would be considered abandonware. Might be kinda fun for some Abandonians to experience this.
Is the software available for download anywhere else? I can't imagine that the Imagination client that can be downloaded from here has complete copies of the Red Baron and The Shadow of Yserbius. |
I remember it never worked very well.
Dammit, now you've made me crave Sorcerian, of all things! :) |
They have The Shadow of Yserbius working but I couldn't find Red Baron anywhere. Still some work to be done. I was on for an hour last night creating my computer representation/avatar. It's scary how much one of them looks like me.
|
Well, I remember it now. :amused: Its been a long time! I never signed up for it, but I tried it once.
