Good Pentium 2 Games?

What are some good pentium 2 games?
Specs:
Pentium 2 (w/MMX) 355mhz
256mb Ram
ATI 3D Rage Pro 8mb
10gb hdd

recommend some games, avoid: Age of Empires, C&C, Carmageddon, HOMM series as I have already installed them :)

half life!
from rpgs fallouts, septeracore, baldur's gate or icewind dale
and you can try croc 2, it was fun

Office_Monk 01-02-2008 07:01 PM

Knights and Merchants, NFS up to Porsche Unleashed, WCW Nitro, Tomb Raider up to 3, FIFA Soccer up to 2003.

-> Unreal runs fine on a P2 (the original one of course) and sequel Return to Na Pali. You even can go online. -(in fact a 'must try' if you're in FPS stuff)-
-> Quake2.

-> Jane's Longbow 2, is excellent, if you like heli combat sims.
-> Comanche 3 should also be fine on a P2 (not sure, I've played it on a P3)

-> Tombraider t'll TR5 can go on a P2 I thought, but all those TRs sux anyway, to avoid. TR series =>

You know, it would be easier if you stated WHAT GENRE of games you like.

*Seconds Half-Life, and of course OpFor and Blue Shift.

Burger Meister 01-02-2008 07:25 PM

RTS/Strategies are my favourite, then fps.

I've played Unreal Tournament on that pc before so I know it works. Half-life of course I've played lol, my cousins always played it and I was at their house a lot.

dosraider 01-02-2008 07:31 PM

Unreal is nót UT, I completely dislike UT but still play Unreal online (COOP).
It are two completely different games.

Strife also comes in mind, it's one of the better mixtures of FPS/Strategy games I know.

Burger Meister 01-02-2008 07:39 PM

I haven't tried Unreal, I played Unreal Tournament... how do you not like Unreal Tournament, it's very fun and easy to get into. Strife you say? I'll have to look that up!

_r.u.s.s. 01-02-2008 07:51 PM

Oh, i remembered: kingpin
i loved that game

Burger Meister 02-02-2008 05:52 AM

I remember seeing kingpin played by my cousins + friends at a lan party...

PS: Excuse me, I'm drunk, just got back from friend's party... Shame on me!

Longest journey - great adventure game
Warlords: Battlecry - first rts that involved heroes
No one lives forever - the first one might work
Sim City 3000 - need I say more?

Eagle of Fire 02-02-2008 11:48 AM

Colonization, Civilization, C&C, Z, Cannon Fodder... Hell, practically all the games here on Abandonia should work fine on a P2 if you have native DOS installed. :)

Burger Meister 02-02-2008 01:28 PM

I'm reformatting to win 98, that's the last version with native dos right? If not I have dos somewhere on diskettes and I'll install. It used to be on that computer.

dosraider 02-02-2008 02:07 PM

Native dos? yes and no, emm386 and himen (amongst others ...) are not the same as under MSDos6.22. This can cause memory problems with some games.
Of course if you want 'native' dos you always can install a bootmanager and do a dual-boot system(W98-Dos6.22).
Or use a bootflop, but that's a shame on a P2.

Burger Meister 03-02-2008 02:06 PM

well when we first got this pentium 2, it had a tri-boot... We had Windows NT (for my dad's work), Windows 95 (for me and my brothers to game) and we had DOS 5.0

The Fifth Horseman 03-02-2008 03:47 PM

How about Soul Reaver? IIRC, it should run on these specs.

_r.u.s.s. 03-02-2008 03:50 PM

yeah, i played legacy of kain: soulreaver on my p2. and also recommend

Burger - Definitely Fallout 1 & 2
From RTS try Krush Kill & Destroy or Red Alert. ;)

Scatty 04-02-2008 12:23 AM

As for RTS:
-----------

Total Annihilation
Total Annihilation - Kingdoms (this one in Fantasy direction)
Dark Reign
Z (like that one)
KKND (Krush, Kill 'N' Destroy)
KKND 2
Starcraft (+ Broodwar expansion)

Interesting 3D shooters:
-----------------------

Panzer Dragoon
Aliens Versus Predator (Gold Edition)

Star Wars: Jedi Knight (+ Mysteries of the Sith - recommended)
Descent II (looks great in high resolutions, which require at least Pentium 133)
MDK
MDK 2
Hexen II
Heretic II
Mechwarrior II - Mercenaries
Outcast
Serious Sam (The First and The Second Encounter(s))
System Shock 2 (this one is less of a shooter, some RPG elements and horror)
Thief II - The Metal Age (again only to 90% a 3D Shooter)
Turok
Turok II

These ones should be able to run on your Pentium II 350 more or less fast enough.

Windows 98's EMM386 and HIMEM.SYS have more efficient conventional (620 kb) memory management than their predecessors from Dos 6.22 or earlier (more memory available), and very recommended to use instead of the latter ones. I also never encountered any problems with any DOS game using them.

I've played both fallouts (loved them) and I've played and own every single game in the C&C series. I will try krush kill & destroy

Nice list, I'm obtaining a lot of these recommended games right now and I already own about half of them. Note: Serious Sam 1 doesn't work well enough on the specs I have (GFX card is too weak) and Serious Sam Second Encounter runs at about 5fps. Serious Sam Second Encounter asks for a p3 I believe.

Diablo, Diablo 2

Ultima Underworld (1 and 2 - but i guess these have reviews on Abandonia already....). Indeed all Abandonia games should work here.

Then the Doom series and games made on same engine...
Hitman might also work.
Jedi knight outcast.
then plenty of sports games like NBA 2000 etc.

Oh i too would recomend Unreal - the graphics are so nice... i simply love those waterfalls...Makes you want to stay on Na Pali.
