Excelent game! Thank you Sebatianos and Kon-Tiki for this game! :ok:
|
You're welcome!
:bye: |
I like this game, but I cant hear any music. Just sounds. Tried vdm and dosbox. Does it have music?
|
It only has music at some parts - sorry.
The file would be much larger otherwise. |
Is this now a puzzle game or more a action based game with puzzles in it??
 |
You could say it's a maze with puzzles and a lot of actions.
Yu can't really put it in one category and you shouldn't make up new subcategories just so you could put the game in the right drawer... |
How can I control this game? It's running well on my XP SP2, but I can't "hit" the enemies, no button assigned to it.
Am I missing something? Please help me out! Sorry for my poor english :( |
I don't remeber right now, but try all the keys!
I think it's Y and X (I'll check it when I come home from work and let you know)! |
i still cannot run the game even with the latest dosbox this game run in xp ?
|
I can't run the game after I installed the game with dosbox. It keeps saying"Provide full path of where installed on HD" when I try to run the game.
Someone ideas? regards, Paul |
Try running the file called Game.bat (instead of Divil.exe). It should work :ok:
|
I cannot get the game to work. I have installed it and ran every exe, and it still does not run. Any suggestions :help:
|
Did you either install the game to C:\Divil or mount it like that under DosBox? It won't work otherwise.
|
i keep getting Windows error 0 running "C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\install\INSTALL.EXE" message from winzip when i try unzip the file. error 0 means "Out of memory"... which doesn't make any sense to me (never had this problem before). downloaded another game from this website and it unzipped just fine. so how can i and this lovely litil divil game be united once again? if it has any meaning i still am running on a win98 :D
|
Sorry to say Xuxu, but this game doesn't run on Win. You need a programme called DOSBox (you can find a link to it among the programes - on our main site).
|
hei sebastianos! i got it to install eventually with dosbox after first finding out how to get this zip file unzipped. :) anyway, i got some problems now with the running of the game.. there was a previous post here about it needing a full path to HD written.. to which you had replied to run the game.bat file instead.. did that and now it says "MCDEX must be loaded. program has to be run from original CD."
peace, xuxu |
Well this game doesn't need a CD (I should know - I play it without a CD and it works fine).
You need to unzip everything in the folder/directory I mentioned before. |
|
Here's what you do (it's been a long time since I did this review):
download the file unzip the file run DOSBox go to the folder where you unzipped the game INSTALL (you need to exit DOSBox and restart it again) go to the folder where you intaled the game to start GAME.BAT it should run. EDIT: Hmm... Looks like you did everything right... I reinstalled teh game - but what I did I wrote here. The game works for me. This might sound stupid, but try putting just about any CD in and before you run it mount the CD device (mount d e:\ -t cdrom) |
just mount any folder as cdrom
so mount d c:\ -t cdrom will probably work as well |
thanks for these suggestions -- it didn't ask anymore for the cdrom :ok: after i had mounted like you two suggested but now after i type in the "game" it quickly says something about initializing and then after that i only see black screen and nothing happens after that. (and whole program ends up freezing.) where to from here?
|
ok guys, i just started it all over again, even with installing DOSBox.. it works now!! :) thanks for the help! :ok:
|
hey, nice game, you havent got some way of download all the music and sounds for it as well...?! :P
|
I keep getting the following message.
MCDEX must be loaded. Program has to be run from original CD has XP. using DOSBox 0.63. tried everything ppl said here already. can any1 please help me out?? I had the original game years ago, on a big black floppy..... cant wait to play it again. thanx |
i keep getting a message of MCDEX needed to be loaded message.
can any1 please help me? i m running the DOSBox0.63 on WinXP. thnx |
1 - download game (to c:\)
2 - unzip game to a folder c:\ld (this folder needs to be created) 3 - download DOSBox .63 4 - install DOSBox .63 5 - run DOSBox .63: (type the lines and press enter after each one) mount c c:\ mount d X:\ -t cdrom (for X use the letter of your CDROM drive) c: cd ld install (choose the folder you wish to install it too) start You can read more about this in DOSBox manual - by Anubis |
Thanks alot! Works fine for me but i miss the music... how much bigger would the file be if you added all music?
Also, I got stuck! Anyone who knows what to do in the jump-from-stone-to-stone room? |
As far as I remember you need to get to the other side (but I think you need some things before entering). It's been so long since I played it last...
For the music - well it's not really that awesome, but it would be nice if we could add it. But the files are rather big - and we are trying to save as much bandwidth as possible. |
What files make up the music?
I've got the cd version of the game (regrettably I lost my code wheel :wall: ), and the entire cd is barely larger then what the abandonia download installs on your system  The GFX on the cd is about as large as the GFX installed by the download, the GFX the cd installs is only 1.31 MB... The music can't be that big. Or am I missing something? EDIT: Off topic, I suddenly noticed my cd has a label warning not to play track one on any audio cd player. Made me smile ^_^ |
Hmm... Maybe I confused it with another game...
|
well... its pretty obvious. But when i jumped the short wa to the last stone there is a face in the wall there thats barbequing me.. i dont get what the hell to do! Help me someone
|
You'll need to buy the bucket. If you have the bucket, you'll splash water in its face and it will melt away, allowing you to pass.

I can't get the cheats to work at all. Can anyone help?
Just getting this game to install and run was a challenge. I used regular DOS and had to manually edit DIVIL.BAT, then had to install EMM386.EXE, and finally had to use FAKECD.EXE to get it working. Anyone have a proper crack which will alleviate all of these steps? The game runs, but when I try to start with one of the cheat codes, using the method instructed in the cheats.doc file, for example: DIVIL Nicole or, DIVIL MEANING, etc the game runs but cheat remains inactive. Am I missing something? |
Hello guys,
i can't start this game... :( I've installed it like descripted here... But my Result is this: http://img299.imageshack.us/img299/5572/divilkz6.th.gif could you help me please?! :kosta: |
According to the review, you should run INSTALL first.
|
I've allready done that. Installation was with sound.
I've you'd read my post, you would see, i've installed it... :sos: |
Let's see...

This is a good game brings me back
|
hi everyone!
i read all your suggestions but i still can't run that game. i installed dosbox 0.70 and use windows xp. i put it into c:\ld then dosbox: mount c c:\ld c: install ok, it worked fine, it installed it into c:\divil then dosbox: mount c c:\divil game "run setup in directory where you installed on hd" .......i allready did it, but it still doesn't work!!!!!! can anybody help me? |
Here's what happened, I think:
The first "mounting" created a fake hdd in the c:\ld folder/directory. This is the folder/directory you installed the game to. Now, the second "mounting" redefines the fake hdd. Now it is the c:\divil folder. What you want is to stick to the first "mounting" and there you will find the divil directory as you installed it. Have that ld mounted, and when you get the c:\> prompt and type "dir" you should see a directory called "divil". |
thanks for your support,
it's right, the divil folder is in c:\ld but the dosbox still cannot run the game. mount c c:\ld\divil c: dir game and then the same error message as before.... |
nono, see, you run the game from pure c: virtual direcotory, and its installed in c:\divil
now delete the game, unpack it again and do the following: put the game in to c:\ld (for example) in dosbox: mount c c:\ld c: install <install the game in to c:\divil> now DO NOT REMOUNT DOSBOX just type: cd c:\divil game and each time you want to play the game again after you turn off the dosbox. run dosbox and type: mount c c:\ld cd divil game |
Just to add to russ' post.
If you open the DOSBox configuration file, either via "Start" -> "Programs" or directly using notepad, you will find a line saying "autoexec". On the line below that, you type mount c c:\ld. Then, on the next line you type c:\ This way you will automaticly mount c:\ld when you start dosbox, and the last line changes the prompt from x:\> to c:\> |
thanks to you! no it works! i have to load mcdex all the time, but it doesn't matter;)
|
Hey there; I just installed Litil Divil and started it with DOSBox 0.70.
The game seems to run perfectly, except that it only responds to the arrow keys on my keyboard. E.g., when I press 'Z' or 'X' (default fire button #1 and #2), nothing happens. I have already tried every other key on my keyboard, but none of them seems to do anything (including F3, which should normally pop-up the "Quit / Play again / Load" screen). I also redefined the keys through setup.exe, but that didn't help either :( Anyone have any ideas? |
you need to hold the keys while pressing an arrow
|
...
*hits himself on the forehead* The one thing I *didn't* try... I feel sooooo stupid right now :) Thanks for the solution! |
Tried the above:
put the game in to c:\ld (for example) in dosbox: mount c c:\ld c: install <install the game in to c:\divil> now DO NOT REMOUNT DOSBOX just type: cd c:\divil game Didnt work for me. Well, everything works fine until I get "the game must run from original CD" together with a prompt for mcdex (?) |
The almost neverending installing of this crap was big waste of time.(period)
|
This is now available on GOG: http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/litil_divil :OK:
|
Litil Divil is highly underrated. There's nice variety of scenes, its easy to play and very fun. Its like an interactive cartoon. Its also one of the very, very few games that makes Philips CD-I worth getting.
I dont know if GOG version is fully orchestrated, but if it isnt, I recommend trying the CD-I or Amiga 32 versions. Along with excellent graphics, they have excellent CD quality audio. |
