Rogue 30-11-2004 01:16 PM

I like to get one FPS, but as I don't like to update my computer just to be able to play Doom3 or HL2 (don't know requirements for Hallo2, but they might be kind of high), so I will be looking for something new. (I got only two more weeks of classes left, then 2-3 weeks for games... :))

There are couple of games with WWII theme, like Medial of Honor and Call of Duty, and there is a bit old now Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

So what do you think is worth buying, what did you try and what did you hear? :)

NOTE: I liked Tribes 1 and 2, but I suck at multiplayer....

Sebatianos 30-11-2004 01:19 PM

What's new and cool?
THIS!!!

Kon-Tiki 30-11-2004 01:20 PM

Can't say it's new (1995 or so... last one using the engine of Doom... and that sounded cheezy), but you can try Strife out. It's a FPS RPG, set in the future, but looking medieval for two third of the time. It's 'bout some rebellion and some religious cops or something like that. Been a while since I've played it, but it's cool enough :ok:

Rogue 30-11-2004 01:21 PM

:roflol:

Noth that cold... :bleh: LOL

When I saw the URL, I remember something...

'Ako zelis da ispeces voljeno stvorenje,
mokrovalne pecnice, gorenje - velenje.

:D

N17R0 30-11-2004 01:21 PM

Unreal Tournament 2004 is REALLY fun, especially if you're into games like Tribes. I also highly recommend Call of Duty, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, and Battlefield 1942 (especially with the Weapons of World War II addon) for historical battles.

TheVoid 30-11-2004 01:22 PM

I tried Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and can say you won't waste your money if you buy this. It's a great game, and the atmosphere is sublime.

Are you quoting Bora Djordjevic?
Sorry - was :ot: . but I had to put that URL there!

N17R0 30-11-2004 01:23 PM

RTCW is VERY fun indeed. I think there's a lot of people who still play multiplayer. Too bad the label on my cd is scratched so Ican't play anymore. :(

Was that him? Not sure... but sounded really creepy (so it might be him) :D

I'm kind of lost with all these WWII games. Is there something better in some of titles then in others?

N17R0 30-11-2004 01:32 PM

Call of Duty and Medal of Honor have single player campaigns and then multiplayer deathmatch and scenarios. BF1942 however plays more like a wide-scale war simulation both single and multi, and has different objectives, morale, and other interesting little things different with each mission.

Rogue 30-11-2004 01:40 PM

Thanks!

Last night watched small documentary about making of COD game. It's really impressive amount of work put in the game to make it so authentic. (Game artists were send in 8 cities in Europe to make realistic building drawing, sound artists recorded real sound of weapons, etc...)

So I decided that I should try one of the games, and this will help me decide which one. (And if I like it, I’’ probably will get other titles too :))

wormpaul 30-11-2004 01:43 PM

I think RTCW is very well...got a nice feeling in it :ok: (and a great FREE mutiplayer ET if you wanna try)

Titan 30-11-2004 01:46 PM

*SERIOUS TIP*

Unreal Tournament (the original one) and play with some mod, like Strike Force..

I still play it.. it's major fun :)

punch999 30-11-2004 02:10 PM

Did he just state NOT HL2?

Rogue 30-11-2004 02:36 PM

Yes, no HL2 or Doom3. HL2 and Doom3 should run on my computer, but it would be kind of annoying to try to play it with my current hardware. (My current video card is not that bad, but it has a nice feature of video in/out that I need, so I don't plan to change it soon)

I'll get new titles only after I upgrade PC. (Sometimes next year)

N17R0 30-11-2004 02:41 PM

Hmm, upgrade.....I'd really love to try and get SLI technology.
But between two nVidia 6800s and a motherboard that supports SLI, that's $800...that I don't have.

Timpsi 30-11-2004 03:27 PM

So, it's WW2 games you want How about Battlefield 1942 or Hidden & Dangerous 1 and 2?

For other than WW2, perhaps System Shock 1&2, the Thief games, and Jedi Knight would be good.

Chef Boyardee 30-11-2004 05:04 PM

Didn't that new FPS Vampire: the Masquerade game come out recently that's supposed to be a mix of RPG and shooter? I bet that would be pretty cool.

Yamcha 30-11-2004 06:58 PM

Strange cuz fps is also frames per second it's making me LOL Anyway halo 2 is only Xbox :ranting: I wont get it annyway

N17R0 30-11-2004 07:04 PM

The newest Vampire game is Bloodlines which just came out, Masquerade has been out for a while.

Ioncannon 30-11-2004 11:48 PM

bloodlnies uses HL2s SOURCE engine so he would need to upgrade... Try out Thief 3 (or 11 and 2 if you can find em) really fun stealth game. I LOVE IT TOO!!!!!!

Chef Boyardee 01-12-2004 03:53 AM

No, the series is called Vampire: the Masquerade. The games are called V:tM - Bloodlines and V:tM - Redemption. Hahaha. I read the books a long time ago.

Iron_Scarecrow 01-12-2004 05:42 AM

Red Faction is a great game should try it out, haven't tried the second myself but I'm assuming it's good. The thing I love about RF is that there are no breaks, just one long continuous journey. :ok:

Also Unreal 2 is an excellent game.

Jedi Knight 2 also.

Alien vs Predator is also pretty damn good.

Mafia is good although I never really got into it.

But Soldier of Fortune 2 would have to be one of the best. :ok:

Maikel 01-12-2004 07:37 AM

An older and very underrated fps is Clive Barkers: Undying

it uses the unreal tournament 1 engine and is sure to scare you a couple of times :)

To bad you can't play halflife 2, since it is very...very...VERY good!

wormpaul 01-12-2004 08:39 AM

Indeed...

Undying is very good game...and shouldn't be to expensive these days :ok:

evilded 01-12-2004 10:27 AM

System shock 2 is a great FPS, not new but definitly cool.

FreeFreddy 01-12-2004 12:21 PM

Well, System Shock 2 is not really an FPS, rather FPS + Adventure + Horror.

wormpaul 08-12-2004 09:35 AM

Just playing now:

Thirteen (with the Romans letters...)

XIII

Extremly good game...really cool :ok:

Iron_Scarecrow 08-12-2004 09:49 AM

Are the graphics in that Cartoonish?

wormpaul 08-12-2004 09:54 AM

What you mean: Cell Shaded (japanes style)

And that`s very cool...only after a while you won't notice it anymore...you're totally sucked up in the game that it feels totally natural :ok:

Iron_Scarecrow 08-12-2004 10:00 AM

Yeah I suppose that's what I mean. LOL LOL

But my brother has it on X Box and he said pretty much the same thing you just did. :ok:

Ioncannon 08-12-2004 10:13 AM

hmm isn't System Shock 2 abandonware? I remeber its possible to dl off underdogs.

wormpaul 08-12-2004 10:16 AM

I think it's abandonned..

I had it on my pc a while ago :ok:

Iron_Scarecrow 08-12-2004 10:20 AM

I was thinking of downloading it. But size stopped me. It would take too long, and for all that time, and download size, I didn't want it to be a waste. So I didn't in the end just to be safe. :ok:

The Niles 08-12-2004 10:29 AM

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is kicking up a storm. Never been into FPS much so I cannot help you more then that.

Is STALKER already released??

I thought this game still needs to come to shops...

The Niles 08-12-2004 11:41 AM

It will be released very soon but it is has not been released just yet. Game critics are heralding it as the next big things though.

Eagle of Fire 08-12-2004 09:04 PM

They said the same thing about Doom3.

:roflol:

N17R0 08-12-2004 11:31 PM

the emoticon says it all for that statement Eagle of Fire.

Classic Pig 09-12-2004 01:49 AM

The original Unreal Tournament is, to me, one of the all time best FPS made. It is possible to mod it in so many ways etc etc. Gameplay is really good and you don't need thousands of dollars of hardware to play it.
:sniper: (HEAD SHOT!)

I agree about doom 3 being :roflol: ! I got it and finished it same day - did not enjoy it! :ot: but anyhow!

Systam Shock 1 is abandoned - not too sure about 2 but it is best described as action/fps/rpg/horror/sci-fi... You get the idea!

The Niles 09-12-2004 07:56 AM

Doom3 wasn't that bad but you do need a pretty impressive rig to play it decently. If all future (the near future) games will look like Doom3 we can be assured of some nice games to look at. It was a little dull I agree but as homage to the classic Doom it was totally playable.

wormpaul 09-12-2004 08:17 AM

For me was DOOM 3 just too dark..

I just wanna say enemy`s coming and then have a nice fight against them....and not that i get killed only because the game was too dark and you couldnt see your enemy...

That has nothing to do with skills or excitning

Iron_Scarecrow 09-12-2004 09:27 AM

Well I heard Doom 3 is a great game to play. One of my brother's friends is scared to play it. LOL

I just got myself a demo of it, first three levels, probably try it on the weekend. :ok:

About Unreal Tournament. The only thing that was better in the original than in 2003 was the sniper rifle. The lightning gun sucks a fat one and the zoom view is really annoying. If they kept the original sniper rifle it would be the greatest game on earth. :ok:

The Niles 09-12-2004 09:28 AM

For me it was not too dark just dark. You need a steady pace and not rush through the levels use the flashlight to see into dark corners and most of all LISTEN. You might not see your enemies but you can hear them. If you do try and find out where they are and throw a grenade down there. Problem solved.

Iron_Scarecrow 11-12-2004 08:56 AM

Finished the demo. First 3 levels. :ok:

I loved it. Hope I get the chance to play the full game.

Love the darkness, and how things just jump out at you from nowhere, some parts are really freaky, cause you run into something then go back a room or two and find out there is one behind you then your sandwhiched between the two. Freaky muck.
