I have one sitting between my ps2 and 360 :D had it for a while but the request for "incoming" in the rejected requests reminded me that i had always wanted that game :) so, anyone else got one of these gems?
|
I use to own one but I traded it in when I noticed it had absolutely no games.
That was a few months before it totally died. It wasn't a bad console, but I mean, it was so unremarkable. |

how can you say it has no games when i have about 20-30 right now. plus i'm trying to get homebrew working (they don't give clear instructions on how to burn scummvm so i've wasted at least 3 cd's trying)
|
Compared to other consoles it had like 5, and a lot of them weren't really worth playing. I had like a tennis game that was really good, one of the Shenmue games (which I didn't really like) and then some weird behind game about skating and graffiti that I can't remember the name of but I liked it.
|
I still have my Dreamcast. I haven't played it for a long time because the controller is broken and I don't have a VM anymore, but I know what BP means. There were a few good games on there, but not loads of them like other consoles. However, I must point out that so far no one has mentioned Blue Stinger or Shadow Man. Awesome games.
EDIT : And Incoming. Good fun. |
haven't really had chance to try blue stinger although i do have it. i did know about shadowman but in this case, the pc version is better. and can anyone help on trying to burn scummvm 0.10? i just used my 6th disc on it and it still won't boot
@blood-piggy: that skating game your referring to is "jet set radio" to let you know. |

no, cd-r. it recognizes the disc is in the drive but it the goes straight to the bios screen. i know my dc is homebrew capable due to the fact it boots backups (plus the utopia boot disc works fine)
|
i meant, why not using rws at first if it keeps failing?
|
most dreamcast's can't read cd-rw's, mine included.

psx and n64 were seriously toned down from PC while DC got the best console version. and i got scummvm working in the end. had to download the BASS compilation cd from dc evolution and replace the lp.bin and 1st_read.bin with the ones from the BASS cd. then burnt as a data/data with bootdreams. now i have sam and max, simon the sorceror, BASS and maniac mansion on my DC :D
|
Ah, the dreamcast. I recall somewhere reading that it was "The best console you never purchased." How true.
|
I once played a boxing game on the Dreamcast.
That was quite cool. You had to train your boxer with different excercises that required the money that you won from your (won) fights. I remember that I played the character Angel "Raging" Rivera! :D He was a latino so his first name was pronounced "Unn Kchell". The last fight was against the Devil himself. Of course I won that one too... :max: But I like these "Do-sports-successfully-earn-money-and-improve-by-it"-games anyways. :ok: |
I never heard of one until I played one. That tells about the poor marketing it had. It's a shame because it was an interesting console.
I loved Soul Calibur so much. :) |

My favourite game was a fishing game, called Bass Fishing, I reckon.
Probably the first console with a fishing rod. The Dreamcast did some kind of pioneer work which now led to the Wiiii. Just for that an awesome console :ok: |

I actually was part of the team that wrote the softmodem code for that box!!! Ahhh, good memories :o |
You cant say dreamcast was "ordinary" when it had Sega Rally 2 Championship :D I still play that game regularly, both at home and on the local arcade :P
(04:01:07 for my fellow rallyers) |
Yeah I have a Dreamcast, there were a lot of good games for it. Shenmue, Sonic, Jet Set/Grind Radio, Space Channel 5, SEGA Rally, Grandia, Soul Calibre, Dead or Alive, Phantasy Star Online, Power Stone...
Only I think it was a little ahead of it's time in some respects. It would have been great with wireless or broadband, but instead we were stuck with 28/56k modems and a very limited amount of broadband adapters were sold in Japan. |
One of the best gaming platforms ever, far better than Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2.

Well, that's definately not true at all. What's right is that the cd-roms were called GDs. But the name's all what's different. You can copy every GD with the right program. Not a problem at all...!!! And well, in my opinion it was one of the greatest platforms at the time. No, it WAS the greatest platform at its time. Most people were blinded by the holy crap of what was called the Playstation. Which had definately more games. But even more games that were simply dumb and really bad... |

Not a problem at all...!!!
You don't just need the right program to copy a GD-ROM, common CD burners don't read GDs, so you need a special cable to connect your dreamcast to your PC, and one other thing, a GD has like 1GB of space, and as Dreamcasts can't read DVDs some heavy games have to be ripped so they can fit in a CD. |
it is possible for some normal drives to read GD-Rom's with hacked firmwares. they have to read at x1\x2 speed though. or you can use either a broadband adapter or dreamcast coders cable. BBA is faster though. and people have been working on getting 99min cdr's to burn so they work in the dreamcast, with varying results.
|
Well, fine. But that's just a matter of how the Data-Stream is put on the discs. A GD still keeps being a CD-ROM. You don't give an amiga-floppy-disk another name just because you can't read them on your computer...
But I don't wanna distract from the point where I was wrong :D Thought it wasn't a problem cause you can simply download images of DC-Games and burn them with appropriate software and play them on your DC... But now: thyt's not a problem at all :D Anyway, the DC rocks :) |

Well, I guess you chose the complicated way ;)
I got Resident Evil2 this way, since I was dumb enough to sell it when I owned it :( |
there is no easy way to get flashback on dc since you need to download the REminiscence binaries for it along with the dos data files and amiga mod music files and put them together in the right directory structure before burning with something called "BootDreams" as an AUDIO/DATA disc. you learn this stuff when trying to burn homebrew... :D
|
My friend had a Dreamcast and it sure is a awesome. There were lots of cool games like Jet Set Radio, Sonic Adventures, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Toy Commander.....
Toy Commander was one of my favourites. Where else you could play with a fighter and fight against a giant piano. |
Yep I had a good old dreamcast! Skies of Arcadia was a personal fav! ^_^
|
toy commander was fun in some way but i wouldn't get it out right now to play it. skies of arcadia was a quality rpg as well though :)
|
Skies of Arcadia is a true classic. I managed to pick one up quite cheaply second-hand, but they go for good money these days!
Also, I wish I had £100 to spare on Samba de Amigo! Like a dance mat game, but 100x better. :ok: |

Mine's still alive and kicking, since it's a little hard to find something to buy for it nowdays, I usually grab some of the good free stuff dcevolution as to offer.

I love my Dreamcast! If you're into fighting games, it had pretty much any fighter you could ever want. And you can burn dreamcast cd images and play them without any modding! What else do you need out of life? I still play Project Justice at least once a month with some buddies who are big into fighting games. That and Power Stone are probably my favorite Dreamcast fighting games.
Even the bad games are good like Zombie Revenge and Cannon Spike! ... now that I think about it, if you're a Capcom fan, you're probably a Dreamcast fan. |

Yep, it was the sequel to Rival Schools. Project Justice is probably my favorite of the weird quirky fighting games out there. |
My cousins have it. It's pretty neat to play Soul Calibur on it.
