I have been meaning to download the demo's for this for a few months and was really suprised to see how polished and great the game looks, so for anybody who has not seen it yet -

http://www.telltalegames.com/samandmax

I haven't got the cash at the moment but I will certainly be looking to buy the full season disk as at $34.99 for six games it's pretty well priced

Blood-Pigggy 30-06-2007 10:39 PM

I'm going to buy them over Steam when I get the chance, you can get all the Episodes for $40 combined, so I think the official site has a better price, but whatever.

Lulu_Jane 01-07-2007 10:58 AM

I've heard really good things about the "new" Sam and Max, which surprised me *cough* "Neo" Monkey Island *cough cough* so I think I'll be getting them too...

Blood-Pigggy 01-07-2007 05:37 PM

Escape From Monkey Island was good, Monkey Kombat just sucked balls.

steam? why bother with steam?
i'd wait for a disc to come rather than put that crap on my computer

Blood-Pigggy 01-07-2007 09:25 PM

Steam is a good service, you're just terrible at understanding my opinion on it.

JJXB 01-07-2007 10:24 PM

umm... when it screws up a whole install and won't uninstall you tend to hate it.

Blood-Pigggy 02-07-2007 05:44 PM

Lol, sucks for you because I've actually had less install problems with Steam than I ever did with a bunch of disks.

guesst 03-07-2007 03:20 PM

Well then, let me chime in with my dislike of Steam. Oh, install went fine, and uninstall did too. I just loaded it to play project gordon and the demo for that kungfu game. Not only were they both kinda disapointing, but I had to wait every time I wanted to play them for steam to re-download content from valve which ended up taking far far too long in my opinion. Forgive me, but I'm accostomed to ahving a game on my hard drive and being able to play in at a moment's notice. With steam it feels like I'm going back to the load times of my C64.

Blood-Pigggy 03-07-2007 04:45 PM

That's a problem with your own PC, since all the demos and freeware games load right off the bat as you install them, no updates from Valve on them, ever.

Having played, beaten and purchased all current sam & max episodes I would suggest getting them from the telltale games website. I believe its only 30 some dollars and you can get the discs and plenty of cool extras for the cost of shipping. As a whole the 1st season of Sam&Max is good, there are a few iffy episodes in the middle but as a whole theyre fully entertaining and pretty true to the source.

I've played one or two of the new episodes. They're good, and do recapture the feel of the original. Looks like they had a bit of fun creating it.

Due to the nature of the delivery, there is much less freedom in these games, with only a limited amount of locations at any one given time.

kbutcher5 19-08-2007 08:11 PM

The original was awesome, and number 2 doesn't look far off either, i think these games might get up there with the golden gods, heard lots of positive info about these games :)

Nodal 24-08-2007 01:42 AM

I also have to say don't think of it as 6 games. I completed Part 1 in about 2 hours without a guide, so unless 6 games take you 12 hours...

krypticn 29-08-2007 07:36 PM

sam and max was awsome any idea if there is one with the voices?

Not too sure what you mean Krypt... the original CD version of the game had speech (as do all the new episodes). Abandonia doesn't generally upload the full CD version to the webside because of the massive size of the file.

"Hit the Road" has now been released into the bargain bin for less than £20 - head down your local computer shop and buy it!

if you are having trouble with getting sound on the game, with post the error messages here or PM me so I can see if I can help...

JJXB 29-08-2007 11:41 PM

ive played the original with and without voices. luckily i own the sam and max/DOTT double cd so i have the full talkie. i managed to get hold of the newer ones but they didn't load for some stupid reason.

Dogwolf 02-09-2007 10:25 AM

The original is one of my favourite all time adventure games!

BranjoHello 20-05-2008 03:17 PM

I have just seen this...
http://www.mobygames.com/game/window...x-hit-the-road
...and now I'm pretty sure that Sam & Max Hit the Road is never going to be abandonware. :(

LucasArts are doing what every self-conscious publisher should: earning money by re-releasing their old games in a form compatibile with modern systems.
On one hand, it prevents the games from becoming AW... on the other, it ensures old hits to remain popular for years to come.

except for monkey Island 1 & 2, I agree. The new episodes aren't bad at all, but it feels too limited in comparison to the first game. Limited in places to go, cartoon violence and wackiness. There still remains a lot of dialogue to enjoy and the music and graphics are great, for me the whole series-concept just seems to be a cheap way to earn money. I would have preferred just one, really big game with more diversity over these small, fun but repetitive chunks of joy.

Burger Meister 22-05-2008 12:25 AM

I got sam & max season 1... I'm on the end of episode 1 right now. It's really fun!

gufu1992 22-05-2008 11:21 PM

I tried the new games, with free episode 4... yeah, I am stuck even after interacting with all possible objects. The guy just won't let me in.

But the humor, is still there... just if wasn't been repeating. :/

To me it captures the spirit of Steve Purcell's original comics far better than LucasArts' ever did, not only that, but the puzzles make more sense. I still consider Sam & Max: Hit The Road to be a really shakey adventure game.

Quite frankly, you shouldn't be buying the episodes one by one, you can buy the entire first series in one pack, and I assume a new pack will be released for the second season as well. You can really only blame yourself for buying into it in the first place.

Spoonman 24-05-2008 08:16 AM

Well, actually it's not as much about the money you pay for it as about talking to the same characters and visiting the same (starting) places over again every episode.
But I do think anxious buyers\fans are being taken advantage of; it's like the advertising tells you "oh come on, buy it.. it's only 9 dollars! Uhm oh, I mean 6 times 9 dollars, unless you'd like to wait until every episode is on the market while all your friends are already halfway season 3". Any game distributor wanting to make money does something similair like that with its game ofcourse, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

cardboard42 07-06-2008 05:28 AM

They mix up the locations and characters more in the second season. I, too was starting to get a bit bored of the same old street by the end of season 1. However, some of the puzzles in season 2 seemed a bit less intuitive then before, especially in episode 4 (IIRC).
