I just got an email from a friend saying Nelly Furtado and her producer Timbaland have stolen music from the Finnish musician: Janne Suni. Janne Suni has created a song called "Acidjazzed evening". Nelly Furtado and Timbaland used this song for their song "Do it".

The original song by Janne Suni:

The song of Nelly Furtado

And here the two songs analyzed with a song editor:

And also check this out:

I just want to share this with you. What do you think of it?

I don't care

Hm well for her kind of music zero level of creativity is needed, so this doesn't suprise me at all.

I don't think you've hearded this song then. There's lots of creativity in there.

Anyway I think it's wrong to steal from artists that don't make money out of music.

They always claim that you should pay for music that's made, but when it comes to stealing from a small artist it's ok? Just because they don't have tons of laywers with them? Then they are the biggest pirates of them all!

So why pay for your music, they don't pay and even make like millions of dollars with this musics..

You now still think it's fair ?

Think of this example : SuperTux, not known to your sister or parents ( majority of the world ), is brought out by EA. They would make milions out of it, just because the game is great. Everybody knows this game then and receives big popularity over the world.

Now .. no credits go to the Linux community, no funding or whatsoever. EA even claims that they own the sources of this game ( it just can be downloaded from the sourceforge pages and modified in any way ).
EA games has lots of Lawyers that can help them, but who's in for the community.

I think you get the drift right now, and this is what happend to the Demoscene community, and it's not the first time it happend.

They should get their ... kicked! They just cannot get away with this.

I think last years stupid song for slovenian Eurovision contest was also a rip off from i belive an italian song. when showed the songs nex tto each other they really did sound alike. same was showed on voice analiser.

what does this prove? that we can't even do a shitty song by ourselves. :-)

Tulac 23-01-2007 11:31 AM

I said that for the kind of music that Nelly Furtado plays, there is no creativity needed, so it doesn't surprise me that they steal from other artists.

Agreed. Who cares about Nelly Furtado? The artist she stole from should be angry that she stole his stuff when any other proper musician could have done so.

If you don't care, then don't post anything !

The Fifth Horseman 23-01-2007 04:36 PM

D-Force, please do not be so agressive to other users. It gives you a bad first impression.

Personally, I never heard of either the original artist and the "artist" who stole the song.
IMO, if anyone stoops so low as to steal others' work and present it as their own, they deserve being drawn and quartered (or mental equivalent of it).

I'm sorry if I offended anyone here, that's not my intention.
It's just that I belong to this Demoscene (been active for like more than 10 years) and I'm always very upset when people don't care when someone is making things for the pleasure of others ( for free ) and that a great artist just walks away with it.

Maybe the persons that replied to this thread even never heard of this demoscene and that's why they don't care. But then again they could do a little research before they say they don't care, or at least just say why you don't care.

Just my point of view.

Himmler 23-01-2007 05:14 PM

Ha ha , that's a good one :ok: !! Never thought of that ..
They should have told me that here. I'm at the moment in Romania and didn't hear anyone about this word.

Himmler 23-01-2007 05:55 PM

it's a common word :P

She's a very good female exemplary... ^_^

JJXB 23-01-2007 06:47 PM

nelly furtardo sounds terrible but add justin timberlake and it makes a really bad combination.

Blood-Pigggy 23-01-2007 07:44 PM

Is she supposed to be a rapper or something? She's terrible, I'd rather listen to talented creative people like Wu-Tang.

This is totally lame pop music.

Good one! :max:

If we spell it a little different (with an "a") our english speaking members could also get a laugh.

BTW one of the most (commercial) successfull "music groups" of my homecountry, which was banned due to the Strategic Arms Reduction Talks, stole a lot. They did not steal from other people but only from themselves!

Any idea who's meant? Well, you can win, if you want, Brother Louis! :sneaky:

Morrin 24-01-2007 04:12 PM

Not that they only ripped the composement, but they goddamn used that song in the background or atleast in same sound and fashion! Question of the day: what the fu*k?

Nick 27-01-2007 12:58 PM

Plagiarism isn't something new. One our Russian band called "Aria", which many people count as great band, stole much riffs and style from Iron Maiden. So I deleted it to Hell, after I got Iron Maiden. Much better than that.

If they payed the original singer/song writers then there is no problem, but what happend here is that they earned big bucks for this and didn't payed the artist that wrote is. That's sad.

Although stealing music is deadly wrong, I think p2p is good for obtaining rare songs that would cost you a lot otherwise. And if you are just using them for personal reasons, I see no reason to stop now.

One of my fave songs (Thinking of You by The Colourfield) was never issued on CD in the UK, and can fetch up to £50 on eBay.

Hmmmm, not really sure what to make of that. Obviously you don't think that it is so deadly wrong that you would never do it... ergo, you don't think that it's wrong at all.
I can reccomend Emusic as a cheap and legal music site - they have some pretty good obscure music on there and not so much mainstream junk.
