Hey guys this game is really good, and is great fun when u finally get into it!
If u don't like the funness of the game how bout cheating and giving the man in the carriage place a lantern, he gives u the staff of ugh, then u give him that and he gives you the ultimate cheat, give him that and he gives you 3 boxes of amazing items! |
Doesnt work for me just gives me a crash addy and back to desktop
Dosbox <- |
I liked the title. Graphics were very similar to Ultima VII though with better resolution (if I recall correctly, and I may be off on the resolution bit). Little interactivity with the environment, few puzzles, little storyline, and no real differences among your characters save the development you give them in different types of combat. When I played it a few years back, I made one a melee specialist, one a ranger, and one great at aggressive spells. All constantly practiced their spells, however. You gain skill levels with practice, something that isn't so common among computerized RPGs.
In short, I didn't find it a true Ultima clone, but it was good enough to be fun. :) |
I really enjoyed this game until.....
from the last save at a certain point it stops. and i found myself on the desktop do you know if there is a programmed time-end? without videos can' t understand if it's a bug or not think i' ve been goin' around from 4 week or a bit more if you know please tell me something tanks |
How do you mean, it just ended? Do you mean the game froze? Or did you suddenly find yourself back at your Windows desktop? What happened?
In any case: no, there's no timed ending. If the game's dying on you, try going back to an old save. |
i have finished the game "years ago" and it is long.. but when u end it .. youll know...
by the way i dont know what agme came 1st but i think ultima sould have learn a thing or two from this game... |

hmm iv having problems getting the Videos to work.
i messed around with he path files for a while and it did nothing under fta2.ini. i even went as far as burning the entire game to a cd. And also mounting as a virtual drive. NOt at the same time of course but at seperate times. For some reason the path configuration is not pointing correctly I cant figure out the exact nature of the problem :( if anyone got the video files to work fine, can they put what they did here plz! ^^ [quote] |
as well as the books and notes ... 50% of them just shut the game off when they get touched
|
I had no problems with the videos (mounted the image with daemon-tools).
About the crashes, consider playing under DOS [use the DOS executable], it seems there are a lot less crashes when reading documents [at least for me under Win98SE]. Does anyone know if there is a patch for the game ? |
just tell me something.. when a carachter dies.. is it possible to get it back?

Darn! I forgot to login first. The above post is mine. As I mentioned in the previous post, I was about to play this game several days ago, but something came up at work and I haven't had a chance to play it at all. However, I have already installed it on my Win2K desktop. To enable the compatibility mode under Win2K, follow the instruction in this website: http://www.windowsitpro.com/Windows/Articl...3388/43388.html
I actually also installed it in my other desktop (WinXP). Since the compatibility mode is already enabled in WinXP, I just needed to set it to Win95 or Win98. The directX checking will be bypassed. Have fun playing. I certainly hope I will be able to do so myself perhaps next month or the month after. |
Ouch... yesterday while reading a review I suddenly found out that FTA2's combat system is turn-based... bummer! Okay, there's absolutely nothing wrong with turn-based, it's just that it's not my cup of tea. I am unsure whether I will still play this game or not.
|
If the game would have a questlogbook it would be much better, also the dialog interface is a joke and how do i know that i got a quest.
At the beginning one npc kolapse before me and i tray to rescue his wife and son (or doughter) from a cave but he doesnot tell me which one.I surfed on the internet and found out that the game was never fully finisched and that some of the quests stayed unsolved ? |
You don't know about quests because the game appeared years before that turned into a standard feature. As for the dialog, at least it's better than Ultima VII's horrific font and yellow type, floating in space above characters (dearly as I love that game).
|
CAN IT BE THAT SOME QUEST ARE TIMELIMITED?UNDER THE GOBLINVILLAGE I FOUND A MOTHER AND HER SON IN A PRISON (DEAD), BUT IN A GAME WHICH I PLAYED EARLIER AFTER 6 DAYS HUNTING BUNDITS AND EXPLORING, I FOUND ONLY BONES.SO I WILL RESTART THE GAME AND GO TO THE GOBLINVILAGE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.THEY MUST BE THE FAMILY OF THE NPC KOLAPSED IN PALIDON(NO IDEA HOW TO WRITE IT, NOW AT WORK) LET SEE WHAT HAPPENS!
ONE OF THE BROTHERS I USE AS A ARCHER, SEEMS TO LOOSE MANY AROWS AT THE BEGINNING BUT LATER HE LEARNS HOW TO HIT. YOUR FRIENDS KEEP CLOSE TO YOU BUT YOUR ENEMIES KILL FROM THE DISTANCE, SPECIALY WHEN THEY DO NOT KNOW WHO HITS THEM. BY THE WAY CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME IF HEAVY ARMOR LIMITS THE DODGE SYSTEM? |
Hmmm.. Is it just me or has nobody mentioned that this game is in fact unfinished (many people and places look like they are part of quests, but they aren't - for example the strange individuals in cottages that you can find around in the woods; also note that in many towns the guards are all unarmed)?
|
think that game is good, but im not quite sure but screens lk good looking forward to play it. Until nexst time :bye: |
The game's great. Indeed, it's unfinished, but quite a few quests are simply implied - you never get a big red label telling you it's a quest, but if you read the stuff you find, and speak around (yes, speaking sometimes helps) it becomes pretty obvious how to solve the quest. Though solving it is also implied - you get some reward, but never a mention.
|
I just launched the game through Dosbox, it works, but it's sooo slow.
I've got 1.7 GHz, 504 Mb RAM, and an ok graphics card (dont remember how much exactly) Can anyone help me with this ? |
The game was released unfinished due to publishers pushing it out the door. A pity really because the guy(s) who made it were great at what they did. I really enjoyed the game in its state as is so it would have been terrific with time to finish it.
By the way, referring to a back post. UltimaVI came after Faery Tale I which this is obviously the sequal to. If you want to compare graphics (not world interaction or gameplay mind) then you should go for an Ultima VIII comparison. That was the closest any Ultima could get to the gfx of these games. Oh, and the guy who wrote FT I and this also wrote a bunch of Amiga titles that some of you might know wuch as Deluxe Music Construction Set 2, Amiga Install Utility, and the CDTV welcome disk. See ya |

Anybody knows how can I capture images of this great game? The "Print Screen" keyboard button (with or without Alt) does nothing, and I've checked the shortcut properties, it's not deactivated. Plus if I load Screen Thief the game just won't run. :help: Thanks in advance guys.
|
Print screen adds a 'photograph' of the current screen into your virtual memory. Go to Paint (or such) and paste. Kazam!
Now what has this got to do with the game? |
Nuttin' :rifle: :ot:
Sorry. :tomato: It's just that *this* particular game doesn't allow the system to use the Print Screen button, that is, I press it relentlessly but then there's nothing in the memory--nothing appears when I go to Paint and paste, even when this works for me with other programs. I could still use some help... :hairpull: Now talking about the game, I'm no fan of RP videogames, but I'm a big fan of this game, the world is great, it's a masterpiece of graphic art and I would grant it the "Best Interface Ever" award. I finished it once without one of the tapstones (and killed Sariloth--he was such a weenie), but then I started another game and I already have the tapstone that I didn't get the previous time (Hethrallin). My question is, do you get some additional clue as to where is the Object of Hope once you have all the tapstones, or do you have to find it with the clues in the lengend books? The other time I explored just everything, I revealed the whole map, and there was no Object of Hope. :tnx: |
Really, this game is really cool! Ultima 9 was boring compared to the rest of them ( :wallbash: ), but Halls of the Dead makes up for that. But it is really hard.
|
Reup's interpretation of this question
A messsage appears saying sound card not detected, then a thing like this is written lowes saying continue anyway?? and thesse things _yes or _no I can't click them like that!!!! Would you be so kind to help me? Edit by Reup: Come on man, try to formulate your question at least in a little bit decent way. This way know-one is ever going to help you. |
Dos, Windows (which one?), DosBox?
|
I just got a copy of faery tale adventure 2 the halls of the dead. when running the windows version I am unable to read books because it always crashes. I tried running under windows 95 compatibility, but it says I dont have enough viritual memory.
So then I tried the dos version of the game, but It only installs one file (configuration settings) and thats it. anyone els have this problem and know how to fix it? thanks. |
I got same problem. Have you solved it yet? You can copy manually dos files over Your windows version and run it from fta2dos.exe. :sos:
|
Yeah! I got it working!!!!
I used Virtual PC 2004 program and took Windows 98 settings and installed my old Windows 98 to Virtual PC 2004. Then just install windows version of Faery Tale Adventure 2 and play. Speed is original (not slow at all) and everything works good (reading books etc.). My tinkering around worked like a charm. Case is solved. |
how u play it fast? me try like that, install virtual pc 2004 but still cant play it like normal. can help me?
email me [BEEEP]@gmail.com |
What are your hardware specs? Virtual PC requires a heapload of raw CPU power, so it is possible that your machine is not powerful enough to run it smoothly.
If that's the case, there are always other methods. PS. For heaven's sake... using proper grammar and spelling in your posts isn't so difficult and usually gives better response from the community. |
Faery tale adventure (the first one) was a smooth scrolling tile-based game way before any other game had it. TFA came out in 1986 on the amiga, around the same time as U5 I think which was chunky and horrible to look at by comparison. Don't flame me though U5 rocks and still does due to the great gameplay and story line! Just shows that eye-candy isn't everything!
This is obviously the sequel to TFA and was never fully completed. As such a number of the mini-quests can't actually be completed. Apart from that I really enjoyed this game but it did take a while to get into. |

It's an ED2K link... the filehash you can use to add it to an eMule download queque.
Obviously, you need eMule to make any use of the link. |
When the character dies you can easily get him back :) even better to get the ultimate cheat give the travel guy a oil lamp and you will get the staff. give him that staff and you get the ultimate Cheat

hey peoples, if any of you can help me ...I'm in what I think is the sorcerer's lair, 525-651 coordinates. Its the cave south eastish of Padavis, and had a giant firebreathing..thing on my entry. On a lower floor there's a point with 3 toggles, a bunch of zombies locked in, and another barred door..I've got an ivory and rusty key, but none of them open the door(s). IF anyone can tell me how to get through here i'll be quite relieved.

Ah I've finally beaten the good ending of this game, finding the Object of Hope and talking to Thorolis and all. I was playing the full version instead of the ripped one here so I actually got to see the movies and how the different endings make a difference... :)

WHAT "didn't work", exactly?
If you can't be bothered to provide full details of what you exactly did and what exactly happened (with full precise syntax of error messages), we're shooting in the dark with general suggestions but no idea what is the actual problem - much less how to solve it. |
:)Can anyone tell me if its possible to get a full walkthrough for FT2..I have been playing it for a while now and while I love it..graphics are great I am a bit in the dark as to what to do now that I have dispached some orcs..snakes ..goblins and wandered around towns..Was there ever a manual for this game? All help greatly appreciated..SAL

HINT PDF
My hint pdf is still at http://scribd.com/pauper
|
Nice.
I may sort that walkthru and hints for Universal Hints System (http://www.uhs-hints.com). I don't think that it is up on there yet. :D Also: Since Pietroschek (aka Pauper)'s link goes to his blog's main page, rather than the PDF he is talking about - Here is the link to the guide direct: http://www.scribd.com/doc/16448865/S...ls-of-the-Dead [ed] In fact, I'll just send you a message on scribd about maybe doing something for the Abandoned Times magazine, if you are interested? |
The download now includes the whole CD :)
|
When attempting to unzip with WinRAR, an error pops up saying, "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged."

I've verified that the file is good on the server side, but I've had to try downloading it three times before doing it successfully. The server seems to be having problems, perhaps because of the size, although some of the times it aborted early, so it may be temporary.
Try re-downloading. If your browser doesn't inform you when the download is aborted, check the file's properties: its size (not "size on disk" but just "size") should be exactly 312,229,324 bytes. |
After several attempts, the best I've gotten so far is 295 MB (309,742,561 bytes). I'll try again later, and hopefully it will let me have the rest!
|
Have you managed yet? What download speed are you getting?
|
i can't sell things - bug ?
i tried to drag some things from my inventory onto merchant (either NPC named merchant and Caladrin) and they take everything as a gift ... any idea ?
|
Each merchant buys only some kinds of items, and that's different for different merchants. For the rest he will behave like a regular person, that is they just take whatever you give them--and it doesn't help anyone. I think the "peddlers" buy almost anything, but they pay poor prices.
The guys walking on the street labelled "merchants" aren't really merchants, in the sense that they won't buy or sell anything. They're just ordinary people like nobles etc. |
