Rogue 16-11-2004 02:34 PM

Let’s see why and how did you nick-named your self the way you did.

As some of you already know, Anubis is god of underworld in Egyptians mythology. I liked mythology as the kid and I am interested in history. :)

So, how about you?

Yamcha 16-11-2004 02:38 PM

Well you see I was a big fan of Dragon ball movies. When i make my mail at yahoo i tried the most popular heros but they was took so.. I decide to put someone that isn't that important and famous but IT WAS TOOK TOO :ranting: so here goes the 565656 my nick is also xakera(hackera)

wormpaul 16-11-2004 02:38 PM

Wormpaul cames from:

Worm = Worms 2 (my favourite game in that time)

Paul - Name...really???...yes it's really a name...

So i doesnt got a magic name...but i think it sounds well :ok:

Puffin 16-11-2004 02:48 PM

Puffin.... Long and fucked-up story!

Basically, many many months ago I had a dream, and in that dream everybody called me Lundi. Lundi is Icelandic for puffin. But the thing is, I know a guy called Lundi. His real name means Eagle son of Seagull!! So, his nick is Lundi.

Anyways, I couldn't use Lundi, beause it was already taken.

Then months later, Rod, my boyfriend at the time, and I were planning a trip around Iceland to see puffins. He had never seen them, and really wanted to. Then I told him about this dream, and he started calling me Puffin (in english).

So that's the simple (and legal) version of the story

Rogue 16-11-2004 03:20 PM

Puffin, is this you? LOL (I had no idea you are for adoption  )

http://www.audubon.org/bird/puffin/i...lash/adopt.gif

(If you like to adopt a puffin, click on the picture ;) )

:bye:

FreeFreddy 16-11-2004 03:21 PM

Well, I didn't want my nick to mean something more than I'm myself, so I took my name and surname and turned them to sound little cooler. And yes, my surname means translated "free". Actually, given to me because of my ex-dad, it came out to fit really perfectly. Nothing is more important to me than freedom, either for others or for me. So here you are. ;)

Havell 16-11-2004 03:24 PM

Mine is simple, my name is Richard Havell so I just made my nickname my real name.

Kon-Tiki 16-11-2004 03:41 PM

Part One
Part Two
Part Three

Danny252 16-11-2004 04:11 PM

3 parts? sheesh...

anyway, Danny = my real name is daniel but its too long.. Daniel252? you must be joking!
and I like 2 and 5... and I just added another 2 for the sake of it

Kon-Tiki 16-11-2004 04:30 PM

What's wrong with part 3?

Sebatianos 16-11-2004 06:17 PM

Oh well, mine actually does have a story behind it.

I write short (1/2 to 12 pages) stories, but at one point I decided to make a real epic (after 5 years I'm still only on page 53 - haven't worked on it for 4&1/2 years - but that's another story). In this epic tale of a boy, whose father disapeared cutting down a magical oak, the boy got a mentor - Master Sebatianos - or old Bati (as he was kindly called). I tried to make sure the name had no real meaning - but had a ring to it (like other names in the story - because I wanted to present a culture uniqe in the human history). This mentor was my voice in the story (everybody had a character - and they acted acording to it as though they were alive - even if I didn't like it - otherwise their character would not be convincing). So Sebatianos was me really. Then when signing up at yahoo my real name was taken, so I chose this one. So I started using it, whenever I had to register.

Stroggy 16-11-2004 06:25 PM

My store is about the same as Sebastianos's.
A character in my book was named Strogannov.
it was onlya fter that, that I found out its a kind of steak.

But I liked the ring the name had so I shortened it to Stroggy.

Atleasts thats how i think it went
(forgive me I've been drinking, so my mind isn't that clear)

Sebatianos 16-11-2004 06:35 PM

And I thought it was derived from STROG - meaning strict in many Slavic languages.
Remeber talking to you about it already! - don't have to much - or else it's your turn to:

Rogue 16-11-2004 06:41 PM

I was thinking the same thing, Sebatianos. LOL

Some members have nice creativiti, when it comes to nick. :)

Eagle of Fire 16-11-2004 07:30 PM

A Phoenix is a mystical Egyptian legend. He is a huge bird of fire with magical properties and capabilities and rumored to be the child of Ra, the most powerfull God in the Egyptian mythology (and also representing the sun). Doomed from birth to fly endlessly toward the sun in a vain attemp to get back to his father, the Phoenix would always fly until he died of exhaustion and consumed himself. He would then be resurected once a year at the Temple of Anubis (if I remember well the name of the temple) so he could continue his (quite impossible) epic quest.

From fire to ashes, ashes to fire.

The name "Phoenix" was pretty common over the internet when I wanted to take that nick (especially since there is a city named Phoenix in the USA) so I went for Eagle of Fire instead. And it was pretty original, original enough so my email adress is simply Eagle_of_Fire@hotmail.com without any stupid numbers before or after it... :sneaky:

Caged 16-11-2004 08:17 PM

Yes I remember that conversation.

And don't worry, when I drink too much I just become calm and surprisingly cynical.

Sebatianos 16-11-2004 08:20 PM

How can your cynism be surprising?
I'd really like to see that! :ok:
Give the guy another

Squalidangel 16-11-2004 08:37 PM

I feel uncomfortable telling people why I picked this name. Like anyone else I don't like to be judged. When I was a heroin addict I used that name. (because I felt like nick fitted who I was then...makes sense to me.) I kept it because it is never taken by another person.

Squalidangel,
I am glad that you're talking about heroin in the past tense. :ok:

And why would we judge you???

Sebatianos 16-11-2004 08:45 PM

@squalidangel
Why would we judge you?
Feel free to express your self - as long it's not hurting others....
That's one of my motos at least.

Sorry, I knew my limits and stopped drinking.
Just drank a small glass of whiskey with my dad over a sigar when I came back home and thats it.

 Good for you! :ok:

anyway...

Unknown Hero 16-11-2004 09:38 PM

Well, at the time I was about to join abandonia, I downloaded Quest for Glory 1 VGA from the site, and as I didn't put my character's name, when someone asked me my name I would respond Unknown Hero, so here it comes, I liked it and taken it!

Fawfulhasfury 16-11-2004 10:40 PM

Well, my nickname came from this. In 2003, I found out about and waited 6 months for Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, the first Mario RPG for the GBA.
When I finally got it, I was stunned by how funny this game was. One character in particular, a bad guy named Fawful. He could never speak right and was constantly referring to people he didn't like as fink-rats and talked about sandwiches and always said his new plan would be the mustard of your doom.
Whenever he was beaten he would get mad and say "I have FURY!" Being my favorite Mario character ever, I took that as my nickname, Fawfulhasfury. :D

Maerlyn 16-11-2004 10:51 PM

Maerlyn is -the- evil/dark/bad man from alot of Stephen King stories, he goes by alot of different names, another is Randell Flagg from The Stand movie and book.

He has existed since forever and will continue too, unless Roland the Gunslinger can stop him? I dont know i havent got to that book yet (Darktower series).

Btw, that sounds like a bunch of bs.

Fawfulhasfury 16-11-2004 10:54 PM

What is Dark Tower about. Is it any good. And that is a pretty neat reason for you nick. :D

Maerlyn 16-11-2004 10:58 PM

It is the ultimate epic, its about alot of things - It's fantasy, horror, cyberpunk, science fiction - It is a journey worth taking whether youre a fan of Stephen King or not.

He recently put out the last 3 books so the series totals 7.

Fawfulhasfury 16-11-2004 11:15 PM

cool :D

Squalidangel 17-11-2004 12:21 AM

Yeah, I made it up... Seriously thats what I meant twhen I said I felt uncomfortable mentioning it. Since you know nothing about me (mearyln)what kind of comment is that to make. If you meant it to be humorous, sorry. I shot up heroin for 3 yrs. I now have been pretty much clean for two. It was an honest reply to the topic. If you knew me at all you would know I am not the kind of person who just says shit for the hell of it. :eeeeeh:

Rogue 17-11-2004 12:32 AM

Squalidangel,
As I said before, I’m glad that you made it and are now here with us :ok: . I know some people (some of them trough the web) who are still trying to get clean, but it’s very hard.

Mearyln,
I don’t see why would Squalidangel make up her story. :not_ok: I don’t believe that she is trying to impress somebody by telling about her past.

wendymaree 17-11-2004 12:53 AM

Squalidangel, thanks for sharing something of yourself with us. I think it was brave, and I respect you for that. Btw, I like your taste in avatars. I modified it from a gorgeous fantasy artwork on Elfwood. :D

So as not to be off-topic, my nickname is my first and middle name.

Titan 17-11-2004 01:52 AM

Well... time for me i guess...

I've used several over the years..

Started out as Goldberg (after the american wrestler)..
He was sorta the same typ as me, eg. able to berserk.

Then it was M-Trance for a while.. it's name-rellated (see crew-page), and also since i like that sort of music.. also the name i've released under.

Then.. it's Titan..
Been using that for the past 5 yrs along with M-Trance in different ways.

Titan comes from an online game i play called Utopia, where i had a province called "Reich of (the) Titan(s)" (bad lang. i know, but supposed to be like that).. It primarly rellates to the Titan "Atlas" in the old mythology, the titan who held up the sky.
Might also be since i can be quite fearsom and be pretty brutal ;) muhahah (not kidding). I have a reputation for freaking out, and i've gone fully berserk (with the memory-loss thingy) a few time in the past years.. so i guess my smily here at Abandonia fits pretty well ;)

Questions can be directed down the barrel of my Sig...

Rogue 17-11-2004 02:03 AM

Used to play utopia couple years ago. Realy cool game if you got in the cool kingdom. :D

I am a nice enough person, and whether you have respect for me or not doesnt phase me at all - i am not going to blow smoke up people's arses, im going to say what i mean to say.

I dont like drama queens.

<<<I am a nice enough person, and whether you have respect for me or not doesnt phase me at all - i am not going to blow smoke up people's arses, im going to say what i mean to say.>>

It amazes me that people like you take great pride in hurting others by 'saying what they mean' but your lot are the first ones to complain if others 'say what they mean' back. What I'm saying is, treat others the way you'd like them to treat you.

Just saying what I mean.

Maerlyn 17-11-2004 05:51 AM

It's not up to you to judge if you're a nice enough person or not. A father who constantly beats up children - and then buys them an icecream once in every few months yould think about himslef he's a nice enough guy!!!

Saying what you mean it a good thing actually, but you need some 'human touch'. The fact that you don't know anybody else - and that none of them know you - makes it only worse when we come to that!
When people know each other - then they have the ability to judge a person (but they must really know that person well). No-one would call a stranger as a character witness at the court :eeeeeh:
So how do you dare talk about someone you don't know?
And another thing:
-just because people here don't meet in person doesn't mean, they don't know each other. Most people here as you will find are very honest!
That means they don't pretend to be somebody else just because they have a nick name and an avatar of someone - or something other than their name. They don't hide behind their new identity to rn around saying BS as you put it. That might happen on other forums (but if it does it shouldn't).
Here you can get a good idea what a person is about by reading their posts, you'll se thay're consistant - not contradictory to their personality.

You don't like drama queens?
Neither do I, but I don't go around and sopose that everyone who gives a statemant or something like that is a drama queen!!! Maybe you should rethink the method by which you clasify people - or simply not judge them at all!!!

Thanks everyone for sticking up for me and my right to reply to a topic the same as everyone else. Don't hold anything against maerlyn..I'm not. Perhaps he had something in his life that has made him edgy about the subject of addiction.

BTW: if it wasn't taken Pandora would fill all my nickname needs....Perhaps it isn't taken here there aren't many females...?? I will have to see about that...

Tom Henrik 17-11-2004 06:58 AM

The story of my nick?...

Hmm... where do I start?

When I was still a little baby inside my moms stomach I often did a little kicking to pass the time.... (There really wasn't anything else to do. (Unless you look at growing legs and arms and developing organs as something to do). It was extremely boring). And so I....

It's my name, sorry to tell you all.

Iron_Scarecrow 17-11-2004 08:42 AM

Well I just picked out some random word for my email but it was taken so I shoved an iron in front of it.

But I have another nickname at school. Some people call me Petal. One of my teachers started it, I think she thought I smelled nice, I don't know, I got a pretty mixed up answer when I asked why she called me it. Well anyway now I'm stuck with it. :D

I suggest you couple of communication classes, and while waiting for instructor get a book called 'children from train station zoo' and read it. (my free translation)

Durak 17-11-2004 01:20 PM

I've always liked Russians and when I tried to learn a bit of the language some of my friends were only too willing to teach me. Durak was one of the first words I knew and I liked the sounding of it. The meaning goes along well in a teasing way to describe myself, but it is funny hearing how often people ask me if I'm Russian or if I know what it means...
