Seeing that we all have met the bugs, and realizing that for some it's causing hatred toward the game while for others it's just an additional laugh, here's the thread to post and maybe discuss the bugs and glitches. If you found a way around them, or a remedy, please post. Maybe you will find a solution here as well, who knows?
But mainly, I thought it would be a nice gallery :D Ok, here goes: Battlecruiser Millennium: The orbit-to-surface assault had just begun, and one of my shuttles carrying me and a tank met too tough resistance, so I decided to deploy the tank before touch-down. The tank, carrying me, started it's long fall down before leveling several houndred metres above ground. Then it went into HYPER SPACE :hysterical: Knowing that the game was never polished, I guess that's one of the hazards of combat you have to live with... Panzer General 2: I found that as long as you had at least two units in the deployment pool, you could deploy one, move and fire, then un-deploy it back into the pool, re-deploy, move and fire and so on forever. The crucial point were that when the unit was deployed and you clicked "next turn", then the fun ended. But as long as you did it in a single turn, you could use any cappy unit to clear the enemy front line in a single turn. That way I usually ended up with starting the German campaign with at least two level 15 tanks with leaders. Daggerfall: EVIL BUG. For no apparent reason (all patches installed) the save games would die, the game deleting a crucial file in the save game folder. I never found a remedy except backing up the save games at a regular rate. Ultima IX: Mostly graphics related, you know: having a barrel for head, skeletons' re-building screw-ups and that sort of things, but there were some serious issues that made the game unplayable after a while: The game would start to lag no matter the hardware, to the point where you would have to exit to desk top and re-start. I read tons of pages, but I never found a way to fix this. Also, the game's crash frequency took to the sky like a missile as the game progressed. If anyone has any idea how to fix this, I would be grateful. This is a site with some nice screens of UIX glitches: http://www.it-he.org/ultima9.htm Baldur's Gate: EVIL BUG. After completing Durlag's Tower, the game would crash when I entered Baldur's Gate. No remedy found. |
A stupid bug, no matter what was in CSS. Map De_Aztec, if you go to the main corridor (below it is the path that would lead to site A, I think) there is a wall to which you could jump and get stuck :hysterical:
I forgot so many as I ventured through so many games. ^_^ |
System Shock 2: When you have completed about 95% of the game, you encounter "the many" that cannot even be killed, and therefore you are stuck. Patch fixes this problem but you have to start all over. Not a very nice bug indeed.
Sin: It has been while (actually very long time) since I played this game, but the subway monster that was supposed to be badass didn't do anything at all. You could kill him without any distrubing his peace. Damn, I wan't to play this game again! What a memories! |

The best bug ever is the eternal ragdoll in Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. The funny thing is, if you came into a game, just to annoy people, and the admin mutes you, the fun isn't over yet! If you manage to do the ragdoll copy effect (where a lag spike causes a random copy of your dude to appear for no reason, just next to you as a ragdoll, can easily be done by pulling your wireless jack and putting it back in quickly) you can cause ragdolls to stay FOREVER in a server level by suiciding the instant the effect occurs (just press the suicide button as soon as the lag spike starts) that means that everytime someone dies, their ragdoll will NOT go away, meaning massive lag and a huge amount of bodies! Whoopie! |
One of the cities in Elite 3 is actually lower than ground. so when you want to land your craft you smash it on the ground.
not really a bug but...: in elite 3 when you try and land a huge ship in a small space base, sometimes your autopilot is too stupid and can not rotate the ship properly causing it to get stuck, using up all the shield and exploding in the end. base doens't seem to care. they just close the cargo doors. :D |

There are a few in Bloodrayne 1 that I managed to catalogue, three of which are somewhat interesting.
First, "Spider Queen decapitation", which actually is more of a consequence of boss design then actual glitch. See, when fighting the first boss you have to cut off its legs... but, as the boss can be mutilated, you can try shooting it up with shotgun - sometimes you can take its head off that way. Neat glitch, really. Makes the fight much shorter... Second, the "teachers and traitors 30 second glitch". It requires some fancy reflexes to execute, but if done correct - you pass the level in about 30 seconds and skip one of the more annoying boss fights. Well, it's fun. Last glitch is pure EVIL. When fighting the final boss, it is possible to push him through a glitched wall and thus be unable to finish the game (been there, done that). |
Stuck in wall bug is nothing compared to "sudden punishment in hell" -bug (gta vice city and san andreas) where you walk happily at the street and all the sudden the earth engulfs you and you fall into eternal fall of abyss.
Another funny bug was with legendary driving game Driver. Especially in pursuit mode (lot's of cops) when you drive your car in specific angle to corner or wall and another car hits you, your car might take a sudden jump to sky, lasting sometimes over 20 secons, leaving black trail at the sky. :D This was hilarious way to try to reach areas like building roofs and other inaccessable areas. |
1. My version of GP4 developed the following glitch, whereby as a player car was slowing down to enter the pits in Malaysia, any CPU cars entering the pits behind, would slam on the brakes and swerve off the pitlane, usually causing their car to hop over the gravel and lose some bodywork on landing. And of course after it happened the first time, there was debris in the pit lane enterance, and all cars pitting in that part of the race did the same thing.
2. Carmageddon (PC) had a glitch whereby if you hit a wall hard enough, your car would disappear into the abyss and be crushed, with all parts of the car taking maximum damage. 3. Tachyon the Fringe. The most recent version still had a glitch on the mission to destroy Cassitor's Station, that caused the ship you were escorting to attack his landing pads (which can't be destroyed) instead of landing at them. Or the ship simply disappeared and the mission registered as complete. |
Just remembered Arx Fatalis last boss. A half created evil god. spawns a demon, powerfull mage etc...
Anyway been loading and saving and throwing magic at him, used all the arrows for demon and offcourse used the specially designed mithril sabre which is supposed to kill it. but everytime he survived my attacks and even seemed to be regenerating the health. when i was about to quit i found out (on the forums) that the stairs "do magic". so what you do is stand on small set of stairs, he comes to you but can't get to you. when he uses magic it is too high (basically shoots over the head) and he doesn't have enough regeneration mana/spells available. either way it is quite easy to smash him with that special sabre untill he dies. who would think that master of all evil, ok his half reincarnation, would be stopped by a sabre of mithiril and a set of stairs. yup. taking over the world can be tough if you can't walk 3 steps down the stairs. :D |
Blitzkriegs evil glitch...
The mission is soviet surrounding german camp - 3 points to capture... When I win the game just crashes... can't patch the game - the patch can't find the game (It's pirated) |

I've seen loads but the one in my head right now is the GTA San Andreas parachute glitch. You jump from a plane/helicopter and open your parachute, and the cords come out with no parachute on the end. You continue to drop like a rock, unable to do anything but wait to hit the ground, whereupon you wake up outside the hospital, twitching on the floor, at which moment you die AGAIN and then wake up outside the hospital ready to kill. Also I once loaded a savegame my sister managed to screw up somehow and every time it started with CJ floating facedown in a pool of black water in the middle of an empty black void.

Well I remember a friend of mine once made a map for Duke Nukem 3D where entire level was made with use of engine glitches and visual bugs and of course I had to be the first tester. That was quite weird and scary. As if accurately placed HOM bugs weren't enough he had to make areas with many different rooms that co-exist at the same place in space (but you could only see one at a time, they were separated by different tunnels), all this to twist your sense of reality. There were many other unusual engine features/bugs too. I think I still have it somewhere in my backup.
Next one was the Dyson Sphere at the end of Freelancer. Just imagine flying your little ship in vast space, cool nebulas, planets, stations and etc. You see an alien portal leading somewhere far far away, naturally you jump into it. Next thing you see is a gigantic infinitie cosmic floor and some... planets above the surface. That was shocking experience, my brain had to have a few moments to comprehend what exactly I see. It was as in my dreams when I've seen something like a "cosmic wall"... scary muck... Two hidden systems were also fun, one was like a Another weird thing was the final system in Nexus: Jupiter Incendent. I don't have words to describe what that is. |
Well, there I was:
Playing a huge game of REUNION. Everything was working perfectly. I made all the developments in time. There weren't really threats for me. I wanted to make up a seperate commando to wipe the evils (don't remember their name) from my solar system. So I wanted to produce a bunch of ground units and WHAT THE F*CK HAPPENED?! The game screwed up the needed resources to 68000 something for a single unit. So I couldn't attack. That save game is stuck. I had to start all over and it happened again. :titan: I QUITTED PLAYING this great game since I am too annoyed of this fact. |

1. The legendary following car trunk bug in Fallout 2.
2. Ability to go trought 30 degree corners in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. |
In Dark War 2 I encountered this kind of bug: when I were in cavern the enemies started floating in the air. And they couldn't attack on me. Quite easy to shoot the enemies down ^_^

palace barbarian
roll forward, hold headbutt - opponent will continue to also headbutt. If both characters headbutt there is an error in the sprite detection and it wont register a hit. The glitch is you can go into mid-slash and the computer will continue to headbutt. Every opponent except the first one does this so you can finish the game easy utopia you can build power stations anywhere along the bottom of the map up to about 5 squares in - so long as there is land there |

Bugs...
Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing has a few (google it if you don't know what I'm talking about :P) The void in Daggerfall was pretty funny. And annoying. The Championship Manager/Football Manager series has had a few fun bugs in it's time too. 3 year old players (or 300 year old players), strange transfer fees, players being duplicated, a player called 'DELETE ME PLEASE'... the newest football manager game seems to have issues with red cards. I seem to have 3 players sent off every week. Frontier: Elite II, and Frontier: First Encounters had a few funny ones too. Collision detection is horrible, sometimes you'll just explode for no apparent reason. And there's that weird bug where you can warp for a huge distance for almost no fuel, ending up hundreds of light years away (I think it was because of floating point calculations or something technical like that). |

...The missing line in the medals section is rather weird, and you have to find out the hard way to figure out you won't get one medal because you were too good! (well, either the hard way, or through the FFE faq...) If one is to list every bug in that game, this post would eat the last bit of forum space. But it's a nice game though. |
hostage bug in cs 1.5 or 1.6..can't remember
the bullet bug in 1.5 (good for awp-ers) smoke bugs, flash bugs, you name it |

It's interesting how some game bugs eventually turn into gameplay features in some games, namely q1/2/3. Still my favourite multiplayer bug was invisible trip bomb laser in Duke Nukem 3D. Although it requires careful placement and knowledge of spots where it can be done. Fun guaranteed as well as extremely annoyed opponent (and I loved to tripwire most of the map). I used to play DN3D a lot back then with my friend. We never considered that a cheat as we both used this bug to our advantage. But sometimes we forgot where we placed them... One time I bombed almost every spawn location on the map. Ironicly I got killed... *press space to respawn* BOOM! *press space to respawn* BOOM! and etc... that was rather painful. |
I think it was one of the early Kickoff games
You could turn "banana power" (how much the ball curved in the air) on so much you could make it come back to you like a boomerang after kicking it! |
Any glitch in super Mario 64
In Super Mario 64 ds I once went through a side of a level and died instantly In Tribes 1 if I jump against walls sometimes I go through into an abyss I cna't get out of without restarting tribes In Gunz Online I once got attached to a hackers head and ran around with him until someone killed him, then I died In Wolf ET my body once got stuck to the tank when I died In Silkroad Online, well, this one is self explanatory, see attached picture Caption: HOT COFFEE!!! Another possible caption: I didn't find any gold on the ground, but I managed to carry off a hawt broad!!! http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/hotcoffee.png |

Final frontier 2 was i think released in some strange way. cause one of copyright owners gave it out while the other one wanted to block it. it all went to cort i believe. i didnt' follow the development but i think i saw it a week or so ago that they give it away under some special license. ugh i need to find that site again and recheck if that means abandoned or freeware or what? or maybe they just gave out the codes (for those that "lost" the manual) which offer you the ability to continue playing. BTW did anyone ever reach the end of the universe mpa in those games? if so, how? seriously i had a modified spacecraft, but coudln't reach it cause it needs maintenance every year. |

Reminds me of what I used to do... mod the User.con for 999 tripmines, enter appropriate cheats (including the one that removed the monsters) and set as many mines as possible. One of my creations slowed my 486 DX4/100 down to a total crawl, but it sure was mean! |
ehm, did you then trip one mine?
boom! he, he, he.... must be fun to watch :-D |
Yup. I kept setting the mines until I ended up tripping one of them. Add in a generous sprinkling of pipebombs all over the place as an extra.
BAM-KRAKA-BADABOOOM! |
Wierdest/funniest bug I ever encountered was in that famously wierdly buggy title, Ultima IX. I found that you could stack items hundreds of feet high, so I did so, then climbed to the top. I only wish the game itself had been even remotely as entertaining. Instead, it was a grade B action title, masquerading as an RPG. Shame, really.

While playing Steel Panthers World at War I keep getting the blue screen of death and my computer restarts. Tried to get some info from the site but no help.
|
On SP games: I have found that the crash frequency differs somewhat on different installments, similar to Daggerfall. You could try to un-install and re-install, it might help. Also, SPWW2 is the most stable one I've tried, with much less crashes than the others, even the more recent ones. On the latest, the graphics would smear or the screen go black until I moved the cursor and "painted" the graphics back.

Nothing says glitches more than "Saturn."
For one thing, in Megaman X4, there are a few animated cutscenes. Now, I hadn't taken care of the game very well, and it had a few scratches. (Read: Many, many scratches) During one of the cutscenes, Zero says to the Colonel: "It's not too late. Stop the coup now!" (I won't go into the story.) But it kept skipping so that he said "Stop the coup now! Too late. Stop the coup now! Too late." And then there was an odd bug in Croc where the backgrounds wouldn't load correctly, causing the 3D elements in the game to load themselves into the background every frame. In other words, the scenery seemed to have trails coming from it. Or something. |
a nice game is:(pd:i only play the demo)
Arcanum of steamwork and magick obscura the time of load can make u crazy :wallbash: and, sometimes it crash your computer(for a very short time) but,try it |
The most evil bug? Steam.
Completely ruined my hopes for playing Half Life 2 when it took 16 hours to update itself... then the next day had to update itself, which would've been another 16 hours if I hadn't uninstalled it first... |

and as for other bugs: vice city: falling thorugh roads over bridges (i.e. between rosenberg's office and bunch of tools hardware stool) and road textures not always being loaded properly in the distance (nvidia gfx card/driver issue with the game) and also a classic exploit: on the original worms - have the uzi selected then press space and F1 (Fire and Bazooka Select) at exactly the same time to get an uzi firing bazooka shells :P |
A personal pet peeve of mine occurs in the majority of ameuter/fan made adventure games - in which you can walk your character into the wall, but not out again. I know that ameuter/fan games should not neccessarily be held to the same standards as professionally produced games, but that common bug in particular always gets on my nerves.
For me, the most infamous bugs and glitches occur in almost every game produced by Sierra during its last gasping, dying days during the mid nineties - after which it was bought out and The Great Talent Purge began. As a paying customer it really felt like their usually impeccable beta testing and QA had dissapeared along with the great Ken Williams. It sucks when the box lists the neccessary system requirements, when really it should have read, "system requirements for the barest bones of performance and playability." Phantasmagoria, although not a particularly good game anway (IMHO) could have been infinitely better if it had actually worked correctly back in the day. |
Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: In the city, searching for this mob leader, I encountered a sniper who couldn't have been happier when I did my jedi speed trick. I ran like Liberace being chased by the KKK, coz the sniper suddenly had an automatic sniper rifle with a rate of fire that was totally ridiculous. I never saw this before, and it happened only with this guy, once.
EDIT: Same game: This isn't a bug or glitch, but it is so annoying that I'm really tempted to call it just that: The way the enemy suddenly materialize out of thin air! This is so mind-thrashingly daft, it makes me wonder why I bother to play. There is no point in sneaking around, using binoculars or scope, when the enemy doesn't exist before you "step on the trigger", not to mention these two blokes coming down the elevator: They were born on the elevator, a split second ago. There is plenty of opportunity to throw a grenade up there, but it will hit nothing, because the merry chaps haven't come into existence yet. :wallbash: |
an event driven game :D. Well it is very linear, but i like the speed effect (matrix style fights). and also there are some funny scenes there. also i waited after the enb credits and game threw me in final showdown room where the main boss was waiting. i could hurt him, mkae him "bleed" but could not kill him. he also never moved. just stood there. how? if i killed him a few minutes before?
anyway i just found another one in Hitman 3: Contracts. i never knew before you can dress up as waiter in Rotterdam mission. well once i saw i could and i did. that waiter has red glasses. so when i switched to 1st person screen (sometimes better for aiming) the whole screen went red like someone painted it with red. it looked like all colours slowly amplified into red colour. i thought the game crashed, but when i took it back to 3rd person view it all went back to normal. scared me quite a bit, casue the effect looked like the one when you die in Spear of Destiny. i dont' know really if it's a but or intentional. |
I remember something different.
When I played Mad TV with a friend in the old days, on his Pentium 75 I believe, we always played a lot. And we did really good. (I state that I'm still a Mad TV pro :max: :D) But everytime we wanted to save we had to hold the breath cause the PC sometimes crashed and showed only: "Parity check" and we couldn't play any further. Always during the save process... <_< |
