Weird game. I don't really like it, but that's probably just because I suck. My colony got killed off by Indians.

Yup, you suck ^_^ Getting treaties with all tribes is about the first thing I do; the method involves a few knives as gifts on repeat visits.

Does -anyone- know where a manual can be found, though?

This game was surprisingly quite enjoyable.

The winning sequence is a little wierd - not quite sure what the designers were trying to achieve...

I'd like to see more of this type of historical strategy game being created, but these days its all about smash crash kill - damn playstation generation.

It gets a little frustrating when you have huge reserves of lumber and can't load it all onto the ship! Would have been nice if you could construct your own ships, but I suppose they were going for the historical perspective.

desperately need some tips on this game. I think I really like it, but feel that I am losing without real warning. When I get the bag of arrows, is that bad?which choice do i make, and what is "domestics"?

The bag of arrows is a sign you need to do more giftgiving. When you get it, first send them a bag of powder and shot. Then go right over and give them a knife.

You need one domestic per six colonists, for cooking meals and basic medical care.

How do to select the response (Response1 or Response2)?

Strange game. Would be easier if I could get a manual or somethin', but verry little know about this game, and even then, no walkthrough!

I'm depressed.

Alright, I figured it out, and I'll give you some tips:

Start with Plymouth.

sell all knives, buy some fishhooks, some powder+shot and leave everything else for medicine. You're gonna need it.

Just when your colony is made, buy corn, pumpkins and beans from wampanoag (or nimpuc). Solved the diet problem.

put 7 log cutters and 7 lumber millers on your first week to get enough firewood (for warmth).

Put 1 hunter groups and 2 fisher groups for food.

make sure your domestics take care of everyone.

Put 4 log cutters, 4 lumber millers and 6 house builders (will create 1 house in 2 weeks) until you have enough houses.

put everything else on caring for the sick.

give powder+shot to indians to make them happy, then smoke peace pipe to talk to them and make treaty's with them.

Every month every tribe will replenish what they make (except for wampanoag and nimpuc), so trade beer (never waste any beer, just parley!) with furs and wampum.

Trade fur for beer with captain jones until you have 200 beer and ship all your fur and wampum back to england.

Hope that helps.
