Hi ! Im at a little LAN with my cousin here and we wanted to play a little network round of Fragile Allegiance (yes, i own the original version, no download) together, the game we played for HOURS and HOURS when we were young.
The problem is, if i start Fragile Allegiance and then click on Network nothing happens. My cousin can open network games, so it should work. I already installed IPX driver, enabled Network Games in Setup, re-installed the game, but still, nothing happens when i click on the network button. Can anyone here help me ? :( |

Now away from :offtopic: Mostly there are issues about the IPs. Try to look up those. If you click and your machine shows nothing it doesn't mean automatically that he didn't try to. :sneaky: |
i dont know how the IPs could cause the problem.
other games are working fine. Please try to help, we would really love to play the game in multiplayer :( |
What are the settings available for network games?
Also, what protocols does the game support? There is a possibility it's not compatible with TCP/IP protocol. |

i think it uses IPX only. there arent any realy Network options, just how many players, what size of the universe and other game related options. but as i said, if i click on Multiplayer/network button, nothing happens, i checked these options on my cousins comp |
Hum, if I remember correctly, "Fragile Allegiance" (or "K240" - some people know it by this name) is a DOS game, but it can run in Windows XP, so here's my question: how are you running the game? through Windows or in DOSBox? If you are running it through Windows, you might have some firewall limitations (I really don't know if the IPX protocol is affected by it) - and maybe it isn't the answer as you said you can run other games over the network. If you are running it in DOSBox, you'll need to activate the IPX emulation (dosbox.conf - at [ipx] # ipx -- Enable ipx over UDP/IP emulation, set from ipx=false to ipx=true)

ok i just tried it with dosbox, and i can open multiplayer games now, the only problems is, we dont find our games. We both tried to open a game, but the other one cant join, because there arent any multiplayer games in the list. :( ------------------- YEAH it works with DOSbox, needed to activate IPX Server in dosbox first, cool, thank you very much!! |

from http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.p...age=dosbox.conf
ipx = true | false Enable IPX over UDP/IP emulation. . Default is false. . (since 0.62) i'm guessing you have to set this to true. (and have an TCP/IP network working in windows) ---- also for other networks settings: they are set by default to false. |
This is a very old topic indeed, but to make it work on Windows (XP) you will need to do the following.
Configuring DOSBox to allow IPX networking. Quote:

... it really makes me wonder why did you resurrect this. why did you do it? the person doesn't even visit this forum anymore most probably he already solved his problem with velik's advice

I actually posted it for other people still googling the network problem, its the reason why I came here and I figured the more the solution is presented the faster people will get it too work hehe.
I didnt actually expect a reply on this either at all. I was actually thinking people wouldn't notice this for like a year at least, but I think I'm forgetting that this forum here actually is still a live and that I only read these topics about fragile allegiance. Google sure is a powerful tool. Btw there are only like a couple of hits on google if you google network problems with fragile allegiance. I'm sorry for necroing this thread, but I hope you can understand where I was getting from. Greets, A random googler. |
Thank you
I was just Googling this yesterday, gave up, and continued today. Thank you Uncle Jack for the info.

Thanks for the help, but we do not encourage necroposting here.
