Which special game effect stumbled your senses when you first saw it ?
One of my favorites is: The colour changes in ATRAIN. The colour will change from day to night and vary from season to season. I've recorded a sample of what I mean. (day and night changes) ATRAIN - The movie(HQ) |
I get an error for the video it tries to get a codec but fails. Help says I don't have a codec. I figured that out. Stupid Windows.
|
hmm I used a (hopefully) standard codec. mpeg4
Try this one: (msmpeg4v2) http://www.abanonia.com/~data/ab.avi |
the movie in the first link doesn't work... and the second link doesn't work...

Battlefield 2's disorientation effect.
F.E.A.R. 's slowmo power. Far Cry's white lighting. Oblivion's bump mapping. Half-Life 2's rag doll physics. So many that I found that blew me away, too many to list :D |
Sanity effects from Eternal Darkness. The bathtub scene* just hits you so quickly.
And Pretty much all ragdoll physics... Especially from Destroy All Humans! :sneaky: *If you are playing Eternal Darkness and are scared easily, do not, I repeat DO NOT go near the bathtub. You have been warned. |
morrowind sunrise and sunset.
otherwise gore in doom 2 when i first saw it. especially the berserker punch. oh and hexen ice spell - when i saw it back then the first time. also gore in Rise of the triade. |
Morrowind with nice weather effects, it's sky is very realistic...

Playing my first modern 3D game, Incoming. Good shooter with amazing good graphics (for the time) and extremely fluid animation.

It was in the middle of the night with all the lights off too, and I have surround sound in my room so I was about ready to throw up. |
Now that sounds interesting. I saw it for 30 or 40 bucks pre-owned. What's it like on length?

I hate bathrooms in horror games. Either it's the bathtub or it's the mirror. The mirror got me in Doom 3. It wasn't scary or something but I really wasn't expecting that. Now for the topic ;) I liked the movie TRON. It's basically one big special effect. And the actors seem to blend really well into the surroundings. As for games I liked the "vision" of the character in Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, although it was more of a neat feature than a special effect. But I've never seen a special effect so far that really made me go all "wow". |
JEDI KNIGHT when you use force speed everything arround you actualy slows down.
not to mention the battle with swords!!! i used a cheat and spawned a few enemies just to enjoy sword fighting with them. |

I agree about the windows. Scared me in Fahrenheit. But not that much. |
