Favorite movie?

Hay guys I was just wondering, what are your favorite movies??
For me I'm having a hard time decide, but I have to say that Lion King is very highly ranked in my mind... And of course LOTR is fantastic....
I have to say I must be getting old. I'm started to watch more and more cartoons.... I really like the latest Dreamwork pictures, Shrek 1 and 2 for example....
I don't really remember other pictures at the moment, buuuuuuuuuuuuut what do you guys think? :)

FreeFreddy 11-08-2004 10:24 AM

My most favourite films of all times are Star Wars Episode 4-6 (the first ones), Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer ('cause I'm big fantasy fan). After them come Terminator 2 and The Mummy (1st part). All others are nice to see from time to time, but not that great.

Maikel 11-08-2004 10:37 AM

hmm my favourite movies....

Pulp Fiction
Jackie Brown
Leon
Vidocq
Avalon
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Gattaca
Boondock Saints

that's about it :)

junkmandano 11-08-2004 12:44 PM

gattaca was great!! My favorite is a toss-up between Cast Away and the original Gone in 60 Seconds.

Kiddiarni 11-08-2004 01:15 PM

ok...

uhmm

The Emperors New Groove
The Matrix (only the first one)
LOTR:Return of the King
Shrek 2

Ferris Bueller's Day Off. An classic eighties comedy. Ferris was the guy I wanted to be but never became. Probably for the best.

xndr2181 11-08-2004 10:22 PM

It's hard to say for me since my movie collection is pretty huge, my all time favorite movies though I guess are,
Clerks
Chasing Amy
Conan the Barbarian
Terminator 2
Predator
Aliens
Bravehart
Old School
Swingers
Super Troopers
School of Rock
LOTR
Willow
Sopranos(All TV seasons)
SLC Punk
High Fidelity
(That's all I can think of...)

xndr2181 14-08-2004 03:18 AM

I agree, Hackers is a great flick. I love Matthew lillard in it, and Angelina Jolie is soooo hot!! Also the guy from trainspotting is in it, so you gotta love that!
-Sean

FreeFreddy 14-08-2004 06:23 AM

Btw. I like classical movies with James Belushi too, like The Principal or that one where he's a cop, trying to get along with the dog, which he gets to love at last (don't know the name of the movie in English, I think it's called other than in German), but I mostly don't know / remember names of those movies, although I've seen many of them earlier...

Puffin 14-08-2004 07:29 AM

I think you're talking about K19... I never really liked that to tell ya tha truth....

Now I remember another good film... Armageddon.... OMG it's so amazing.... I always cry when Bruce Willis.... omg I can't complete the sentence......
And the song from the film... Don't wanna miss a thing by Aerosmith.... gee that's just too beutiful....

And that Jesus guy..... from the Passion.... He's HOT! *sigh*

xndr2181 15-08-2004 05:45 PM

The actor your thinking of is James Caviezel, and I the rumor is he might be the next actor to play superman! Could be interesting...I guess in the long run after playing Jesus superman follows? :D
-Sean

Puffin 15-08-2004 06:56 PM

Yeah that's him!
I also like the Spiderman movies!! And I thought nr 2 was better than the first one... although they were both awesome! Kirsten Dunst is so cool!! :D

BTW, Julia Stiles is going to star in an ICELANDIC movie :D ! How weird is that....

Durak 15-08-2004 07:34 PM

We have a huge Icelandic festival in Gimli, a small town near capital of a province in Canada.

Puffin 15-08-2004 09:05 PM

You live in Gimli??? A lot of Icelandic people moved there many years ago, and you can see a lot of Icelandic names there!! That's weird....

xndr2181 15-08-2004 09:19 PM

How can so many people live in a Dwarf? hehe, sorry that was uncalled for, but I couldn't pass it up...Anyway, since were speaking about superheros and canada, I believe both Fantastic Four and Elektra are being filmed there!! 8)

[Random DID YOU KNOW? fact]
There is a City/town, something in Canada Called Reykjavik as the City Reykjavik in Iceland..
[/Random DID YOU KNOW? fact]

Durak 16-08-2004 09:38 PM

A few of our cities here are named after other places in the world, Sydney, Berlin...

Puffin 17-08-2004 10:58 AM

Well, when people name the greatest cities in the world: "Sydney, London, Reykjavik, New York, Paris....!
But I'm sorry to break this geography discussion, but aren't we all getting a little bit off topic :? ?

FreeFreddy 17-08-2004 04:18 PM

A little bit is no problem.
But to return to the theme of the topic: I wanted to add that I like many movies with Kevin Costner (especially Waterworld and Robin Hood) and with Tom Hanks too (don't know / recall the names at the moment mosty though.. :( )

Puffin 17-08-2004 04:26 PM

Oh Robin Hood is awesome! I've watched it like Billions of times!! And Tom Hanks is cool, that's right... I am a big fan of Sleapless in Seatle and You've got Mail... Meg Ryan is amazing...
Kate and Leopold with Meg Ryan and Hugh Jackman... I like that one a lot... My sensitive side

FreeFreddy 17-08-2004 04:32 PM

Ahh, I recall one: I like movie with Tom Hanks called Bachelor Party (at least it's called in Germany like that).

How about Saving Private Ryan, Cast away, Forrest Gump, Green Mile...

FreeFreddy 17-08-2004 04:42 PM

Well, Forrest Gump I didn't like too much. As with Cast Away, I still have to see that sometime...

Puffin 17-08-2004 04:55 PM

Tom Hanks directed the Band of Brothers for HBO. That was awesome!! I didn't miss a show! :D

Maikel 17-08-2004 05:43 PM

The one thing I hated about forrest gump is the kid playing his son. I hate his whiny face. I hate him in 6th sense, in A.I. , just everywhere. He always seems to cry, like his daddy punished him whenever he had to redo a take, and he was on take 25 or so..

bah

-Sean

FreeFreddy 22-08-2004 05:13 PM

What it has come to? When the teenagers began to fight for their rights in later 60's, this seemed to be great times. They got accepted, with some time. But now even the most young people try to come into that businnes-train, most of them not even have enough talents, but they still earn money... They have too much freedom, and too much freedom without some control isn't that great... Not that I think freedom is bad.

I rented blade runner after I bought the game
It wasn't that a great movie to be honest. A bit slow

Enemy at the gates is fantastic :w00t:
I really like it....

Unknown Hero 30-08-2004 06:24 PM

Yeah, great movie. Vasili Zaitcev - eye shot!

unclefester 30-08-2004 06:41 PM

I like matrix 1, back door - a greek movie, and the sixth sense.
I like the texas chainsaw massacre because it is funny

Maikel 30-08-2004 08:05 PM

I love the Bourne Identity. I even got the first version from the 70ies or so. The new one is off course a lot more flashy then the old one. But I love the fact it is'more grainy and subtle then nowaday hollywood movies. Can't wait to see the Bourne supremacy.

Kiddiarni 30-08-2004 09:04 PM

Yeah..Leatherface...

Did you know that an Icelandic Actor played the Part of "Leatherface" in teh first edition of the movie...???

Matrix one Ownz :ok: :ok: :ok: :ok: :ok: Five thumbs up :D

I loooooooooove the Scene where Neo and Trinity enter the Building where Morpheus is Kep :D

Puffin 30-08-2004 10:39 PM

Ach I remember now ;) you mention it.... I had heard about that icelandic dewd in the massacre... I haven't seen the old version of that, but the new one was SCARY!!! (well, i'm such a coward..... )

FreeFreddy 30-08-2004 10:43 PM

I should see this movie sometime... I also like Evil Death, but have only the first one at this time. B)

Stroggy 30-08-2004 10:51 PM

I didn't think the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was that scary.
it was quite funny.

Personally I think the remake of House on Haunted Hill was scarier.
But thats just because mental asylums freak me out to begin with.
Knowing that most of the barbaric treatments shown in the movie were, in fact, used at some point in history (till the 1950's-1960's even)
Shock therapy and a Lobotmy Theatre (some older hospitals in Belgium still have rooms designed specifically for lobotomies (ofcoarse they're not used anymore)
Heat/cold therapy rooms,...

All other horromovies doesn't scare me, or even amuse me in any way

Puffin 30-08-2004 10:55 PM

OMG The house on the haunted hill... I was ALONE in a DARK room in the MIDDLE of the night.... I freaked out!!! I got nose-bleedings from excitement!! I'm not joking! It was horrible!!!
But I would like to see it again... i remember it was really good.... :w00t:

FreeFreddy 30-08-2004 10:56 PM

Talking of funny, I never found any of Freddy Krueger's movies to be scary - they're all quite funny sometimes and made in that teenager-style that makes them unserious...
But did you see Stephen King's IT? I for my part liked it, that was probably the only movie that I found to be scary. And, of course, Resident Evil - this one is made professionally, so it scares good enough, too.

Havell 30-08-2004 11:01 PM

I enjoyed House on the Haunted Hill, though I only saw bits of it, would love to see it again, it's the kind of film that made me double check that my door was locked and sleep with the light on.
I think that horror is kind of film that is hardest to make, harder than comedy as everyone has different things that they are scared of, for example, some people are scared of spiders while I like spiders, some people don't mind the dark while I am terrified. My favourite films include:

the Matrix (Only the first one, the other two were crap)
Con-Air
The Rock
Buffalo Soldiers
Amelie
South Park - Bigger, Longer and Uncut
Pirates Of The Carribian
Master And Commander
Monty Python and the search for the holy grail (hilariously funny)
Indiana Jones and the last crusade
Star Wars (First 3 only)
Austin Powers (All three)
Sleepy Hollow
I know what you did last summer (actually scared me for a bit)
The Shining (some of my friends thought this was to slow but I enjoyed every second of this film)

This list will be added to.

Stroggy 30-08-2004 11:11 PM

Sleepy Hollow by Tim Burton?
I like almost all of Tim Burton's movies
no matter what theme, he adds this special touch to the movies which makes it magic.
Plus, where theres Tim Burton there's Danny Elfman.

Puffin 30-08-2004 11:19 PM

My dad just bought Master and Commander on DVD... and Dancer with Wolves... Master and Commander is great, but I havent seen the Wolves....
I'll watch it when I have time....

Ioncannon 31-08-2004 01:16 AM

Speakin of Resident Evil... RE 2 Apocolyps is gonna be a hell of a funy movie.... why? cause it was filmed in Toronto canada (like 10 min drive to get downtown from my place). Racoon City.. its basicly Toronto without the CN Tower and skydome.... lol and theve got city hall as the main setting lol.

A movie I really wanna seee is the Silent Hill movie they are makin (it was annonced like half a year ago.

revgb 31-08-2004 09:31 AM

The_EgAt 03-09-2004 05:28 PM

Is this a thread where you name your favorite movie?

If it is: One of my most favorite movies must be "The Matrix"... I've seen it WAY to many times...

If it isn't: Just ignore this post and continue doing whatever you were doing before.

Tom Henrik 03-09-2004 05:45 PM

I don't understand why you can bring up Tim Burton and NOT mention A nightmare before christmas! :w00t:

Havell 03-09-2004 05:48 PM

I want to see that film soooo badly, I I got the chance when I was about 8 but I decided to see The Lion King instead (for the second time). I now badly regret that mistake. I've Beetlejuice and Sleepy hollow many times but I've missed out on most of his children's films.

Indie 05-09-2004 02:43 PM

I have lots of favourites, but I don't think anything beats the LOTR triology... Although I also LOVE BR (Battle Royale), Pirates of the Caribbean, Armageddon and Bowling for columbine:) There's probably lots I've forgotten to mention too..

Kosta 05-09-2004 03:29 PM

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned Shawshank Redemption or Silence of the Lambs.... those two are definitely classics

One of my favourite strange movies.
I remember when i first saw it.
it was just after midnight.
Me and my brother went over all the channels one last time to check if there was anything on.
Suddenly we see a new movie begin... the nightmare before christmas.
It has songs
it has weird characters in claymation
it has a downright silly story
It was a stroke of brilliance.

I think Danny Elfman did the voice of Jack during the songs but i'm not sure.

last year i had to write a huge work for my exam on silence of the lambs.
every aspect of the movie.
and compare it to the book.

I saw the movie again and again and again and now that I know all the texts by heart I can't stand it anymore.

Kiddiarni 05-09-2004 04:43 PM

to update my list..
It's Not in order of how well i like 'em

Bowling for Columbine
Fahrenheit 9/11
Supersize Me
Shawsank Redemtion
LotR:FoR and RotK
Matrix 1 (only the first one)
and Bruce allmighty is good :D

The Niles 05-09-2004 05:16 PM

Bruce Allmighty was such a let down. I thought it would be good but it after seeing it I was dissapointed. Bad build up and lose ends and only a few hilarious moments.

Kiddiarni 05-09-2004 05:43 PM

those hilarious moments are Hilareous :D

LoL...When is making the soup go like the Red sea...LoL

I agree.
well actually I didn't find anything all that hillarious.
Just "hah"-funny

FreeFreddy 05-09-2004 06:17 PM

Well, I call movies with such comedy "monkey-comedy", no offense. ;) :D
I don't like those movies, also. The comedies of the 80es are better, with their faint up to big humour which is always really funny too. At most such movies I can laugh for quite some time on good scenes. B)

The Niles 05-09-2004 06:35 PM

I am not a fan of Jim Carrey either but I do have both Ace Ventura filmes on DVD.

Stroggy 05-09-2004 07:03 PM

The Ace Ventura movies were better than Bruce Allmighty.
But the jokes became tiresome after a while... but they were still more enjoyable

Puffin 05-09-2004 08:22 PM

School of Rock is awesome!!!! The music there is just brilliant....

Havell 05-09-2004 08:43 PM

I saw School of Rock in German so i could barely understand a word but it was still one of the funniest films I had ever seen!
I just got back from seeing Dogdeball it was brilliantly funny I would advise anyone to see it, it's not clever, it's not complex, it has no inner meanings, but if you want one and a half hours of constant laughter, see this film.
