Awesome update. Good job on it :ok:
|
I couldn't get it to work.
When I run the program with "run in 256 colours" select under compatibility, the program changes my windows default colours, and an error message appears. ('program encountered an error and has to close'). NB: I'm using XP on a laptop that doesn't have a 256 colours setting in the display properties tab. |
I'm using a laptop without the 256 color option in the display settings, too. I just changed the compatability in the properties dialogue box and everything works fine.
But I see you've changed that and it didn't work for you. what about changing the compatability to Win98 or 95 - available in the same tab. This might help. You could also experiment with ticking in the 'run at 640x480 resolution' box. Is your laptop an older model? Mine is fairly new, so perhaps it doesn't need as much tweaking. |
Hey, I downloaded this game yesterday and started playing and am having alot of fun. However, this is the first time I have ever played a settlers and I was wondering if anyone knows why my miners won't mine even when they have food and tools. If any of u guys know where I could find an explanation of the game's units and stuff online that would work too. -Thanks

Are you sure this game is Entombed?
|
I got back to playing this game a few weeks back but got stuck on the moon puzzle... can't figure which part of the wave to click to activate the corresponding note after I heard the sequence...
|
Is this the puzzle with 7 clickable sea sections and then a 'shore' on the right side and a clickable cloud at the top to activate the puzzle?
If so then what I did was ignore the musical notes and watch for the lighting sequence that occurs on the 'shore'. If you consider the 'shore' to be numbered in this order: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 then the coresponding sea numbering is: 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 You can view the sequence 3 times before it changes. I just got some paper and recorded the sequence. |
Does anyone no how to disarm the lightning door which divides the star room from the big chamber room?
Thanks, Some Dude |

The following solution to a puzzle was included in the (excellent) review Wendy provided, but has been moved to here in case people didn't want to see it in the review.
*** SPOILER - SELECT TO READ *** I'm going to reveal the easiest trap puzzle right here: this one has a swirly horizontal line on the bottom left hand side that leads to a black circle on the right. Above the circle is a circular path, and above that is one corner of a square. (You can see a diagram of this puzzle in the 4th screenshot from the top.) To solve this puzzle (every second time you scroll through) simply click the swirly line symbol first. It appears on the third row and represents a river. Then cliick on the circle, and then on a walking stick which is on the top row of symbols, then click the walking stick (facing the opposite direction) which is on the bottom row. Finally, click on the matching square corner symbol also on the bottom row. *** SPOILER ENDS *** |
Hm. I tried to download this, but can't get past the extraction stage. I get an error msg: file skipped unknown compression method. Then it freezes. Any ideas?
Thanks. |
Try Total Commander. :bye:
|
Same problem i can't extract it i used winrar winace and the winxp built in zip archiver :help:

Do not use XP's built-in unpacker. Use WinRar, sure, BUT do not use context menu to extract the archive content. Open the file using WinRar and THEN extract its content. This is a little bug in WinRar, that causes the program to use the basic run-of-the-mill ZIP decompression method when ran from context menu. This ZIP here is a tad different.
|
when i extract the game and run emtombed.exe it reports of a missing file shell.dlll and the game cant be run
help ? |
Redownload.

Does someone know how to get past that electric door? It's as soon as you've solved the star lock puzzle.
|
Nevermind, I've found out.
SomeDude, you cannot DISARM it, however you can get past it: First, go back to the starting room (one with the morning puzzle) and search for a rock. Once you find it, go back to that lightning room entrance and throw a rock there, you will see that there are actually three rays of electricity flashing on and off. Wait until there's not a single ray of electricity on the screen, and run through. But do it quickly, then. ;) |
I got to the end of the game and it mentioned a second one, but i can't find it anywhere! does anyone have any info on it? was it even ever made?

entombed
Hi there,
I can't seem to get this game to work.. I remember playing it years ago on my old computer and enjoying it but I have downloaded it twice now and just can't get it to work either in dos box or windows xp. There doesn't seem to be a readme file. Can any kind and clever person give me some help....SAL |
well, try telling us what exactly have you tried doing and what exactly was the result, error messages, anything. we can't see into your computer
|
Properties->Compatibility. IIRC, you need it set to Windows 95, 640x480 resolution and 256 colors.
There might be a neccesity of manually lowering your Desktop resolution to 640x480, but not sure about that - it's been a while since I last played the game. |
pshh, i was going to make him read the error out to let him realise how obvious it was

:DThank you Fifth Horseman.....You were right!! It did have to do with properties and compatibility and the 256 colours. My son and I went over the whole installation again and hurrah SUCCESS...You rock!!!! tahnks again SAL

Hello again,
Iam really enjoying this game it really is as good as I remembered....however I am going around and around in the maze now and can't seem to get out of it..can anyone give me a clue? I think I have been to most parts of the maze but can't seem to get to the bit that leads to the next level...Any tips very much appreciated..thanks SAL:) |

:wondering:Help! I am still in the maze..Is anybody out there..SAL
|
I think I've read somewhere that the maze randomizes layout every time.
Just pick one side and hug the wall on that side on every crossroads. You'll find the exit eventually. |

Heyho everyone,
I tried to start the game, but it does not work in 64bit- Windows7. A referring error-message occurs. Different settings in compatibility-mode (Win XP, 256 colors) had no effect. So does anybody have an idea how to run "Entombed" with this system? Thanks and good night. deep |

Dosbox 0.74+Win3.x
What does it mean? Dosbox I have got, but it says: "program requires MS Windows" and how should I downgrade my System to Win3.x or what is meant? Thank you for help. deep |
Quote:
-> you run win3.x within dosbox 0.74 -> you run the game in Win3 that runs in dosbox. Some nice help from Fifth: http://www.abandonia.com/vbullet/showthread.php?t=27770 Please, PLEASE read the instructions how to proceed. |
Thank you for that, but still...
Win 3.11 runs fine, but when starting entombed.exe another error-message occurs saying: "Not enough memory to start the specified program. Close one or more applications." Since there are no other applications open and I do not know what kind of memory it needs, I got stuck again. Does it matter keeping the whole entombed-directory on an USB-stick? Thanks a lot. deep |
Increase the memory setting in dosbox.conf .
