I just heard it on the news. North African coast has over 1 metre of snow, at least 18 people died because of the extremely low tempereatures there and there was snow even in the Sahara desert.

Now that's cold!

Wow, I actually had a conversation with my friend about how people would react to snow in Sahara, and he didn't believe me when I said that it actually did sbow a few years ago, and today I guess, do you have a news link so I can make him believe me?
It's snowing here too (not a rarity do).

SixApes 29-01-2005 10:57 PM

I live in Michigan, its cold for 6 months of the year here too. Brrrrrr.... *shivers*

Puffin 29-01-2005 11:24 PM

We don't have snow in Iceland now. We had snow for couple of weeks now in January, though. Then it started heating up, and raining, and everything was icy. Freaky.

Now it's about 10°c, but rains a lot..

Pharaoh 29-01-2005 11:29 PM

I live in BRAZIL, but here is hot.... Only in my estate (Rio Grande do Sul),
is much cold, but not like CANADA or ENGLAND.

I can't beleive that now in ICEland there isn't snow but in canada u have to stay half an hour clearing the snow from ur car

xoopx 29-01-2005 11:32 PM

the sahara is on quite a delicate balance between lush fertile land and a desert. it flip-flops between the two over a very long time

I live in Valleyfield and that's practically next to Montréal. Don't beleive him, I am not even sure we got -30 celcius this year, and a winter without -30 is not a true winter :P. I have nothing else to say, this year Winter was pretty warm. Not that much snow either... Pretty under average if you ask me.

xcom freak 29-01-2005 11:34 PM

We have snow here right now. But yeah, agreed, the weather is behaving strangely for some years now.

well you know what that means... time to balance everything out with nuclear winter (futurama joke)

Sebatianos 30-01-2005 11:10 AM

Now you got me scared Stroggy. You talikng about a nuclear winter and that avatar of yours...

Just wait until I get to a mine shaft. I just hope there's no minde shaft gap between the superpowers (a Dr. Strangelove joke).

EDIT: Here you go Tulac - it's in Slovene, but I guess you should understand Snow in Sahara. Just look at the paragraph under the pictures and links.

FreeFreddy 30-01-2005 12:14 PM

Well, didn't I say earlier that soon there're some big things ahead?

Puffin 30-01-2005 12:17 PM

Well, we've known for a long time that the climate is changing, because of the ozone. Nothing new there.. It's just happening much faster now than ever before.
But I really doubt that the world will end in the next hundreds (thousands) of years, so I don't think we should worry about our arses..

FreeFreddy 30-01-2005 12:21 PM

The world won't end. We people will end. We're just insects crawling on earth, compared in dimensions, and we went too far with ruining the planet we live on. So we (probably) will be washed away from the face of the planet. Our fault, anyway.

Well, we've known for a long time that the climate is changing, because of the ozone.
Ozone hasn't got much to do with the global warming since it's recoverig now...
The problem is with the CO2 in the atmosphere, which may be caused by us humans. But there are (serious) scientists, that say that earth is nearest to the sun in 100,000 years, and that this is a cyclic hapenning, it hapens every 100,000, I'm not saying that we haven't ruined much of our ecosystem, but the global warming might be cause by earth's travel around the sun, Earth's path around the sun is widening and shrinking in 100,000(around) year cycles. And the earth being a bit closer to the sun might be the cause of so much CO2 in the air.Just think about it, the biggest(CO2) pollution(produced by humans) in the world was in 70's and 80's, but today there is even more CO2 in the atmosphere even though we pollute less.
What I'm saying might be wrong, and yes we have destroyed our planet in many other ways, but the problem is that if anyone says anything against the global warming, he is a conspirator.

Puffin 30-01-2005 12:54 PM

But if the ozone was better, like it should be, then it could protect us better, from the rays of sun.

Blackened is the end
Winter it will send
Throwing all you see
Into obscurity
Death of mother earth
Never a rebirth
Evolution's end
Never will it mend
Never

Fire
to begin whipping dance of the dead
Blackened is the end
to begin whipping dance of the dead
Color our world blackened

Bustering of earth
Terminate its worth
Deadly nicotine
Kills what might have been
Callous frigid chill
Nothing left to kill
Never seen before
Nreathing nevermore
Never

Fire
to begin whipping dance of the dead
Blackened is the end
to begin whipping dance of the dead
Color our world blackened
Blackened

Opposition...Contradiction...Premonition...Comprom ise
Agitation...Violation...Mutilation...Planet dies
Darkest color
Blistered earth
True death of life
Termination...Expiration...Cancellation...Human race
Expectation...Liberation...Population...Lay to waste
See our mother
Put to death
See our mother die

Smouldering decay
Take her breath away
Millions of our years
In minutes disappears
Darkening in vain
Decadence remains
All is said and done
Never is the sun
Never

Fire
to begin whipping dance of the dead
Blackened is the end
to begin whipping dance of the dead
Fire
is the outcome of hypocrisy
Darkest potency
In the exit of humanity
Color our world blackened
Blackened

This mean "with wind effect" and translate as such: we simply added a bunch of stupid factors like wind, humidity and such weird things which were not added when you were young only in a feeble attempt to scare you off and make you think it's colder outside when, in fact, it's only around -25.

I am pretty sure this is completely wrong. How could the ozone get better if we throw more and more gaz at it every year?

wormpaul 30-01-2005 03:51 PM

Was that a song of metallica

Now that's right attitude! :ok:
Anyway, as far as I heard, the hole doesn't become smaller. It becomes even larger every year.

wormpaul 30-01-2005 04:41 PM

"kill them all"

First album Metallica..

Nothing to do with the Worm(paul)

Unknown Hero 30-01-2005 05:28 PM

Metallica is good, but there are few better bands!

BTW Snow in Sahara? LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

BTW2 I think that hole on ozone is even bigger everyday. Also I think that there's the biggest amount of CO2 in the air.
