Spam ads and site rollback to March 18th

While trying to fix the spam ads, the hosting company has reverted Abandonia to a backup taken on March 18th (as you've probably noticed, that didn't help, but I've since found the cause and informed them how to fix it).
Some forum posts may have been lost in the process, I apologize for the inconvenience.

If it will stop popups almost every click then I can manage to remove my (not so many) posts about that. :smile2:

Ah, here I thought I may have upset the staff for mentioning that the site was infected/infested with malicious ads.

Good to see there's an effort in fixing this.

It hasn't, unfortunately. It seems the source of those has been injected into the site much earlier than that.
However, late on Friday I've identified what appears to be the source of the problem and notified the owners of the details. It should be a quick fix once they read my mail and forward it to their admin.

Tuesday already. No fix yet. :/

At this point, I'm not going to hold my breath. It was fun while it lasted.

I was entering here for playng daily quiz for the most time.

It's time to finish that.

However I will remember about abandonia everytime if I would like to play some DOS game that I don't have already on my HDD. :)

I'm not saying that things have gotten out of hand, but literally every single click on this site now opens up a new tab with an ad. I left my browser open to this site for the past hour. Ad-Blocker has recorded 1,000 items blocked without me clicking anything. I've been playing the daily quiz here for over a decade, but I think its time to call it quits.

Smiling Spectre 03-05-2022 12:33 PM

Strange. I use only embedded Opera adblock, and it blocks, well, everything. I hit one redirect on the entering the page, close it, and after that page works as intended.

Nothing too "normal" in it, of course. :(

Friendly reminder: eXoDOS is a cosy place to be. ;)

This is getting quite badly annoying...

The fix is so simple... remove that one last line of obfuscated malware code from drupal.js. Surely they could do this easily.

kemo 18-05-2022 10:29 PM

I wouldn't count on it. I would imagine that as long as this site is making money, it doesn't matter. And if it stops bringing in money, shut it down and call it a wrap.

Kippesoep 18-05-2022 10:42 PM

It seems to be more of a case of "they won't" rather than "they can't". But still, this kind of malware doesn't seem like it will actually bring in revenue for Abovo. Detract from it, in fact. I wish they'd hand over the site to people who actually care about it.

Smiling Spectre 27-05-2022 05:14 AM

It's always darkest before a sunrise. (c)

I mean, yesterday Abandonia wasn't functioning at all, sending me to Chinese spam or into nowhere. Today it's up and working, and spam is cured! Miracles of modern medicine, it seems.

Kippesoep 28-05-2022 02:12 AM

Yeah, finally it's gone. They did indeed remove that single line :)

I don't know what you are experiencing, but I am still experiencing the pop-ups and redirects... it actually seems worse than ever for me. The pop-ups/new tabs that I'm getting are appearing to be offering malware/viruses (one example telling me to update flash... flash is dead).

Attached is another example. This place is still infected.

It seems okay now. Try holding Shift and reloading the site, which should force it to reload the script, rather than use the previous malware-infested script that might be in your cache.

That's bizarre. It didn't work the first 2 attempts, but 3rd was the charm. Thanks. :OK:

Kippesoep 03-06-2022 11:08 PM

Aaaaand it's back. The drupal.js script is infected yet again.

kemo 04-06-2022 07:05 PM

Can confirm... I'm having the issues as well.

kemo 29-06-2022 11:35 PM

So, is the issue back yet again, or has Abovo initiated a new way to have ads pop-up for ads even with ad & script blocking enabled? I get Youtube windows/tabs opening now (looks like the popup starts with dusyguri and then redirects).

Smiling Spectre 30-06-2022 04:58 PM

My bet is "back again". But I didn't experience it yet.

kemo 24-09-2022 01:38 AM

It looks like it is progressively getting worse. Even with my ad blocker and script blocker, it's still trying to throw up new browsing sessions. It's a shame they don't care.

chris_doom_k. 03-10-2022 12:04 AM

Unfortunately, the site has gone downhill these last few years. It doesn't deserve what the admins have let it become.

Nightmare 29-11-2022 02:05 AM

Thanks!

Thank you for fixing the site.

Smiling Spectre 02-12-2022 02:13 PM

It isn't _too_ fixed actually. And Studentis mostly restored the backup. Well, at least forums are alive for a time.
