What paths did you take when creating your char and what skills do you have now tho? Cause I really hope you're not investing into Psi.

Sorry, dear Japo, maybe first will be SS2.
Many games were played this way:
Doom2, Dune2, Wiz7, Daggerfall and more

You never read or listen to anything in any game, so it won't matter XD

By the way now that I think about it, in these games (maybe more so in SS1) you would absolutely need to read/listen to the logs to progress in the game. You can ask here what to do at every step, but it will take you forever, if you do get answers for everything...

Smiling Spectre 25-06-2013 06:48 PM

Main problem in SS1 was to get security code. You know, the last one, that is re-generates each second with computer cores? Only part where I needed walkthru. And feel stupid about myself afterwards: I had at least 2 records about that! :(

Scatty 25-06-2013 08:17 PM

Both System Shock games are also one of those where it pays off to read through the manuals, to know what to do in the game and how.
Of course, one would have to actually buy the game(s) for that :whistling: Or find a place to download the PDF manual. Or just go through the slow and painful learning curve and asking for advise. But then, asking others and waiting for help isn't much different from reading a manual...

Japo 25-06-2013 08:39 PM

I wouldn't say reading the manual is necessary in any way... SS2 has a long detailed tutorial. SS1 starts with tutorial callouts on every element of the interface and a couple of event explanations, which is more than most games at that time. You can start playing right away and you know how to do everything. I never read any of both manuals. And I think I tend to read more manuals than most gamers, at least for strategy games and simulators.

But yeah, playing through such story-driven games without paying attention... To each his own, I guess. Myself, I actually think both games wouldn't be that great if you took the great story out of them (and for me, SS2 owes a lot of the merit of its story to its connection to SS1). As shooters/rpg they're far from perfect. SS1 is very technically advanced for its time, and ambitious, but for that reason the controls/interface are overcomplicated bordering on unplayable. Equally, the cyberspace is an extremely cool idea, but I had to set its difficulty to easy (leaving the rest at normal) to avoid becoming frustrated. SS2 could be much, much better as a shooter, specially at the time it was made.

First of all i need advise for some tech problem:
- I play SS2 in full screen.
- I use hybrid 26" Neo monitor, which switches between PC and TV modes by remote device. Resolution 1280x768. Change possible.
- The problem is that i loose 6-8 mm above from my SS2 screen and i am unable to read messages above. Am i clear?
So i take some stuff and then use sign ? to know what is this.
This problem borns another one: My screen ( No SS2 screen) has tendency to move 20 mm left and 10 mm North which confused me. The second one problem disappeared when close SS2.

..
Deck 1. Engineering
Reset Main Power to Engine core to restart elevators.

I will answer all Yr Q but what do You think bout the following:
-There are some stuff - MFD Game player and Swinekeeper?
What is this? Joke or real element of the SS2?
Once again- I do not read WT.
This fact will explain some mistakes in the my gaming.

@Tomekk
If my memory serves me well:
Hmmm...when i meet again Psi center will use my Cyber modules.

First - in right corridor.
Second - in middle one.
Third - in left one - UNN

@Japo
I will agree with You the SS controls/interface are overcomplicated.

O, i read logs and notes. Otherwise i will duno what to do.

@Master
the slow and painful learning curve and asking for advise
No, i will do everything to minimize any Q further..

Pls note i do not ask You:
Where, the hell is this Silver key, or where can buy good machine gun or AK-47.
My routine Q is well known:
Who or what is the final boss and is some stuff which is fatal to meet the boss?
Many times You, Master, do not answer me but this is not tragedy for brave Ilia Murometz aka yoga..
:smile2:

OFF
PS: This is my 78-th game.
Yesterday i saw that i still keep the Doom 3 disk so...
But CIV 5 waits me,
then Wiz 8 and then
Lands of Lore 2
Quake 2
Star craft 2
The witcher

My target for this year is to reach at least 100 games. But i wanna play nice games only
but Russians said:
- По вкус и по цвет, товарищи нет:3:

I wish You good luck in Yr gaming.

1280x768 is a 16:9 aspect ratio. Maybe a problem for the monitor. Try 1280x800 (16:10) and see if that helps. If not, try 1280x1024 (4:3) if your monitor supports it.

That's an old wink from System Shock 1. Hard to explain, kind of an in-game joke from the programmers, about gaming. But lots of fun (and frustration) to play. There're also some more game modules to find later.

Well, can't take all the fun away from trying out for yourself, can I? :p

Tomekk 26-06-2013 11:01 AM

I'm just going to link this again in the vain hope that you'll actually bother reading it http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/185706-sy...k-2/faqs/14415

Yes, YOU can.
:3:

I tried the resolution modes from Video of SS2

640x480x32
720x480x32
720x576x32
800x600x32
1024x768x32
1152x480x32

1280x720x32 /16:9
1880x768x32 /15:9

1280x960x32
1280x1024x32

1360x1024x32 /16:9

No result. But this is no fatal.
I find the bold mode is the best for me.

No complain, no Q:
I have problem when run through the radiation zones.
But i will search the solution.

Scatty 27-06-2013 09:20 AM

You can either carry Anti-Radiation Hypos (many of them) around with you to inject to lessen, while in radiation zones, and remove radiation damage when out of them, though they are rather scarce and you'll run out of them soon.
Or you find a BioHazard Sut which absorbs 75% of radiation so you'd either need only 1-2 hypos after getting out of radiation or a high enough Endurance + suit to avoid damage altogether. You'll find your first hazard suit on the Engineering Deck, which is your next step anyway.
