This is great. I played this game 10 years ago and it's always bugged me because I never finished it.

My friend who owned it moved away and took his copy with him. A few years ago I picked up the CD version of the game and was thrilled. It came with the diary and everything. Problem was I couldn't get it to play on my XP computer.

I'm not very computer savy but I was able to get it to finally play but the sound was all choppy. There was no way I was gonna play the game like that or without sound. The music is a huge part of the atmosphere!

I just downloaded dosbox and the game from this site. I've followed the dosbox tutorial which was great by the way. And I got the game to work with sound.

My only question is does the downloaded version here have spoken dialogue? I'm not hearing it and I really want that part of the experience too. I know I'm being picky.

I do have the CD version myself. Can I put this on my C drive and then use dosbox with it and then the dialogue will work?

OK I just used dosbox with my CD. The music and dialogue are both working now!

2 quick questions. Does the downloaded version on this site have the dialogue?

Secondly, the dialogue I have working on the CD causes the background music to get a little static(y) (I know that's not a word) Can I improve my sound? Or is this what the game is supposed to sound like?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Try making an ISO (or BIN) image of your CD and then mount that image in DosBox using IMGMOUNT. This helped me a few times when I had this sort of issues.

Thanks I'll do that.

Any suggestion as to what software I should use to create the ISO? Is there good free stuff out there?

I've never done this.

There is a bunch of programs for that, though not sure which ones are freeware and which are not. ;)

i never expected this game's forum thread to be alive!
ok quick request, can someone upload an iso of the full speech pc version using a website or torrent?
i know this isn't legal but i cant find a version to buy anywhere i thought i'd give it a shot

Actually, as the game is Abandonware, I see no problem with anyone doing just that.

In fact, someone just did that in another part of the forums.

The link is here.

I know it's been said many a time already, but it's just a marvellous game! I played it to the end two or three times and used saved games to replay some episodes, esp. the ending tens of times. I can not
recall another game that has such a strong atmosphere, the atmosphere of depression, madness, loneliness, mystics, violence and... doom. The game is not perfect and it's somewhat short, though
one doesn't usually notice that when playing for the first time, but it is partly to that incompleteness that we begin to imagine how one could extend the plot and the game's world doesn't come out of your mind. Were it a full and complete story in every way and it wouldn't be that great. That often is the case with good games or movies. For example, I've seen an anime lately, called Battle Angel Alita, it also it very short and the plot is developing at a fast pace just like in DreamWeb, and it was wonderful. So the point I'm trying to make is pretty simple: when you've had not enough of smth, you keep thinking of it,
you want it so very much, you love it. And it is especially addictive for those of us who would like to be in the main character's place. As for the tech part, there are a few bugs (as mentioned somewhere above) when you get stuck if you don't get some item in time - the crystal from the dreamweb is a fine
example, once you left without it, you can't go back (but i think you can get killed w/o it, so there's still an ending), but AFAIR there are some issues when you just can't do anything (I think I've also had that
bug with Eden's diary). Pity I found the Diary of a Madman and read it only after I'd finished the game twice. Excellent game, an unfogettable experience!

p.s. thanks for the link about the Seven Sleepers!

OT: Maybe, but it so happens that the anime includes only the volume 1 and 2 of the original manga... which has 9 in total... and all at quite similarily fast pace.
