It seems you are trying to run the game in plain Windows. I strongly suggest you use DosBox instead.
You can download it here.

You might want to check out the official DosBox FAQ, and particularly this part of it. It is quite helpful for users unfamiliar with DosBox.

Hey, does anybody else think that ranged weapons are almost entirely useless? Not that I've really tried to use them, but it seems that there's no place where the bad guys are so far away that they can't reach you quickly, and then you'll have to faff about changing weapons. Plus loads of them have their own ranged weapons, so you either want to close the distance or wait around a corner for them to come. And finally.. if you really want to get them from a distance, spells will do it. That's my case and I'm sticking to it.

Also, is there are a list anywhere of the weapons in the game and how good they are? My inventory's always half full of weapons just because I never know if I'll have an urgent need for an axe called 'emasculator' or something. And what is the deal with that Orc boss's axe early in the game? It sells for more than most weapons, but doesn't seem to do that good in a fight...

Well, one of the problems with ranged weapons is that good ones don't appear until late in the game. Early on, the bow you can buy from Buck is quite nice (it would be comparable with a weapon of 20 might). But for your characters, it appears to be very difficult to hit targets. Also, there doesn't appear to be benefit for characters with big strength (Conrad, Michael) and the damage appears to be less than it should be, as well. This was probably meant to balance things out, but now they are indeed a bit obsolete.

However, the damage of a good crossbow or arbalest can still be quite impressive. Also, keep in mind that most ranged attacks of monsters are laughable as well (with just a few exceptions), so there's no harm in going in a ranged fight with them if you can't take the heat.

About that axe, it was meant to have an effect that instantly kills enemies 10% (not sure about exact chance) of each time you damage a monster with it, but it doesn't appear to work or it was removed from the weapon, probably the latter. Check out this site if you want information about weapons. I can't seem to load the tabels anymore though, but maybe you can: http://www.angelfire.com/darkside/la...re/1stats.html

Good luck!

The ranged weapons, especially the crossbow Valkyrie, are nice to increase the rogue levels though. Once in castle Cimmeria, there's a chest on the second level that'll require rogue level of 7 or higher to pick, so you'll need one character that has either all 7 levels or 5 levels + jade necklace + battle axe Master.
As for the link above, this one is better as it's the same but loads properly - www.employees.org/~pwilson/lands/wep.html (seems I can't insert a proper link here :tai:)

I've found the right link: http://ethereallore.envy.nu/1stats.html :max:

Useful stuff.. although I've finished it now. Ding dong, the witch is dead etc. Luckily I kept one crossbow, as at least one essential door/chest in the castle couldn't be unlocked until I had a level 4 rogue. Cue spending ages running away from bad guys trying to shoot them with the damn thing...

I'm really early in the game and I'm confused. After beating rolands manor my walkthrough says I should buy the bow from bucks skins. Howver, this leaves me with 104 gold and I need 100 per person to return on ferry.
I assume it will cost me 200 to come back to buy bow and another 200 to come back again later. Thats a lot of gold right now. Did I make a mistake by buying the longsoword for 125 G earlier? It seems to be a waste to sell the bow back for 100 G to return just to spend another 400 later to come back and return. At least(thank god) you can sell items back at the same amount it costs to buy. I'm sure this seems paltry long term, but gold is tight right now, and I really want that bow both to increase rogue skill and have ranged attack.

You'll need the 200 gold only once to travel back to Gladstone, since you won't return to this part of the game anymore. You can leave the bow be as well, it's not as good as other ranged weapons you'll find later in the game. There'll be also throwing stars soon in the draracle cave for you to level the rogue skill.

You're looking in the wrong manual. Try page 5 ( http://www.abandonia.com/forum/index.php?s...=4574&st=60 ) for the words you're looking for. :max:
