It's probably old news already, but for those who have the classic System Shock 2 on CD or aren't considering getting it from GOG (Steam version works with it, too), all you need to get it to run on modern machines and operating systems like Windows 7/8, is SS2Tool 5.1 (and installing the last official patch 2.3 before that).

There came out an unofficial (and relatively mysterious) patch 2.4 (called NewDark) for System Shock 2 and Thief 2 in mid-fall 2012, which modified parts of the engine and enabled support for all modern resolutions (widescreen, 32bit colors, running on DirectX 9 instead of DirectX 6 as originally etc.), all new graphic cards, EAX sound for any sound card through the open-platform API OpenAL, and ability to run like a charm on current hardware.
The GOG release of SS2 seems also to at least partially rely on, or include, this unofficial patch, and SS2Tool also includes the latest updated version (with few "new" bugs fixed) of it. SS2Tool is essentially the better installation program for SS2, even with a Blood patch and language text corrections for German versions.

There. With the new unofficial patch supposedly you can play any version of System Shock 2 on XP, Vista and newer. GoG version uses the same unofficial patch anyway.

Bravo! Nice!

Maybe this famous LEGEND map will wait till i start SS2.
I may use 2 XP Pro:
1 - normal
2 - virtual

I need some rest of RPG as You noted, Master.
One is tired to drink every day ambrosia.
Some good Russian vodka will help anyway.
Stolichnaya for example.
True, Master?

Initial preparation:
Get the game.
Install it.
Play the tutorial.
Maybe read this: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/185706-sy...k-2/faqs/14415
:p

The game starts with a training/tutorial, so you don't need any preparation really.

But during the game you have to make some development decisions, such as which weapon skill to upgrade, when to upgrade attributes, psychich powers (equivalent to magic), etc. Of course you can complete the game with any choice, even if there are some choices better than others. Anyway if you want to know some of this stuff more in advance than the game intended, this link for example can help you (see the menu at the top left):

http://shrines.rpgclassics.com/pc/sy.../weapons.shtml

By the way that's good website, in case you didn't know it. It has all the information on hundreds of RPGs for PC and consoles.

This game has maps of its own during play--although they're too small at high resolutions.

You can't take screenshots with Ctrl+F5 because this game isn't for DOS--it won't work in DOSBox.

Here's a tip: don't take exotic weapon skills. They suck.
