I just started playing BG2 again. Still not very far. But why can't I save or rest at certain times in the game?

Or talk to certain people sometimes?

What happens when you try to talk to people? Do you get the message that they're busy? If so, and you're running XP, that's a known bug. It's solved by applying Bioware's latest game patch.

I don't know what to make of the no-save problem. I've never encountered that.

Yes I am using XP, and it does say they are busy. I hope this patch ain't too big.

Could the no saving and no resting thing be caused by the same problem?

It's possible--as I said, I never encountered it. The best way to tell is to download the patch, which you need anyway to get around the other bug.

I would also suggest checking out the Baldurdash site, where there are many fine bugfixes and tweaks for BG2. These should be loaded in after the Bioware patches.

Well just downloaded and installed the patch, but to make sure it works I would have to play it for a while to make sure it doesn't happen again. And so I thank you for your help in advance. :ok:

No problem. Check the BG2 forums on GameBanshee if you have any really in depth questions. They're well-attended, and many of the BG2 modding communities regularly post there, too.

When I first went to that site, I thought: "Finally, I know what the metallic pants are for!"

As a general guideline, always, always, ALWAYS check to see if a patch is available for a game before you play it. Any game, no matter how old or new.

I couldn't agree more. I've held off playing Rome: TW for just that reason. I'm not going to be a betatester for the development team, who blandly state that they're waiting on a patch until they get loads of feedback covering all the problems nobody bothered to detect earlier. I'll just run it when the patch finally arrives.
