Is that something like Californian punk?

Iron_Scarecrow 02-01-2006 11:32 AM

Uh I don't know what that is.

They're American I know that much.

Californian punk = Green Day, Offspring, NoFX and many emo bands...

I bought Good News for People Who Love Bad News the other week, and it's absolutely amazing - I've been listening to it a lot ever since. It's like upbeat electronica, which makes a pleasant change :D

I keep meaning to listen to In the Airplane Over the Sea (or whatever that Neutral Milk Hotel album's called) - a friend copied it for me about 18 months ago or something and I've not actually listened to it yet :s
Quite a big fan of At The Drive-In too, got all their albums (Relationship of Command is easily the best, but I rather like in/CASINO/OUT too). I didn't make much of Sparta, but The Mars Volta rocked my socks. Frances the Mute was a huge disappointment, though, after seeing them live at Leeds fesival a couple of years back.

Oh no they're different. I'm not the best with genre's as I don't really care what genre music is as long as it sounds good. But it's what I would call Melodic Hardcore or perhaps Screamo. Very energetic guitar work and unorganised structures.

Although NoFX aren't emo and neither are the other two. Emo was a decent genre of music (or so I believe as Thrice are considered to be the best example of 90's emo) until Jimmy Eat World took it and *meep*ed it when they went mainstream around the year 2000, after the fall of emo in the 90's.

And I heard Frances The Mute for the first time Last week and found it dissapointing too.

How about "Inkubus Sukkubus"? Maybe not obscure as such, but neither mentioned in media too often (at least to my knowledge).
That's pagan/gothic rock, and altough some of their songs aren't good as such, they still did a number of great ones.
Think kind of like Evanescence, but more sensual and at half that speed.

Frances the Mute sucked, and Comatarium was only decent.

As for "emo" and "screamo", I still say the genres are rules by Cursive and Alexisonfire, respectively. Go listen to Cursives "The Ugly Organ" or "Domestica". Great stuff.

Good News for People Who Love Bad News was great, but I still highly recommend The Moon and Antarctica.

I constantly mistake "Emo" with "Emu" but there really isn't much of a difference now is there?

Me likey Nuetral Milk Hotel!

And a bit less religious, I'd imagine :)

Hope you're right about The Moon and Antarctica - just ordered it.

Well if Alexisonfire is Screamo then A Wilhelm Scream aren't screamo. I'll just call it melodic hardcore. I'm not the biggest fan of Alexisonfire, it can get a little tiresome to listen to, same as Thursday.
