Love to see this game on the site. I wanted to review it myself a long time ago, but haven't... Your review is good. It does show that it's your first one though, so it's more "formal", but it does say all a person needs to know.

About the game - all who play it should really take the time to get used to it. You can't just play it once or twice and before being any good at it give up. It will get under your skin once you get a bit batter at it!

Yup. I like writing formal kind of text, except when it comes to rants, cynical and sarcastic texts (from what Im famous of kind of). Thanks for the comments all ya! (and keep them coming!)

Won't they grant you a wish for reviewing...? ^_^

Man, Great memories come in to my mind... This was first game ever I played in "LAN" with Amiga if I remember correctly.

I remember checking amiga screenshots and they looked more advanced than in DOS version. Im I right?

Youre right. Many games (including Stunt Car Racer) were better on amiga rather than DOS.

A very great game. Now i know, why mum always said: "Take care of your stuff, they're memories." Man... i wish i still have the box and the disc. But now i can play again - and i love it! The driving feeling is so soft and realistic for that time... great!

This is one of my all time favourite racing games. I love the sense of physics it has in the suspension and jumps. It's also a game I've been long hoping for a remake of, to take advantage of the graphics capabilities of today's computers.

It was pretty difficult and I memorized howfast each jump should be approached to get a smooth landing. Some high jumps almost brought a feeling of vertigo :w00t:

Regarding the review I thought it was very good, but there are a few things I disagree with. What computer format was the review of? I had the Amiga version and I felt the graphics was detailed enough to see when the car was taking off and when it would land, as well as when I was grinding on the edge of the track, fighting to get back up there I also remember the damage sounds more like if something cracked rather than beeps. In general I remember the 3d graphics as a lot better than in the screenshots shown here.

Another little bonus of this game was the characters you played against. Not that it made much of a difference during the race, except for how good they were, but I liked the names and the gallery of faces. Too few 'Road Hog' characters in todays racing games ^_^

Good memories

I had this on my Amiga as well, and I remember the graphics to be very nice. It is however, a weird fact that games for both Amiga and PC (dos) pretty much always had better graphics on the Amiga version (fact, according to me so bare with me, ok? :D) The screenshots were definitely not from the Amiga version, and I'd say it's the PC version.

Anyway: SCR is a very nice racing game that is rather different from the average F1s and similar ones. Replay value? I would say that if perfecting the jumps is a goal, then it has a certain replay value.

Sorry about the long post, but IMO the review just didn't give the right impression of the game.

For me, Stunt car racer (scr) is in top 3 for racing games for all times. The other two are Formula one grand prix and Grand prix 2, and I find the 3 points given in the review to be close to blasphemy (English isn't my native language so the word may be wrong but surely you get the idea).

Why does scr beats so many racing games, including Stunts? It is the FEELING of driving, flying. I think this game is a benchmark when it comes to realistic car handling. There may be only 8 tracks, but they are more than enough. Super division with increased car performance gives a nice addition to this.

I find myself playing scr every now and then, much because the game accomplishes two very controversial goals simultaneously: simplicity of handling the vehicle/learning to drive and on the other hand the accurate (or the feeling of) physical performance. Usually one must compromise between the two but not with scr. Sorry for the caps, but I must emphasise: the FEELING of driving in this game is something I haven't really encountered in any other racing game. GP2 and GP3 get close, but hey, they're 5 and 10 years younger, with maybe 100 times larger budget behind them. Also, scr accomplishes the realism with only the four arrow keys, whereas the formula games really need a joystick or a wheel to feel the precision and the realism.

Stunts is a track-making game, with a driving option attached to it. Scr is a racing game. You select control method, choose championship/practice and DRIVE. Enjoyment in 10 seconds.

It is due to the realistic (or maybe it is the "feeling of realism", I can't tell the difference) car handling that I think the game is more a breakthrough in racing games than "just another good racing game". Latter would justify the three points. I'd go with the former one, and would've given five points with no questions asked. And I think maybe 10 games in Abandonia deserve a five. (they are, btw, Colonization, Dune 2, Formula 1 grand prix, NHL hockey, Pinball fantasies (and Day of the tentacle, Monkey island 2, Civilization 2, Princess maker 2 which are unfortunately ESA protected).

(not that I would've played one third of all games in Abandonia though)

I like that it is not very easy for a game to get the 4 or 5 but I really think this was a vast underrating.

You know, there's a section on this forum, where you can do reviews for certain games. Look here (Community Reviews)

Ask an admin if he can move your post there and maybe you can edit it a bit more and elaborate a bit more. :sneaky: :ok:
