i just downloaded this game yesterday and when i tried it the first time it went sluggish just like omuletzu said.. then i tried using dosbox and the game never start.. it just gave me a blank window.. :? after i played other games i just downloaded yesterday i tried ultima 6 again and guess what, it worked just fine.. :D

i wonder why??

The sluggish speed may come out of 2 reasons:
1. It is too slow because it's too fast (yes I know that's funny (what was the word for it again...), but that could be the problem). Here you can get Slowdown for Windows: http://newton.pbk-solutions.de/ncu_nbu/slowdown.htm
2. The sound card settings are wrong, game is trying to get output from sound card which is not there, thus slowing the game down, try playing without sound, when it is faster again, reconfigure sound settings in other way with install.exe

nice.. it's just that i don't understand most of the text at the readme.txt.. :( what language is that anyway? btw, i once downloaded moslo but have't tried it out yet.. any suggestion??

Moslo is good if you use Windows 95/98 and ME I believe. I used to have Windows 95 and was addicted to Moslo Deluxe.. alas I'm not sure where I stuck it in the mass amount of programs I've collected over the 16 years (I'm 21 now) of hoarding my collection of games and stuff.

:D...Note: Not many Americans on this forum is there?

IMPORTANT

The game runs slowly because of your video card.At least this was my case.I changed my video card to S3 8) , and then the game worked perfectly.Too bad it didn't cought my eye

funny, i thought my vidoe card is fine.. i currently use ati radeon 9200 128Mb which definitly fits for almost any games.. i guess it's just the way origin made the games.. i think freefreddy mention it before.. about the memory usage or something like that..

FreeFreddy 21-06-2004 05:44 AM

That was Mika's mentioning

I don't think it's about the system demand, but rather the memory model that Origin has used to create the game. they have always loved to take software to the limits and so their games have manipulated memory in many a strange way. That is the reason why their games are the hardest to get working on newer systems these days.
you got it right fred.. i was just to lazy to look back at page 1.. :P so, anyway now it seems that ultima 6 runs quite smooth with XP only that it's too fast.. better tried that dosbox or moslo again.. been busy playing black gate and diablo ii at once.. :) not to mention working.. :? phew..

Hmm, It's interesting that you say Dosbox didn't work for you as mine worked with no problems. Have you got the latest dosbox? It's at version 0.61 now. Also you can try playing with dosbox's setting in the dosbox.conf file. There's loads there that you can turn on and off (like you had to turn off ems memory for Ultima 7) so maybe changing something there might help. Also make sure that you run the Ultima 6 install/setup first as this also creates a new character (it asks first) for you.
