Strange... I have Windows XP SP2 and have never encountered any problems, and if I want to disable something in Windows and I don't know how to do it, I just check Microsoft's KB. I don't know what problems you guys are talking about. :P

:titan:  :tai: :butcher: :hairpull: :rifle: :ranting: :sniper:
AAAAAAAaRRRRRRghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! I`ll NEVER install patches again. NEVER! After installing the good old Windows XP, me, with my "brilliant" <_< ideas, also installed some patches (again). Now my windows is like this: go go go go go, stop! go go go go go gogo go go stop! stop! go go go stop! go go go go go go go go go stop! I`m reinstalling the windows again without patches, and if it does the stop thing again, I`m starting with fisicall measures towards my computer, and hopefully the patch-making genious. |
... I always thought 9x was more reliable then XP, honestly. ^_^
|
The only thing about win9x I ever relied on, was that I had to re-install it yet again, not too far into the future. For every crash, for whatever reason, it became more and more unstable. The thing here is that the curve was so steep that after less than say, 10 crashes, it was so unstable that it would never start again -> re-install.
|
....and so, I just finished with my third reinstall in three days, and hopefully to be.......I don`t know - last. <_<
But I have learned a valuable lession  : NEVER EVER USE PATCHES IF YOU HAVE NO PROBLEMS AT ALL WITH YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM!!! :titan: -Just like you guys said. Things are smooth for now, and I`m laying off the experiments for some time. You know how it is - you make mistakes - you learn things. <_< I probably should have posted this topic before I started with the installation of the Service Pack 2, or the patches, but however I think this topic will be usefull to everyone who will read it in the future. :smurf: |
Serive pack2 works fine for me.
|
XP SP2 needs more resources. If your computer is near limit running XP, SP2 will really screw it up. But if you have powerfull computer getting SP2 is probably better, cause it fixes some security leeks.
just stick with win98. :P |
If you really want to know what has been done in service pack 2, check out the article on Microsoft's site called Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.

i was sacred about upgrading to sp2 because of what i heard but when i got my computer upgraded, the people who did it had to do a new install of xp and used an sp2 version and it's working fine for me

I just don't rely on windows any more, Linux all the way for me!
I do most important stuff in Linux now, but I still have XP installed for playing games. That's all I use it for now really. |
