It seems there were several simultaneous technical problems.
The one we were talking about turned out to not be the one that hit the main server.
Tl;DR: the site should be operational, but the server hosting the actual downloads is down for maintenance.

Smiling Spectre 27-03-2014 09:15 AM

Well, I don't need downloads any time soon, so that's great news. Thank you! :)

Do they know anything about the slow loading times? It's been happening at least to me forever, and it makes using the website really bothersome.

I mentioned it to Rafiq when I talked with him about the spam, and he said that would look into it after fixing that, but even that was never really fixed and I didn't hear back.

Maybe we should write a really lovely letter to these guys .... ;)

Thank you to all those working on the problem, I appreciate the trouble you are going to in fixing it!

Thanks to all who are working to bring the site back up.

For me it's always extra features. Facebook and Twitter. Opera can hangs a whole minute asking for "request to twitter.com..." I would gladly block both - but I cannot do it in Opera. I bet, users with more advanced browsers, like chrome and firefox, haven't this issues. :)

It's not that, it's AB's server that has huge delays to respond. This happens also on the /vbullet/ standalone forum pages which have no extra content. I have all this content and ads blocked for the rest of AB but the problem still happens, because it's in AB itself. Twitter and Facebook themselves, and any other website full of their content, work OK for me and anyone else.

The old versions of Opera could block content. The new versions are a Chrome ripoff and you can install any Chrome extension on it. You can find for example Adblock on Opera's web store.

PS: Piece of crap website ate my post again and I had to retype it, ¬¬ second time today.

Hmm, it's the different problem for you then. Abandonia itself have issues sometimes for me, but 90% of my problems are from FB and Twitter (where is Twitter on main page, BTW?). I forced to wait it to load, because screenshot quiz doesn't work right until whole page loaded.
I have old (12.16) Opera here, and while it can block different ads and pictures inside FB band, FB itself is not blockable. Or I don't know how.

Japo 30-03-2014 12:23 PM

Besides blocking by clicking on the webpage, you can click on the "Details..." button (also accessible from Preferences > Blocked Content" where you can edit or create block rules manually, using the wildcard character *

For example in your case you could define "twitter.com/*" etc.
